Yes, sometimes I worried about gifts I make myself. But I love every single gift, what my friend make themself and I dont care about quality, I never compare it with gift from shops
this is very true, I'm never comparing any homemade gifts to store-bought, it feels like it's own special different category!
I have given a couple self made presents and they were always met with disappointment and that kind of hurt my feelings because I worked hard on them so I don't dare to do it anymore but I still enjoy making things for myself. It's important to remember that DIY is art and art is so subjective.
As someone who makes gifts and receives handmade gifts as well, I can tell you how much I love it when people take the time to make something for me! Even if it’s not perfect, they’re just so special and I cherish all of them. You made lovely creations Liz! Happy holidays:)

As a DIYer, YES! I'm always worried that my gifts aren't good enough. I crochet and knit gifts for my family almost every year and always second guess if I should just buy things instead lol
editing to say, the jacket came out amazing!
I told my dad several years ago that he was off my crochet list because he never wore anything I made him. Now I mostly make for myself, so I don't have to worry about deadlines or judgment.

Not celebrating Christmas this year bc of the genocide in Gaza, but I asked my friends to send me some photos of their favorite items, and I'm embroidering/making appliqué patches of these items. I'm obsessed with the objects we surround ourselves by and a cute fabric patch of their favorite mug, earrings, bracelet, etc. is just so adorable.

There are definitely hand embroidery stitches for almost everything, (including this style of monogram, I would go for a satin stitch but I'm still a beginner so maybe there are even better suited ones) that look super finished and professional. they just need a lot of time and practice. 😊
I’m considering this surprise vid as Liz’s gift for me, and I love it. The jacket is my favorite, but all the gifts are cool.
My younger sister’s best friend creates digital art, so I commissioned them for my sister’s gift. I’m happy with how it turned out!

im super environmentally conscious so I lov it wen my gifts from friends are diy'ed. my sister gifted me a plant she and her boyfriend rescued and got for free. they got th plant and it looked horrible, they took care of it and when it looked amazing again they gifted it to me for christmas together with a second hand pot :-) perfect :-) my other siste rthe year before gifted me a plant grown from a cutting from a plant from my now diseased grandma.
100 percent yes about the DIY gifts, I do a lot of cross stitch and embroidery for gifts. There's always a voice in the back of my head that's just like who are you kidding, you are a kindergartner giving your friend macaroni art and they will smile but secretly hate it. But my people always love it so I push through that feeling 😊
the worst part about getting so excited about what you’re making is not being able to show the person you’re making it for! Like I know you will love this, which feeds into the excitement, but it’s supposed to be a surprise 🙃 I just end up showing my friends who I can count on to hype me up for all my makes 💖

These are so good! I love that you handmade some of your gifts this year. I'm not crafty so I didn't make any gifts but I did go crazy on Facebook Marketplace and got a lot of stuff vintage and secondhand, which I'm proud of.

I love a handmade gift I think the imperfections make it more unique and personal. There's something charming about it. In saying that I'm always worried about the gifts I make for other people and if they are good enough but then I remind myself that it's one of a kind and someone taking their time and thought of me the whole time they made it is worth so much more and they will appreciate it like I appreciate getting handmade items too

Yes. I have those insecurities, but I still make for my inner circle. (Husband, two kids, daughter in law, mother) They are the lucky ones. No matter what, they will always be the recipient of some hard core love I poured into that stuff I made for them. And then I LET IT GO. Keep creating.
First: your gifts are gorgeous, amazing, and I feel certain every recipient will be thrilled. Second: same strong insecurity. Currently I am knitting a scarf. And after laying it next to an Old Navy scarf to measure, I was like: wow. Dear god. Why do I try???
Awww, I’d love to wear a hand knitted scarf someone made just for me- MUCH more than a machine-made scarf with machine-made “perfect” rows that no one put care into!💖💝✨

The planter is so cute, I love the duel pattern! I'm sure you sealed the inside, but I'd still suggest using a liner because once that terracotta soaks up water, the painted design is done for - this is from experience of course 😂
This is great! I diy'ed or thrifted almost all my gifts this year. I definitely get self conscious about people thinking it's junk.... BUT. I also think about it from my perspective as well. I would much rather get a handmade/thoughtful gift than something brand new. (Even though those gifts are great too) I do think it's rarer for people to actually put time and effort into creating gifts instead of just buying something and that's precious to me.

my best friend made me a little clay plate for my birthday last year. Its now a little cracked and bumpy but I don’t care. When I look at it I just think about the time she spent making it and it reminds me that she cares about me. I keep it on display and use it for small sewing supplies, like sewing machine feet and my seam ripper.
I also make handmade gifts, and I do worry that I could always do better, but as I’ve seen something you made yourself will be appreciated more than just something bought quickly in a store.

Realy love your ideas, I'm definittly going to try the planter one :) i finally found really cool wool-free sock yarn, so everyone of my three sisters gets a pair of hand knitted socks. I choose different patterns for each of them but the colourway is the same. And for my best friend I made a tapestry crochet of a tooth with the text "Rooting for you" because we both love puns and she passed her final exams and is now a dentist
I would love receiving DIY gifts, so much thought and care put into an item and it’s completely unique

As somone who makes gifts, I do worry, but I have a rule of thumb, if its done to a standard, and is something that Id love and enjoy, I think the recipient will love and enjoy it as well ~

All of the gifts are great, I want to paint a planter and monogram a sweater now! This year I made a fabric plant to gift in a small planter I bought.
Yes, I always think my handmade gifts end up in the trash. but my storebought gifts probably end up there too.

I loved all your makes! I am a maker and therefore I understand the thought and effort that is involved in handmade gifts. I like getting them because the person is fulfilling their artistic inclinations while thinking of me. This sort of gift feels validating to what I value too. There are folks out there that have not liked my DYI gifts. (those sorts of people never get another one from me😉)Either they have no idea of the skill and effort involved or they just don't understand why one would make something when you can buy something "better" from the store. some people actually think you are to cheep to spend money on them.
Haha my dad asked me a few years back to stop giving him handmade gifts... so I switched to handmade edible gifts, cause it's still personal but you don't have to keep it 😅
I love receiving handmade presents and cards though!! I made stamps and stamped Christmas cards for my family this year
i made my friend a taylor swift sweatshirt in his style (distressed, bit more grunge and edgy) and he loved it sm!
As someone who works at gsk and will probably get that jacket at some point during my time there, I now know what im doing with it lol

I also love making gifts for people! I got a plain notebook for my mom and decorated it with paint markers. It's now a garden journal where she can keep track of what and where she plants everything in her garden.
Oh I am so bad at giving people me-made stuff, the second I sorta see it through their eyes, all I see are the flaws 😢

My family definitely does homemade gifts - my dad is a woodworker and makes all kinds of stuff for our gifts. Homemade food gifts are always a hit! (As long as you know the person's allergies or food tastes.) One year in highschool, before I had my own money to buy gifts, I made everyoen their own personal drawings with lots of colours and shading that I did in art class - I kinda cringe at them now, but my grandparents have theirs framed on the wall, so I guess they liked it!
I still worry about people not liking something that's handmade, but I love getting handmade gifts!

I have that fear a little bit when I make handmade gifts, but I love getting them! Since getting a full time job in the last couple years one of the things that I've really missed is having the time to make handmade gifts for holidays, but it's nice to get to come along on your craft journey. The bomber jacket turned out insanely amazing!

ooh if you want to make designs like that monogram look more professional, you could loop over it with thin thread in the other direction so it looks more like machine embroidery. takes a while though, and the handmade look is equally cute!

This year I cross-stitched the majority of my Christmas gifts, including two shirts for my brothers! For those I used free DMC patterns of a beetle and a hornet which are very beautiful and I'm very happy with them. Right now I'm worried about my dad's present, which is getting framed in a wooden hoop, and I was so concerned with staining and finishing the hoop that I didn't look up how to frame the cross stitch in it and it turns out you usually need either felt or hot glue and it's now the 23rd and I have neither of those...
Your embroidery is beautiful as always! I love celestial motifs and it was definitely the right move to fill out the jacket with little moons and stars. And the monogrammed sweater looks so fancy for how easy it was!

girl my jaw is on the floor, that embroidered jacket looks so good!! ok you've inspired me to dig out my abandoned embroidery projects while i hibernate this weekend. first order of business is to finish removing embroidery from an old jacket, i only got a third of the way through it before i gave up :') you are so right that shit is way harder than i ever expected
