I LOVE a relic finish on guitars for a few reasons 1. I think the guitar feels so much better when playing, Like a broken in pair of jeans. 2. You dont have to baby your brand new guitar and worry about a scratch. 3. Not everyone plays in a band or goes on tour, So us bedroom players still like to have that "Road worn" look and feel since we dont leave the house
And, y'know...I'm just gonna say it. It looks fucking rad and we like it. Anyone that has an issue with it, that's fine...but it's what WE like, not them. We as individual guitarists can enjoy whatever instrument in whatever color and configuration we like.
I love it, for much the reasons you listed. I hate treating things like they are precious. It's what I do. So, obviously, I would take care of it, but the relic finish would help me just fuckin relax. It's just like motorcycles, I dont want a 30k pig that I'm afraid to get dust or gravel on it. Killer guitar, the single bridge humbucker and reverse headstock are the cats ass.
Super well deserved - Henrik is quite the underrated player IMO. Also, it's super visible how happy you are with that thing, and that's what really matters! Awesome stuff! :)
This is THE review I was waiting for ! I customized all my guitars with that push/Push volume knob as pickup selector since I saw Henrik's charvels years ago. It has a really nice feeling.
Henrik deserved a sig. One of the best out there in my opinion. Grew up listening to them. Happiest memories discovering them and sharing their music with my friends at school. He was a massive influence on all of us.
This is why i’ve been playing Charvel guitars for nearly a decade, exceptional build quality for your money. i started out with their cheaper Desolation Star deluxe model for $750 when i was 17 and nothing about it felt cheap, best guitar i’ve played for the money, im 26 now and own a couple more expensive Charvel models but i still find myself going back and playing that “cheaper” model as well, that’s a testament to their builders and quality control.
I played this in my local shop, it's incredibly well playing and made guitar. The knob is perfectly placed for me. I have two Charvel USA made 8th final batch guitars and the neck profile for my hand is the best I have ever played, the fret work and attention to detail is I'm my opinion superior. I love the knob way far away from the trem bar, my first guitar was a Kramer striker and I did this mod along with one single hum pickup , so thank you Charvel for making these guitars, Jackson/Charvel forever. And hey man I think your tone for the demo is actually really good and classic. Thanks for the demo. P.S. On the JB pickup, J Yunger from white zombie used these, paired with a mesa amp and Randall amp, he was able to create monster tone. Just crushing amounts of gain,
Sweet. With the success of the limited edition, they are making it a full fledged pro-mod Signiture guitar so all you ppl selling yours on Reverb for $3,000.00, Good luck trying to get that now. I'm getting mine for $1,659.00 street.
To anyone turned off by the neck heel: modding it to a JB or Ultra Strat neck heel is the easiest mod in the world, especially with a relicced guitar. I've done it on 2 Teles and a Pbass, no issues.
Henrik is one of my favorite players, ever since I discovered Evergrey years and years ago. I used to watch the Night To Remember live DVD over and over. I loved their Caparisons but Charvel seems to fit him so well. The way you describe the neck sounds the old 80s Kramer Pacer Imperial I had for the past year, the neck on that was so used in it almost felt like literal raw wood, a little grimy looking in comparison to newer / less played satin necks, but so smooth and worn in.
I own one. It needed some minor intonation adjustment. JB pickup leaned back so I stuck a rectangular piece of rigid foam under the cream coil side of the JB and that fixed it. The frets and neck is perfect and the tone is midrange warm with articulate lows and slightly rolled off highs. The perfect balance of EQ with Marshalls. Has become a favorite in my arsenal of guitars.
I don’t think there has ever been a production guitar made with the specs I’d love (until now) from the reverse headstock to the volume knob being out of my way, Single hum in the neck, push switch and swamp ash from the bottom of a backwoods hole..Nice video🤘
Been watching your videos for a while. You just keep getting better and better in every way, if I may say so. Your playing gets better and better ... Your mixes and songs get better and better sounding ... And I love the positive message at the end man. So true. Also ...I have that same guitar on pre order and am looking forward to it getting here SOOOO much! So happy to hear your positive review! Can you tell me what you think of the neck profile? Is it a Charvel speed neck ... Or more like the standard Pro Mod neck? I have played and own EVH Striped Series guitars ... And I love that neck profile ... Which is also 12-16 compound radius. Just wondering what your thoughts are on the size and shape of it in comparison to the other Charvels you've played and reviewed. Rock on man!
I noticed this on your wall last vid. I thought it looked rad and was wondering what it was. Nice one, like you said it reminds me of the guitars of my past. Don't normally like it but I'm digging the relicked white look, cool sound and sick riffs, thanks dude!
I've been fitting push-push pots for coil-splitting for years. Just so much quicker to use - can't understand why they're not used more widely. Awesome guitar, BTW - and awesome playing. And I'm not even a big fan of metal ... but this is something else. You man are inspired!
@@jensenparker5504 You can get Alpha push-push pots in various values from WD Music. Allparts Music also sell (rather more expensive) push-push pots. I'm in the UK and I use Alpha push-push pots from AxesRUs. So far, I've not had any issues with them. Hope that helps!
I just got mine a few days ago. I did the same thing after meeting Henrik and personally seeing this guitar first hand I knew I had to bug the hell out of Charvel. Email after email. I bet they got sick of us. As for the JB’s... I love them, but like you said here, it matters which rig you plug it into. I have tricked out Marshall’s and it sounds massive. Thanks for making the review. By far the best review I’ve seen as of yet. The most sincere and honest review. And you put this guitar I feel in the best light objectively. Peace!
Hey dude I finally got my Charvel Danny few days ago. Sounds great, plays great and I'm super stoked to have it in the collection. Took it for a jam last night and worked it with my Jam rig to find a good sound. Very happy when I left. One question, as expected the Floyd springs are stiff AF with the stock 3. Did you pull one out? I'm thinking I'm going to go the V and pull one spring out. The action was set up great by Sweetwater but I'm a Boomer Bender and the tension was pretty tough after 3 hours of playing leads. I've not had a Floyd sine my Kramer Nightswan (yep, back in the day) . Appreciate your input or any of the other Metal Heads reading this.....Peace.
Man, I'm the same age of you and this instrument makes me feel so nostalgic and happy! I personally love the top mounted floyd rose trem and have the same on my '84 Ibanez Destroyer which is a chunky beast! This would be a perfect mod machine and I'd love to put a Duncan Distortion or Custom 5 like you said in the bridge and a 'Lil Screamin' Demon in the neck! Great indepth review Arnold, you looked in your element with this one man, keep up the awesome work! \m/
Hey Arnold, been subscribed to you for a bit now but when I saw this review I almost fell out of my chair. I love this guitar, it’s been ruling my dreams for quite a while. This review is the best one out there. You gave a great product description and honest review. I will own this guitar in the future for sure. Looks and sounds awesome!🤟🏻
I love Henrik! Met him at a signing tent at Bloodstock, showed my strat that am building and he was giving me advise! He even asked the security to wait 🤣 as they tried to move me in 🤣. Love his playing. The Push/push is a better component than push/pull. Ask Henning from HP42 he's always been banging on about them.
Incredibly helpful. Thanks so much. I’ve been eyeing this one for a while. Your review helped answer a lot of questions. If you ever feel like revisiting this guitar for another video I’d love to see it. Thanks
You make my favorite gear videos, and that’s really saying something ! Thank you for your rad content! If you’re ever in NC, I’d love to show you the cool shit!
Try replacing the the Floyd rose tremolo bar with a genuine original schaller German lockmeister tremolo bar, they are about $18bucks.they are way more smooth with no slack or mess or noises
Sounds a lot like my Jackson pro ht7 I got and I'm crazy impressed especially the fretboard and frets. Never thought I'd be a Jackson but was in love when I picked it up. The pickups were weak so those were changed, but I'm drooling to get a charvel even more now
I watched Evergrey live and just loved the look of his custom shop Charvel. This looks like a perfect guitar for me but just can't justify having 2 guitars with a floyd hahaha.
Nice demo! I love this model also. Now the JB is my fav bridge pickup, but I'll tell you what...a close 2nd is the Dimarzio Dominion. You should really check that out. I know you said Alnico, which the JB is alnico, but I think the Dominion would be right up your alley. And if not, pickups are easy and relatively cheap to swap out. I'm also really digging the Charvel DK22 and the new Jackson Gus G sig San Dimas...that candy apple red finish with the matching reverse headstock is sick!
I've never been a huge fan of the JB, but the Dominion is a great pickup. I put a Dominion set into a Jackson Fusion Plus, so the mega 5 way switch can split coils. Works great in the neck & bridge, and split tones are very nice too
@@VexLosers I was going to order one last month but everyone was sold out, EVERYONE!!. Where the hell did you find one? I just scored one that was used for 400 dollars more than they sold for new. No regrets because I absolutely had to have one! Damn limited editions get me every time. 😪
Little bummed out we didn't get any cleans on that single coil, but that's just personal preference. Seeing as its a hotrod shredder, I'd probably go for like the Guitarmory Scud or something around the 12-13k range as a replacement for the bridge pickup
so let me ask you , since the floyd sits flat on the body, how is the action on it? like how low can you get the strings? do you think you would have to shim the neck up to get the strings lower keeping the floyd level? kind of the same issue with the EVH Wolfgang specials.
I had to take this guitar to one of the top luthiers in my European region, and he did the best job he could with it. However, the string action on this particular guitar can never be as low as on any of my Ibanez RG Prestige or S Prestige guitars. Even my Fender American Standard has lower string action, so if you're accustomed to having strings almost touching the frets without buzzing, you might find it frustrating. The action on this guitar needs to be slightly higher, and the G string is a bit higher than the rest, not following the compound radius properly. If that bothers you, you would need to use shims under all the saddles to level it correctly. Nevertheless, it can be adjusted to a level where it becomes pleasant to play. Most, if not all, of these guitars are manufactured in a factory in Mexico, which results in a poor final touch. I had to do a lot of additional setup and finishing work to bring it up to the standard it should be. Considering the price they ask for it, primarily for its appearance, I don't believe it's worth it. You can get a similar guitar with a regular So Cal 1 model for much less money.
Maybe you could try a magnet on the fret to check if it's nickel or stainless steel ? magnet stick well to nickel but not very well to stainless steel (depending of the quality of the sst)
I can't even name 1guy bein' half as good as him when it comes to guitars reviews and this Charvel is pretty awesome, if I can suggest: frome my personal experience the sh-6 on ash bodies sounds just...evil!
I just received my 2nd one and the quality is much better than the 1st one I had. Unfortunately the 1st 1 had a broken truss rod. But this new one is killer.
but dimebucker is sort of a toss up. I think that 69 in this guitar sounds better than the 59 they're usually putting in the neck position of HH in a Dime config but I think the strat body will benefit more than the ML did from an X2N because of the big ass on it where the ML has a big air gap that wants something a little more rounded off or it might turn icepicky on us
APG - Thanks dude for the review. I'm really into this model & the demos. I'm a forever Fender strat guy, but this model looks like what I wanted for years now. I've never had a Floyd guitar - I really want a low maintenance rock/blues machine with great intonation. Your valued opinion?
The Floyd is definitely not low maintenance, but it rewards you if you learn how to maintain it and how to set it up properly. I would highly recommend checking it out and learning how to set one up. The best advice I can give, and this is advice I've shared on my maintenance streams and I learned from several luthiers and techs, is that you do need to make sure you tighten everything down really well, BUT...absolutely do NOT jerk these screws closed. That is how these screws get snapped or rounded off. Tighten things slowly, but firmly, and when you encounter resistance that a slight amount of pressure can't overcome, then stop.
Haven’t watched the vid yet, but man that guitar looks amazing!!! Hope its as amazing as it looks. I’m in m 30s but knew charvel brand because one was gifted to an older cousin of mine. But hope it goes well. Lol. Gonna see this.

Too much bass sounds like its underwater
fuck it, just go straight to an X2N lol that neck pickup is fire as fuck tho
but dimebucker is sort of a toss up. I think that 69 in this guitar sounds better than the 59 they're usually putting in the neck position of HH in a Dime config but I think the strat body will benefit more than the ML did from an X2N because of the big ass on it where the ML has a big air gap that wants something a little more rounded off or it might turn icepicky on us
the only neck single coil I've heard that cut better than that without shattering your teeth was an Arcane set in a Trussart Steelcaster
It's been a while since I've watched one of your videos and holy shit you lost so much weight! Looking great man!
We need to petition for Henrik's Black Star to be made next.
Super!
Killer Rythm work.
Love HS configuration on Charvels
Aww man I've found a wicked channel here! Subbed, from the UK
Haven’t watched the vid yet, but man that guitar looks amazing!!! Hope its as amazing as it looks. I’m in m 30s but knew charvel brand because one was gifted to an older cousin of mine. But hope it goes well. Lol. Gonna see this.
Love it man, killer ax, good review.
