    • @chloefirou

It is so necessary! Speaking from experience: there is so much forward weight on the body. You would not even be able to imagine how that feels in the last weeks unless you’ve experienced it. I found that handrails on the stairs were necessary not only to balance, but to help pull myself up the stairs, because the weight was too much for my legs. Looking at those stairs without a rail, and imagining using them when pregnant.. i think i’d have to slide down on my bottom. As for going up - impossible. For balance and safety you’d have to crawl up on your hands and knees, but you couldn’t with a bump in the way.

How absolutely beautiful does Christine look right now, she is glowing and the way she held her precious bump while speaking about how happy she was with the transformation of the cabin, it just brought tears to my eyes, I'm so very very happy for both of you! ❤
Everything looks great, I really like he white ceiling, the lights over the table are so nice and I love the stair treads.
Can I suggest a Matt black for the fireplace once you've got round to repairing any damage, I think black would be practical and bold, you wouldn't see the soots marks from the fire. If not black I think a dark bold colour would work just as well.

The trick is to use a roller (a small one) to get the paint on the surface and then use a brush to smooth it out. I've done painting/decorating professionally and always painted larger wooden areas like that... saves time and you still get the brushed finish.

I LOVE the ceiling! I can see why they would say that, but all can be reversed for someone who wants it natural after you move if you do.
It only matters in a historic area with those kinds of laws, lol
In interior decorating, you should do what makes you happiest! A lot of people are painting their cabin walls and ceilings. Do what makes you happiest!
It is a great move when it is so dark all the time and especially if you tend to get depressed in the winter! It is the best move to help lift your spirits.
The stuff you put on the knots was a sealer in English. You were painting with a paint brush. A pen is plastic with ink, and a pencil is made of wood and carbon called graphite that needs to be sharpened.
Just think of the paint brush as having bristles like a hair brush has bristles.
    Unwind is a word.
You are doing a great job and your English is amazing!
    Keep up the good work!

Good job Kalle! I love a white painted ceiling in a room with natural wood..it lightens and brightens... I think it might help to have a railing for those stairs. Especially if you're carrying a baby up and down them. The runners were a great idea and look homey and warm with the wood..you're doing a great job!❤

With Love from Canada! PLEASE KALLE save Christine's life and the baby's and immediately build a hand rail for the steep stairs!! Heavily pregnant women can easily lose balance and without a hand rail on the steep stairs to steady her climb up and down she could have a very serious fall with the loss of balance that comes with mid-to-late pregnancy.
I know from experience, my dear sister lost her child at 7 months by going up the steep stairs in her cabin in Vancouver. She nearly died as well.
THE HAND RAIL is probably the most important thing you can do to ensure that Christine and the baby survive in the cabin!
I can't believe that this has not already been done, should have been done even before the lovely paint. that looks wonderful in the living room/dining room area.
Please have your carpenter friend over to extend the wooden railing from the top of the stairs to the bottom. I really don't; want to find out that either of them have been injured or worse because of a lack of such a simple, vitally important safety feature in your beautiful house!!!! Also, please ensure Christine has an indoor toilet or chair or portable toilet so that she won't slip on the ice or snow when she is heavily pregnant. These are the TWO MOST IMPORTANT THINGS WE HERE IN CANADA think that you should do.
We midwives say this with much love and blessings in our hearts for you both! Love to you from Yvette in Canada!!!

Kalle - I think you can scrub the stone / concrete of the fireplace. There are natural, easy to use scrubs.
Check with experts at your home center, to be certain, but I believe painting would create potentially dangerous off-gassing every time you have a fire.

I get where Christine is coming from. Having lived in Alaska for many years, the rustic wood look is what everyone wants. But, in the winter, you feel like you live in a cave, inside and outside. The dark can be overwhelming, especially when you know it's 3PM, and it's dark. The white paint on the ceiling reflects the lights, and brightens the room so that it seems like it's really daylight. And anyone who knows anything about painting, knows the paint could always be stripped off and the wood finish restored. In this case, I would put on another coat of paint, so it was even brighter. 😆😆

I live in an old stone cottage with dark grey stone walls. After living here for a few years the gloomy feel in the winter was really getting me down so I decided to paint the interior stone walls white. Everyone told me I would ruin the place but I went ahead and did it anyway. Now they all tell me how much brighter and prettier it is!!
You must do what is right for you. In a place that has long dark winters it makes perfect sense to lighten your interiors. I hope the look on Christine’s face when she saw it made all the hours of hard work worthwhile. I really like it.😊

I also find it strange when people have such an invested opinion that they feel expressing it will change your mind/force you to acquiesce. I rarely comment my opinion on videos even when it’s asked because by the time the video is posted the changes likely took place already. I’m just excited to see the outcome and what you feel about it.
Clearly, many viewers cannot understand the darkness of Nordic winters and the need to have bright colors, not only to see but for mental health as well. It all looks beautiful. Your home is gorgeous. A railing on the stairwell is what I must suggest, for safety, and wisdom at least for the remainder of the pregnancy, though I must say that every stairwell, steep or not steep, should have a railing. You are both so young and if you don’t yet realize how it will keep you both so much safer, and your children, I hope that you can realize it now. It has incredible power to prevent falls that could truly be catastrophic to a pregnancy.

I grew up in a traditional log cabin in Canada; I totally understand the need for a white ceiling!! Cute, dark, cozy only looks good, but so hard to live in, one needs to read, sew, write or find a dropped item, and that's especially difficult in the winter. Our cabin was our full time home my whole life, and my parent put in a white ceiling it added a feeling of cleanliness.

I love how your videos make me think so many things. I live in Michigan, USA and your squirrels look different than ours, yours have Lynx ears😆. And I love the white ceiling and learned a new thing, I did not know that there was a shellack for covering the knots in wood before you paint. Did you teach your dogs to run the sled in tandem or did they just know how?
You chose a magical place to live, thank you for sharing.
And btw, seeing you making the house safe for baby and nice for Christine to come home to is so sweet🥰
Speaking as a woman who has been pregnant after many miscarriages, I very much understand what Christine is feeling about the house and the way of life and I think it is so wonderful that you know her so well that you know what to do to help ease her worries and are willing to put in the work to make it happen.

The part of the wood where branches were growing is called “knots”. So you painted the knots in the wood planks/panels/boards. Great video as always.

Your ceiling looks fabulous. Who cares what anyone else thinks? It's your home. Those birds with the coral coloured breast are called Bullfinch. I wish we had them where I live.

The word you want for the cut woven rugs is "unraveled." I might have gone for a bit more subtle change on the ceiling, but I applaud your decision. Those who criticize might not have spent a winter so near the Arctic Circle. My SAD would make me cry for relief in the darkness of your cabin as it was.

Looking good. Paint color does brighten up the cabin. Are you going to be putting up a hand rail on the stairs. As you said they’re steep. It would make it safer especially coming down the stairs with a new baby in your arms.

I totally understand why you needed the fresh light ceilings and also the beautiful thing about wood is that it can be painted and repainted and sanded and stained. What I do not understand is why people feel their opinions on decor and lifestyle choices are superior. My father often used the Latin phrase, de gustibus non est disputandum, which basically means when it comes to taste/preferences there can be no dispute. There is no right or wrong when it comes to aesthetic preference. 😂❤🏠

The birds can sit on your hands and eat, if you hold the hand with seeds in it for a while before you fill the feeder, with seeds inside, just close to the feeder at first then out away from it. Some patience required. After one has done it, more birds come easily.

Hey Kalle, now the cabin looks even more scandinavian and cosy! I love it, too. You really know how to steal the heart of every woman and especially the danish one - as you achive so high interior design level of hominess. I am glad that Christine likes it too. Thank you for taking us with you and can not wait until your next video! ♡

Having a white ceiling is much more economical use of light so that really helps during winter. on the other hand if you, for some reason, decide you want it back to the wood colour, I don't know if it's possible to sand it down without removing planks from their place and that is a big project. So everything has it's pros and cons. But aesthetically it looks really good.

Kalle, I am glad you painted your ceiling. When you live in the northern hemisphere winters are dark and dark wood can be quite oppressive in a home. I am in the same boat here and slowly whitening the wood panels and walls inside my home. Winter feels a lot more "cozy" now since I have done this. All the best to you both and looking forward to your next project😊

It’s your home and you are the ones that have to live there at the end of the day; I don’t understand those who are super critical of your choices & feel they have a right to privately message you to do so, especially as those choices have no impact whatsoever on their lives 🤷‍♀️ Christine’s reaction is all you need to know you made the right choice, you are creating a wonderful family home together 🥰

Quick Tipp for the roof. Use a climbing rope or something similar to „cut“ the snow ~ learned that in austria at a mountain hut 🤙🏻
The whole snow on the roof will come down like an Avalanche 😅 pretty funny but be careful where you stand ~ learned that the hard way.

I was a hater! I came in the stream and wondered why you'd want to paint over such beautiful wood. But seeing it at the end, I was expecting all the walls and floors and extras to be white as well. If that's what you want to do in the end, more power to you. But Wooden walls/floor with the white ceiling is so damn pretty!!! I absolutely love it.
