    I struggle with Inktense, yes, but thanks to you, I'm getting closer to what I want from them. When you show mistakes or less-than-you-like moments and discuss how you addressed them, it's FABULOUSLY helpful. Thank you so much for all your wonderful videos.

    I am such a fan of the Derwent Inktense and appreciate every example how to use them best. Thanks Helen!

    Wow, I never realized I could create a usable color palette with the inktense by making a set of swatches. Love it! Thank you

    It’s lovely. Despite the mistakes you had pointed out it still looks effortless. Yet I know that it’s a learning curve and practice combined with experience will ultimately yield the results we are looking for. Thank you Helen.

    Thank you for this scrumptious apple demo! Your colours are beautiful - and I love that thin waterbrush you are using. I have Derwent water brushes, but have not managed to find such a lovely thin one. Thank you, dear Helen, for your beautiful demonstrations, and the line drawings you so generously supply - I have learned such a lot from you, and don't miss any of your videos. May the new year bring you happiness, peace and prosperity in abundance! Love from South Africa xxxxx

    Helen: wow!!! I love your technique and how you explain what and why you are doing. I've been watercoloring for a couple of years now, coming from forty plus years of tole/decorative painting with acrylics. I love INKTENSE and, thanks to your tutorials, am learning how to use them. They sure give give you more "bang for your buck". Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent.

      Thank you very much Terry. I try to mix things up a little. Watercolour mostly but Inktense now and again. I’ve a few Inktense tutorials now and just finished filming a gouache tutorial which I really enjoyed x

    You've redeemed yourself commendably well, Helen! This is odd because it was this type of medium that got me interested in doing color art. Long story, but this past summer, I was in hospital far longer than anyone should (like, almost the entire summer, but I'm still here so no complaints!). They had this little arts and crafts group you could join. I liked coloring in the little pictures they gave us with ink brushes like you used here. So, when I got home, I ordered a very inexpensive set (big mistake!). Some brushes flowed well, others not, so eventually I thought, "Oh the hell with these things! I'll get watercolours instead!". So that's what happened. Seeing what you did here with them, maybe I'll try to follow you on the video with another (better!) set. Thanks so much! Michael (Rembrandt Fool #27)

    Just need to mess and mess with the water to get it right. I tend to go to thick with the paint and have to pick up

    • @raecampbellsstudio

      Try not to add too much water to start with. Pick up a small bit of pigment at a time

  • @art-life-travel
    @art-life-travel 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Don't really see the advantage over regular watercolours...am I missing something? Seems OK for small, detailed work but not big washes or where you want the colours to blend and bleed, which is what I really love about watercolours!

    • @raecampbellsstudio
      @raecampbellsstudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tim. They won’t lift off when layering on the way that watercolour does. Some of my viewers struggle with that so these can work better for some people. Plus they are designed to work on different surfaces such as textiles etc

    • @art-life-travel
      @art-life-travel 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

       @Helen Campbell thanks for that. I had seen them before but couldn't quite work out what the advantage is. I keep coming back to just getting good at watercolours, I am like a kid in a candy store when I go into an art supply shop!!

    • @LibbyRal
      @LibbyRal 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even watercolor pencils won't create 'big washes'. But inktense definitely blends and bleeds if you work the area while everything is still wet. When dry, the colors are permanent and can be covered with other colors and not disturb the layer below - so you can get a visual 'blending'. You'd want to approach them as a completely different artistic tool, rather than looking to perfectly duplicate watercolors.

    • @raecampbellsstudio
      @raecampbellsstudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely. I’m still quiet new to them but as you can see, they can be used many ways x

      @@raecampbellsstudio interesting. i was under the impression paper matters m9re than paint when it comes to lifting as my paint will lift a lot on some and barely at all off other papers. (i haven't tried inktense pencils either ) very interesting video and comments!
