What would happen if the tool wasn't used and it tried lifting the container

this is only for when the lock was put backwards but is you tried to lift it with the lock in it you would lift both containers (likely damaging them or the crane due to overload)

If only twist lock was 'hung up' and this was not realised there is a good chance - if the container is heavy - that the corner pocket will be torn loose.
