when applied correctly, plasti dip can last up to 2+ years. it does NOT damage paint. if you wait 2-3 weeks after applying, you can take it through a car wash, hit it with a pressure washer, etc.. and nothing will happen. it's very water proof. I've had my cars emblems, window trim, door handles, and rims dipped for a little under a year now and I haven't had to pay much attention to it at all
so the mirror closes when you lock it, is there chrome left over when you do that? I haven't seen you move the mirror in close position when doing this.
What I would really like to see, is a translucent black plasti dip, so you could spray it over chrome turn it into black chrome, also another good one would be clear plasti dip so you could spay your car for a track day and still keep it looking good

I plasti dipped my rims matte white with a metalizer and went to the wash yourself car wash. The pressure washer was crazy strong. I swear I thought id peel it right off. Even when i tried my hardest to peel it off the rims it didn't even budge. Was more afraid of damaging the paint on my car than the plasti dip itself
