  • [4K] Pirates in Batavia is an awesome new dark boat ride that opened July 28, 2020 at Europa Park in Germany. So do you think this Pirates ride is better than the ones at a Disneyland or other Disney Parks? Any similarity to Pirates of the Caribbean dark ride at Disneyland?
    "Prepare yourself for an exciting underground boat ride experience, which closely resembles its original design from 1987. for eight minutes, you will be taken through the exotic harbour city of Batavia - outlandish sounds and unforgettable sceneries, with 100 figures, will surely take your breath away!"

    Instead of showing the Caribbean, this ride is inspired by the Dutch going to Indonesia for its spices (E.g: Dutch East India Company). Really cool and unique take on the "pirates dark ride" concept!

      @DavidSusiloUnscripted 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      But there is absolutely nothing Indonesian in that ride. Batavia looked nothing like that. Those buildings have Spanish influence and most of the boats are of Chinese influence. The swamp is very United States influence.

      It’s a theme park not a history museum. What did you expect? A fully dedicated historically accurate representation of privateer life in the 1700s?

    • @DavidSusiloUnscripted
      @DavidSusiloUnscripted 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@henrylivingstone2971 when they actually use a specific city name (not a general area as Caribbean, or Asia, etc), yes I expect more authenticity. Even if it means just ONE element that fits the title. Instead, NONE of the elements fits Batavia (or south east asia, or even asia in general for that matter).

      Then you’re a fool for expecting that much from a theme park ride. They obviously named it that so it would be more familiar to a European park going public.
      And there are few though very tenuous details that can be interpreted as being inspired from historical source material. The village scene uses thatch huts that are similar to Toba Batak houses, used by the Batak people of northern Sumatra of Indonesia. Also there seems to be shields similar to that of the Sepik river tribe cultures in Papua New Guinea which is technically in Indonesia.
      Also how can you even tell what the ships look like? Most of them look sunk or merely shown on their broadside, there’s no telling whether it’s a Spanish galleon or a Dutch fluyt.
      Also what swamp? There’s no swamp, it’s obviously jungle and the continental US doesn’t have any tropical rainforests. There’s a temple with obvious allusions to Khmer architecture and strangely a reference to Balinese mythology, regardless there are many references to south East Asian cultures even if it is a mish mash.

      Also the Chinese man and ship is obviously a reference to the sino-Dutch conflicts common at the time. Considering the proximity to the Chinese mainland and European eagerness to access the Chinese market for silks and porcelain the prevalence of pirates around the south China seas was no doubt a common occurrence. There have been conflicts with both Chinese pirates and the Ming and later Qing dynasties against the Dutch east India company and later the Dutch protectorate.

    Absolutely an amazing ride and what's even more amazing is how quickly they put it together. For those that don't know the original ride burned to the ground 2 years ago and they did this all since then. Absolutely incredible work ethic.

You can literally see the owner of Europapark (who is also the owner of Mack Rides) as an animatronic. This animatronic was a gift from the kids of Mr Mack.

    this ride quiet amazing but as a Jakarta's citizen (Batavia now) this ride aren't accurate, so many misconception about Batavia in 14th-19th Century, there is no Budha temple around Batavia, and they put Mannequin using modern Betawinese outfit (native tribes of Batavia), and they put so many African element on many spot, which is wrong since Batavia are located in south east asia.

  • @thevincentgonzalesplan
    @thevincentgonzalesplan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    My honest opinion - It's very ornate and colorful, unique in theme, and lot of movement throughout the ride. Of course, the animatronics are SO much better at Disneyland, and the 1st (and only) drop is shorter and more like the 2nd drop at Disneyland. Also, the music/sounds are somewhat bland (no rousing "Yo Ho" song to connect the theme). Colors are great in the video. Cool SFX lighting at the end, but it doesn't really have any Punch to the end. Reverse Blue Bayou experience at the end seems anti-climactic compared to the "leaving the real world" effect of the original. Overall, seems like a pretty good knock-off, and being that Disneyland is in Paris and not Germany, it seems to be a close enough equivalent for Germany. Obviously, the Original is levels above this, but if this were the only one I could afford/travel to, it is quite impressive. Nice blend of Tiki Room/Adventureland at the beginning. Lastly, only about half the length time of the Original POTC.

    This ride was pretty terrific! It looks like a Pirates ride with a bit of Jungle Cruise and a little Indiana Jnes thrown in!! I only wish I could understand the language so I could follow the story. I think it is better than Disney's, in that it has more animatronics and actual sets that your ride vehicle passes by, while Disney is depending on more and more screens and fewer Imaginative sets and animatronics. Movies screens are cheap and easy to fix, so Disney is letting more and more screens dominate their rides. But I can sit at home and watch a movie on a screen------going to an expensive theme park to watch a movie is not appealing. I remember the old Pirates of the Caribbean ride from many years ago, and it it was fabulous, without the screens and without the movie tie ins, and long before they "updated" it. . It was a favorite of everyone's long before the movie existed. Disney would have no problem creating something like this ride pictured here, and make it even better, but they would rather stick to the cheap cop out. I applaud Europa park for going the extra mile to make an interesting ride that people will remember. Terrific video.

      Nah, no ripoff. It is themed to a journey to Asia by the Dutch, where they went to get spices. It has nothing to do with Pirates of the Caribbean

      I mean duh this ride opened in 2020. Those Disney rides are like decades old.

      It's not a ripoff when it's history. It's Indonesia.

      How is it a ripoff? Disney doesn’t own pirates

    The sets and lighting are gorgeous and very immersive.
    I couldn't tell you what the story was, except that it has to do with the Dutch exploitation of the East Indies. If I spoke Dutch, i would probably have a better sense of the story, however a good design wouldn't require that. You don't have to speak English to understand Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean.
    The peaceful languid music does nothing to contribute to the story either. It gives the feeling that you are taking a leisurely boat ride, in no danger. And its lacks a catchy tune.
    There were lots of animated characters throughout but too many had any sophisticeted motion and resembled department store mannequins. Most of the time I had no idea what their role in the story was either. Who are the pirates attacking? Why does no one feel threatened?
    The show has beautiful digital effects throughout. It borrows the fencing shadow pirates from POTC. Many of the mechanical effects, such as the cannonade attack were underwhelming.
    The costumes, especially in the Indonesian village set, were absolutely lovely.
    My rating:
    Sets A
    Lighting A
    Practical Effects C+
    Digital Effects A
    Music C
    Character animation B-
    Story D

      The park is bilingual German and French. There is no Dutch.

      To be fair, this ride opened in 2020 while the Disney Pirates opened In the 1960s. Of course there would be improvements technology wise.
