Rika is a scout mech, once human, now she is the property of the Genevian military.
Rika's crime was small, stealing food. But when faced with a five-year prison term, or conscription in the Genevian military, she chose war.
She had no idea what that conscription would entail.
Now little of Rika's human body remains, and she serves as an SMI-2 scout mech, the meat inside a cyborg body. She, and others like her, are sent in ahead of the human soldiers to tip the scales of war.
But the enemy has upped the ante and the mechs of Rika's fireteam will have to go up against unimaginable odds if they want to serve their time and become human again.

Love these, great narration, and fast paced, not too technical and love the 'party' grenades 🎉🎉😂
I dont know what it is about the Rika books but they are so much easier to follow than her other works like the Intrepid Saga. Dont get me wrong, its good but when I read Rika's story I can clearly see the scene. Same with the Sentience Wars.
I listened to this prequel first and loved it. Mechanized cyborgs with real ♥️ ♥️ I just loved the characters and world building. You feel like you’re the one in the squad no one mentions. I’m so looking forward to the next book

I like cyborgs especially female cyborgs.
Let me be honest: I do not know how i feel about the setup, personally i don't like repetitive mentions of technical details/signatures and especially the mostly U.S.-favored use of capital abbreviations - it takes away the fascination/curiosity for what is behind it and instead serves the normalizing-treadmill of actual non-normal specifics. That aside, i get a slight Orson Scott Card and Robert A. Heinlein vibe - which is meant as a compliment. I will continue listening after having finished this audiobook. Immensely helpful would be a chronological listening order offered via a sorted playlist. The narration is well done. Thanks for sharing!

Am not sure i can listen to this series its so depressing I’ve only got an hour into outcast and it seem like she’ll never get justice for what they did to her, not sure I can read a siers we’re the f-cks never get just deserts. Is it worth the read??

What exactly are they firing depleted uranium rods from? A sniper rifle? Uranium being a dense metal would destroy any rifle bore almost instantly. So they would have to use APFSDS rounds. All APFSDS rounds are fired from smooth bores, not a rifle. They are also all saboted. So this wouldn't be a sniper rifle it would be a smooth bore cannon most likely 25mm or above. Also kinetic projectiles wouldn't knock thing back. They would just bore through. Any weapon that would throw you would also throw the person firing equally. Every action has a equal and opposite reaction. Even a tank round fired at a person doesn't toss them. It just vaporizes them. Red mist.
Armor in this universe can be really good even a lighter is better than anything we have
