I so envy you! R. Lee Ermey reminds me so much of my Grandpa Stan (another hard ass Marine) & I look forward to watching, reading, or listening to anything with Mr. Ermey. May he continue to inspire men & women for many years to come.
I hope I get the honour of meeting this great american!!! God bless you R. Lee Ermey!!! You are what America was meant to be. Thank God for you!!! Long Live America thanks to R. Lee Ermey!!!!!! A tribute to what our founding fathers envisioned!!!!
THAT man is the hardcore evidence of bravery in America, if every one was like him , this would be a stronger nation, and I hope to meet him some day. You have NO idea how bad I wish I could.
R Lee Erney is the man. No one cold play a better shereiff in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Remake and its Prequel, than him. So glad they got him, and his work for the marines and the army is apperciated.
Hell yes! R. Lee Ermey is awesome, and I wish they could think up some more ideas for Lock N' Load, but there arent a lot of subjects to talk about. He has been over almost all of them!
I shot a quick interview with R. Lee at the Knob Creek Machine Gun show a couple years ago while he was there, (he was doing an ep of Mail Call, I crew the official video.) He's a really genuine, gracious, funny guy who appreciates his fans. God forbid being on his bad side though...
Very strong film - particularly the scenes with Ermey. What's most surprising is that he did not even get an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Sgt. Hartman! The Oscars should be ashamed of themselves for not acknowledging such a great performance. Perhaps it was because he is a real life DI and they figured he's merely portraying himself.
Patriotism is alive in many places, Gunny. Thank you for your even-handed approach to the VN War on your show. I.e., it is patriotic to oppose an unwise war if that is what your brain and heart tell you to do.
I like Lee. he brought some credibility to war movies because he served in the Marines and fought in Vietnam. I don't think Hollywood gave him enough credit.
When I was in Marine Corp boot camp in 1967 one of our DI's came up with one of the greatest one liners ever. "You privates are lower than whale shit and that is on the bottom of the ocean."
haha i love this guy. i actually got to sit down and eat dinner with him on super bowl sunday night with two other guys. i got a picture with him and he autographed my copy of FMJ. the entire time we were eating all these hot girls were coming to our table saying "omg texas chainsaw massacre is my fav movie can i get a picture?" that was a fun night
He's the reason lots of kids joined the Marine Corps--that's kind of funny, since I watched Full Metal Jacket on video with a few buddies my very last night in the Marine Corps. Even then I was fond of my memories of boot camp, but glad I didn't have to go through all that again. It does get old sometimes.
@willshiznit86 Apart from the fact that some people actually forget there was a Vietnam part, the marine corps has the tendency to make war sound awesome and honorable ("you will be scholars of death, praying for war!") or whatever... Also, people want to be like Hartman or Animal Mother... But hey, R.Lee.Ermey was promoted to Gny.Sgt. for this movie, and since he was picked BECAUSE he was a DI in the corps, all his lines are genuine. (He was originally just an advisor)
This is in Reading PA? I love MAAM's WWII Weekend, I dont think I saw him down there in a while though. And I also dont know why he called it "R-ee-ding" because I only ever heard it as "Red-ing", but whatever, hes a bad ass.
I got out in '83 as E-5. (Not quite as "bad ass" as was 30 years and 30 pounds ago). Did you go through the phases of naval prepatory high school and naval acadamies to become an officer?
I hope Ermey supports the Republicans in November and 2012. He MUST do some ads attacking Democrats and give his hardcore insults as to why they are ruining our country. I can just imagine him making anti-Obama attack ads with his hot-tempered insults. Come Ermey!! Do it for us!!!
@drLibre22 I guess I was in the wrong if you only meant "some." But concerning your last point, the US military has spent a very large amount of money for the defense of Poland. In fact, last year there was talk about building some sort of anti-missile device for Poland courtesy of the US, I forgot exactly what the device was, however. But it doesn't matter because most Americans including myself want military spending reduced and less bases and less intervention overseas.
Hell, had I seen this when younger, I would have joined the Marines and gone to Vietnam. Probably be dead or married to a Vietnamese. I never knew a reacharound was a COMMON courtesy. Guess I need to write Miss Manners.
I could listen to this guy speak all day.
It's funny but he is the reason I join the corp . Funny how motivated so many folks

Very cool guy!! He was in Birmingham. My dad took me to meet him and I was very honored. I must say he is a great actor!!
Now that is a real American!!! If only there were more like him!! God bless you R. Lee Ermey!!!
THAT man is the hardcore evidence of bravery in America, if every one was like him , this would be a stronger nation, and I hope to meet him some day. You have NO idea how bad I wish I could.

Patriotism still remains in my heart!! And my brother's a Marine!! SEMPER FIDELIS!!
Every Marine not only can relate to him, but also share the brotherhood with one another.

This guy makes me proud to be an American. I may not be Military quality, but this guy is boss.

He should've got an Oscar for Full metal jacket! He actually improvised some of his lines! LOL

R Lee Ermy
This guy is the man!
Such a great actor that you hate him as the character he plays in the movies, cause hes so realistic!
love it he called it 'Hollywierd'
small correction , actually it is "Semper Fidelis" but it got shortened (as so many words and names in the U.S.) to "Semper Fi"
He is the reason I am going into the USMC!!!
Where did R. Lee Ermey go first to do his Drill Instructing duty, Parris Island or Sand Diego??
i love r. lee
love him great
R. Lee Ermey is a good USMC actor. He can talk. I hope he could walk when was on duty.
When I watched "Full metall jacket" i didn't knot Ermey could talk that silent... or that he could smile...:)
He's a really likeable guy, we probably don't share a lof of the same political views - but I still think he's a pretty cool human being.
If I meet him someday, I'm gonna ask him if he knew my father because he was in the marines during the Vietnam War too.
@willshiznit86 Because they're not afraid. Be glad there are men like that.
Full metal jacket is the reason I want to enlist after high school
does anybody know if R. Lee Ermey has an opinion about Jack Webb in the D.I. ?
Did R. Lee Ermey do his bootcamp in Parris Island, or San Diego, can anyone tell me?? i would really appreciate it.
R. Lee Ermey is a good man....
@AD7BK1 Amen... my compliments for your comments as no one could have said it better...
@willshiznit86 Apart from the fact that some people actually forget there was a Vietnam part, the marine corps has the tendency to make war sound awesome and honorable ("you will be scholars of death, praying for war!") or whatever...

He said "Semper Fi"; It's the marine corps motto and in Latin it means "always faithful".
This is in Reading PA? I love MAAM's WWII Weekend, I dont think I saw him down there in a while though. And I also dont know why he called it "R-ee-ding" because I only ever heard it as "Red-ing", but whatever, hes a bad ass.
hes my reason for joining 2 more years
I wish this guy was my grandpa!
Damn strait!!!
The Gunney got his start at MCRD San Diego, then MCRD Parris Island, and then was deployed to Vietnam w/ Marine Wing Support Group 17 in '68...
well said bro of war! way to go.
I got out in '83 as E-5. (Not quite as "bad ass" as was 30 years and 30 pounds ago). Did you go through the phases of naval prepatory high school and naval acadamies to become an officer?

R. Lee Ermey = The Boss
Gunney for President! God we need someone like him!
Imagine if he got pissed off like his role in full metal jacket and yelled at someone that way!
The first time, it sounded like he said 'Hollyweird'.
He seems like he'd be a pretty cool guy. and a huge bad ass.
He was brilliant in Full Metal Jacket..
Yeh, you're right!
He's a gunnery Sergent. As well as being a drill instructor.
I hope Ermey supports the Republicans in November and 2012. He MUST do some ads attacking Democrats and give his hardcore insults as to why they are ruining our country.

Hell, had I seen this when younger, I would have joined the Marines and gone to Vietnam. Probably be dead or married to a Vietnamese.
I never knew a reacharound was a COMMON courtesy.
Guess I need to write Miss Manners.
There is only one person who rivals R. Lee Ermey that is General George S. Patton.
Hehehe!!
I knew he didn't like those fart-sniffers in Holly-Wierd!
R. Lee Ermey, you kick ass!!!
