  • If your tailgate window has a hard time going up, and tips to the side when you try to move it I show you how to fix it here. All you need are a few spare bolts and nuts, its a pretty easy fix but I show you some tricks to make sure you do it right the first time.
    1. Remove the plastic panel and then the metal panel for whichever side it's sagging on.
    2. Remove sliding track.
    3. Take off rusted bolts and prep L bracket to be put back on
    4. Install new bolts (preferably short carriage bolts).
    5. Test and reassemble.

Finally! I’ve had this problem for like a year and a half and I opened up the panels and saw the rust. I ignored it because I couldn’t find anyone else with this problem and didn’t want to mess up my window more than it was. Now I finally feel like I can fix it

Thanks for the video! Slammed the runner off a ledge offroad and the window arms broke on both sides LOL. Removed the arms and going to fix it tomorrow!

Thanks for the tutorial, it's snowing here in NC and my 3rd gen rear window is stuck halfway from closing all the way. Just gotta find a 10mm 😆

Lift the tailgate and get someone to press the switch while you push the window back up by hand. That's what I did in the winter until it got warm enough to fix it. Good luck on the 10mm hunt

Excellent video. Thand you! I appreciate your intuitive mechanical skills. I have a first generation Sequoia with rusted rear window guide tracks. Mine are rusted through, so well beyond saving. The mechanism looks very similar. Possibly the same part numbers? In any case, this is a helpful tutorial as I approach replacing the rotted out parts in my tailgate.

Turning your key in the rear and holding it moves the window up/down too.

So from what I can tell, it’s just a few bolts on that driver side that have accumulated rust over the years to cause this? If that’s the case, thank you for the video. I will be sure to let you know how this goes in the next few weeks!

Yes they build up rust and it pops the nut out of where it was snug inside the plastic. The issue is fixed by just sending a bolt all the way through, the trick is to keep the new bolts as flush as possible to stop it from catching on the plastic cover behind the window.

Hope you can help me. The plastic pieces that are fixed to the bottom edge of the window (where the bolts attach) were dried out and cracked. Can I replace these parts?

what if the plastic piece that is attached to the actual glass bottom edge has broken? Is that replaceable?

I have this same exact issue on 1998 3rd gen
Does that mean the bolts are rusted out for one side .
And the other side works fine I thought there was a motor issue but now I thinks that’s not the problem

So that window bracket you ground down and repainted... what is that technically called. Ours got rusted and we got the right and left guide rails and I thought it would be included with the left guide rail and it is not.

Find what your part # is then google it to find a dealership with one in stock, or ebay. You could also go to your local junkyards website and see if they have any 3rd gens on the lot, that's probably the cheapest option.
