    Turns out, it’s Hickory. Explains why it’s so damn hard to hand split.

    I bought the upgraded version of this saw a week ago, and I absolutely love it. I previously bought the Chicago Electric table saw about 5 years ago from Harbor Freight, and the Hercules saw is WORLDS apart from the C.E.
    There are some new features in the H.F. saw that include a rack adjustment fence, improved foot stands for improved stability, and the off switch also has the ability to brake the blade's spin quicker if you hold the paddle down. I love the features on the fence as well that has a swing arm for making thin cuts safely as well. The sale is on until June 29th, where I was able to get it for $80.00 off. It's definitely a good improvement from the previous generation of this same saw.
    This saw in this video is worlds better than the cheapo Chicago Electric in its own right, but it's no longer available due to new safety regulations which Hercules incorporated into the new saw with some other nice features. If it continues to perform as well as Grimmeute's saw has for him, I will be thrilled.

    Thank you, that answered a couple questions I had on this saw.

    when you freecut the bogging down is probably more to do with the wood shifting against the blade. This can happen when you cut without using the fence as there is nothing to keep it square to the blade. I understand that to cut a very large irregular piece ....it is necessary to free cut to at least get a somewhat straight edge to start. Yo can then go through the 5 cut method to square your work up. Thanks for the Demo, appreciate your work!

    This is a great saw. My only complaint is that it's easy to tip to the right with the table extended. They fixed that on the new re-designed model by adding bigger feet that stick out more to the sides and also they added a rack and pinion fence

      @@Grimmeute I'll have to get on there and look. I mainly use the band saw for making the small slabs. I use the miter saw to get it squared off then on to the band saw.

    That did do a super job. Keep us informed on how the saw continues to perform. Is the saw staying in alignment, not needing to be realigned?

    • @Grimmeute
      @Grimmeute  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s been working fairly well so far. Only alignment that seems to need adjustment, is making sure blade is still at it’s 90deg position with table. Which only gets off a 1/2 deg rarely.

    • @jimwiskus8862
      @jimwiskus8862 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wonder if you could use some Blue Locktite on the screw that adjusts the blade to a true 90°?

    Great Videos. Thanks for doing this. I just purchased a brand new one for only $200. Comes with Carbide tip blade. I don't know anything about power tools and am learning a lot while I renovate the house. A lot of people say this is just a good as a Dewalt (I know... comments will come..). So for the price point and features I will use the $ I save for a Dewalt nail gun... 🙂 Thanks again!

    Music over your voice reminds me of a terribly made public school educational film. Edit, doesn’t need the bells and whistles. Focus on the content, not the sprinkles.

      So you remember those films? My plan worked out perfectly. Mmhaha.
      I’m j/k. That video is a few years old and one of my first, so I was experimenting with editing back then with just the iPhone. And I am for sure not paying for editing software just to make people happy with the production quality. It’s just a tool video.

    • @Grimmeute
      @Grimmeute  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yeah it is. Make some nice cutting boards or cheese boards, fill all that character with some colored epoxy and you got some nice looking woodwork. just check some I have on instagram

      I do have a video of that kind of wood, I believe on TH-cam here. That I turned into some cutting boards also. th-cam.com/video/nxnvwsOdfXg/w-d-xo.html

    • @xelgringox
      @xelgringox 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Some people would actually pay a pretty penny for wood with so much character. Especially hard wood like maple, Hickory to name a few

    • @Grimmeute
      @Grimmeute  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, go to any woodworker’s store and you’ll find out what a slab of something like that would cost you. Some see those imperfections as a canvas, a blank slate of creation, to a piece of art that is as unique as a fingerprint. Some even can see a pattern that you may never see until they finish that piece.
