Happy Halloween! Love your Coverage of Star Wars. I really don’t know where Star Wars would be if Lucas hadn’t sold LucasFilm, But I feel confident in saying I don’t think Lucas would have as much content as Disney has created. There are so many more resources that Disney has, not that I agree entirely with what they have done, I do feel they have done a good job in the projects the have created, definitely entirely different direction than Lucas would have done. My Favorite would be The Ashoka Series and The Animated series they have done. I feel that most everything that Dave Filoni has hands on follows more of what Lucas would want.
Happy Halloween! What happens before Ben's fall is pretty much exactly what people "expected" from Luke. Mando meeting Luke in the series will probably lead to him helping Luke in some way, which will lead to Luke's story tying into TM&G movie. Then, there might be a lot or a little of Leia and Han... We probably won't see the big three onscreen together, except a short part about them discussing Ben's future while they're doing something, or it could be at Han and Leia's home. We'll essentially get both the big three onscreen together and a little bit of fan service either way. It'll probably help most fans see the sequels in a better light. It may not change how we see them until Dave's movie. The scene in Ben's hut is still obscured and ambiguous, but the third iteration hinted at something more. If it's what I think it is, that may change most people's perspective of the ST altogether. I can't say people will turn from hating it to loving it, but it will make more sense why Luke fled (to me, knowing he left his training to save his friends in ESB, may be part of it). It will show that Luke didn't think about, or try to kill Ben and why.
I'm a 65 year old fan and I had gripes about the prequels but the young folks in our family loved Anakin, Obi Wan, and Padme and clamored for toys and action figures for Christmas so that really brought me around. In this past decade though not a single ask for a Rey toy from the current crop of young ones, as anime titles and Marvel seemed to have won their interest. I think Disney are going to be waiting a long time for a generational redemptive flip on the sequel films.
I'm pretty satisfied with Disney Star Wars. There are things that I don't like at all: the sequels, The Acolyte, Andor. There are things that I like just fine: Ahsoka, The Bad Batch, Obi-wan Kenobi, Rogue One, Solo. There are things I like very very much: The Book of Boba Fett, Rebels. And there is one thing I love above all the others and that I put together with the original trilogy as the best Star Wars ever done: The Mandalorian. I love all of its three seasons. It captures the magic and spirit of Star Wars like any other show or movie of the Disney era. Even better than the prequels did, although I've always liked them. So, even if The Mandalorian were to be the only Star Wars from Disney I were ever to love, I'd be more than happy. Ps: if this drama about buttons and paper in Star Wars is the bone to pick with the creators of Skeleton Crew, I feel I'm in very good hands as a fan.
The thing about Star Wars today vs. yesterday is that George seemed to enjoy fan fiction, but Disney makes us pay for them. Andor is the only thing I found cerebral, and it seems Disney hates it. If they didn't, I have a hard time understanding why they didn't make more like it than the saccharine and thoughtless nonsense we are getting from them.
@ernstfrutphlinguhr2494 But, it wasn't devicive as it is today. There was freedom of discussion, where today, many of us have grown up and aren't so enticed by the empty veil that is DSW.
have REALLY been MISSING all the Spoilery details 😕😕😕 over the years since before Episode VI there have been friends that have some "knowledge" in the days & months before a New SW film & then series would be given to us. Lately the past couple have been very light on info. I Miss so much of that.
That's because they have no direction or overarching storylines like the Rebellion,Clone Wars ect. There's plenty of room for more story telling if people had imagination instead of profit margins.
At the time publicly Lucas always said he was done with Star Wars, the story was told after the 6 movies. Whenever he was interviewed I was given the impression that he wasn't going to do anything more with it, so with that as the background, I got excited when the Disney purchased was announced because as a fan you IMMEDIATELY knew that we were gonna get more. WHAT we got was unfortunately not as good as it COULD have been. I wish the story arc of Episode 7-8-9 had been fully decided on before they started filming and choosing directors so that it wouldn't have felt so disjointed.
Yes, Lucas said that. But he also started to gear up to make a Sequel trilogy. It was he that told Filoni to revive Maul for it, and got Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher into the project. We also know he wrote plot treatments that Iger admitted ignoring in his autobiography.
The ONLY canon instance of paper is the ancient Jedi books that were kept in the Ach-To tree. Until Dr. Persing, there were no eyeglasses. Until Ep1 there were no dental braces; to this day, that girl that was a friend of Anakin's is the only example of braces. Lucas told Carrie Fisher that SW doesn't have underwear. Bix Caleen showed us otherwise. Are there handshakes? I don't think so, unless there's some in the Sequel Trilogy that I can't remember. There are no toilet's in SW!!!! Woah.... Finance appears to be medieval. There's no paper money, no credit cards, no apparent digital transfers of any kind, and no crypto. SW is extremely stingy about referencing units of distance measurement. Commoners and people that don't hold office or military rank don't have any honorifics to use. There are no "Mr./Ms." variants in SW. We ranks and titles of nobility, but nothing else. While vehicular weapons often fire "fully auto" (like machine guns), SW canon doesn't feature any hand-held fully automatic weapons. Yeah, they show up in the video games, but those aren't canon. The list goes on an on. :)
I think standalone movies set in the Star Wars universe is the best way forward for Disney, rather than big story-arcs that require multiple seasons in a series or multiple consecutive films to tell them, because the chances of those shows getting derailed and falling into the ditch of cancellation is very high.
Unfortunately we do have an in movie time machine of sorts and if they would just pull the trigger on that we can see a alternate timeline instead of the sequel trilogy
I think any star wars is good star wars. I am old school saw the movie in the early 80s. Have always been a fan. The reason I say all Star wars is good star wars is because you never know what project is going to bring new fans to this universe. As terrible as a show as The Acolyte was, there are people who watched it, enjoyed in and became fans of the franchise because of it. I personally feel Disney has had way more hits than misses when it comes to bringing new fans to the Star Wars universe. Sure we had 3 mediocre movies with the sequels, but they opened the franchise to millions of new fans. Same with The Mandalorian, Grogu is the biggest hit character in the history of Star Wars "Baby Yoda" was everywhere and still is! Hes bigger than Ewoks were when I was a kid! Star Wars is a fantasy universe that is VAST! Doesn't matter where you start or what got you into it .... If you are a fan, you are cool in my book.
Its good but I wouldn’t say it’s excellent and exceptional because of shows like the acolyte and many others where the writing that fell short of the story they were trying to convey. There’s been only a few shows that I’m still excited for in the future. But yea I think the main issue is for many of the lackluster shows and movies the plot is lacking. Their is no inner conflict in these characters (which is their fear, that they have to overcome), their isn’t any motive other than to move the plot forward in many of these shows and movies. That’s not what people are looking for they come for escape from their mundane life. Yes by all means show the characters struggling but what’s behind that struggle that’s what us as the audience wants to see. All of the best shows and movies show this inner conflict within the main characters. Whether hero or villain. The difference being that the hero overcomes these issues to resolve his inner conflicts (as well as outside in some cases), as for villains they let their emotions get the best of them. They give into things like anger, fear, rage, hatred, etc. But it takes more than a simple tantrum to make a villain a villain. It takes trauma, stress, some kind of psychological issue, or other issue in order to shape him or her into what they later become. All villains don’t start as villains. All the best writers learn not just from their own mistakes but the mistakes of others around them. In terms of writing, dialogue, character, setting, etc. Back then it was much simpler in Hollywood to tell others what they were doing was wrong whether it was camerawork, writing, directing, Special Effects, etc. But nowadays people take offense to that very easily and just write a post about it and spread it all throughout social media. What makes an excellent writer is being able to handle criticism both good and bad. Whether or not it’s true helps us understand our audience better. Their viewpoints, and it’s fine if someone sees something one way and you another. When Force Awakens was happening I liked the direction they were heading with Rey because they were slowly building up her inner conflict of not knowing who she was, who her parents were, and so she was soul searching. It was great to see her balance her struggles with help from Finn and Luke. But when they took that away in the last Jedi and rise of skywalker it ruined the overall plot of the story. It’s not the actors false in that case it’s the writers. If the writers keep failing then it could be a number of things such as: one the director just lets everyone do what they want or it could be the writer is new and might not know all their is in terms of writing. Or maybe worse who knows. The point being that Disney needs to go back to their roots and prioritize story and writing like they used to. Because that is what helps to shape the rest of the story you’re trying to convey to the audience.
I think if George would have stayed at the helm. We would not have had the volume and selection of content. He seemed to keep StarWars closevto the chest and I fear The Mando. Andor. Visions Ahsoka would not have gotten made. We are getting content divorced from the creator. It's like a Land Rover made by Ford. Or a a Thanksgiving dinner bought from the deli at the grocery store.
I think there would still be a divide in the fandom had George kept the company, as you pointed out with the prequel series. I believe George would prefer quality over quantity, and I hope he would avoid the corporate trap of saying the bottom line is more important than pleasing the fans ... but money talks.
George Lucas could have done more Star Wars, but he actively choose not to, and instead passed his legacy to Disney for a lot of money. Without Disney, maybe another animated show and a live action series, but not likely more outside comics, books, and video games. Worse, imagine if Lucas had sold to Warner Brothers or Paramount-Viacom 😱 SONY, Amazon, and Apple are other condenders 🤔 Its not all been great with Disney, 4/5 films sucked, but the Disney+ shows have been great to decent, and would you want to trade them for maybe a live action series by George Lucas?
I completely forgot about Star Wars Underground. I was there at Celebration 3 when it was announced and followed it for some time. I remember the 50 scripts being ready. And there is a part of me who still wants that. 50 hours would be 2 broadcast seasons of a TV show (with a 2 hour pilot movie) think about what we could have gotten. In live action.
I had my share of nitpicks with the prequels. The only movie that I can't recall having at least one gripe with is The Empire Strikes Back. If I had to pick a gripe, it would probably be Han saying, "I know." Anyway, the gripes I had with the prequels were nowhere near enough to give George Lucas a bunch of guff over. I heard the backlash when it came out. I thought the reporting on how George was taking the criticism was a little overzealous. That being said, George bailed. Plain and simple. And, he should not be forgiven for that, considering how close he still is to the franchise. I loved every one of the first 7 movies. I have never read a single page of Star Wars. I only watched the movies and shows. Sometimes, it really feels like those that have read comics, books, etc, really disparage against those that haven't, like we're lesser of fans. That's not fair. At all. What George did, came off as thin-skinned to me. As I got older, I realized his pride was hurt. The internet would not have been kind to George, either. But, at least it would've eliminated one faction of the complainers, the "this isn't George Lucas's Star Wars" people.
Supposed Star Wars fans don't deserve any more content after all of their childish bad behavior. . They act worse than children and these are grown ass adults
generally speaking, I like that Disney purchased Lucas Films because I don't think George would have been able to create all the projects we've gotten out over the years. sure, maybe it would have been less content and it would have been his vision but people would have also still hated it for obscene reasons. the fan base is the base and will always be here, but the loud negative voices are always heard more, which is kind of whack.
If Lucas was still in control... it would be completely different - not any better or not any worse - just different. I think Lucas gets overthinking and needs perfection - which is good and bad - but I think there would be less Star Wars (and maybe Episode 9 would have been better). Disney has done some good stuff - but I feel they need to "flood the zone" with quantity to support Disney+'s for content - while half the time bending to the fandome's will and the other half making them crazy. But here's a question, where would Star Wars be streaming right now?!? The reality is: we have what we have - and the wait from ROTJ to PM was painful. I love Star Wars, and I love Star Trek, and Space 1999, and Marvel, and so many other SciFi universes - and the business of Streaming and Movies and Profits is killing the entire industry. Maybe if we could all take a step back... the problem with Star Wars is shared with all types of franchises: fluke onto a success and repeat it as often as you can until everyone screams "Enough". I'm not ready to scream just yet, but... I can feel it coming... BTW: I love your work
any new star wars movie, I will believe it when I see it happen. Disney has a way of canceling stuff, not making stuff and letting us down. I rather be let down than have another Rey movie.
I have no opinion on the purchase of LucasFilm. But I do genuinely enjoy all the Star Wars content. Do I think everything is perfect or great, no. Do I think there is some content that is not good, yes. But overall, I am happy with the quantity and general quality of it. Definitely some things could have been better. But that is all subjective.
Robert Meyer Burnett recently discussed one of GL's errors was that he didn't really want 'mature' material like Rogue One, Andor etc. And wanted to 'infantalise' SW, starting with Return of the Jedi. GL was really down with the tone of Empire - which was the best of the OT. So this notion that GL would have produced a better ST - I'm not sure of that. I'd like to see the Gilroys and Favreau take charge of SW.
I think Lucas Star Wars would have been different for sure. We wouldn’t have gotten shows like andor. So I think Disney has down some good but a lot bad.
They would just as pissed at George. That show looked like trash and committed the sin of having a new female Jedi survivor in it out of thin air. And his track record was 50/50 three amazing Star Wars movies and three barely watchable Star Wars
I'm more interesting see Jude Law's lightsaber in skeleton crew trailer 2 today or tomorrow. We could see new Sith lords of the knights of Ren in that series. Let's hope the new Jedi order movie will release on December 2025 and I really wish I was in that movie. I could be the son of Luke Skywalker. Maybe Eddie Redmayne would get his chance in the mandalorian trilogy or the new Jedi order trilogy.
Sometimes I feel sad that George sold it to Disney especially with who is in charge of Lucas films now. I can wish for different that he kept it for himself or in the family
George was inventing modern big-budget prestige television prior to Game of Thrones. He was doing it first. Underworld would have been amazing, it's the type of TV budgets that get approved now, they just sounded crazy at the time. They could still make Underworld, though no doubt the scripts have been raided for all the other shows and movies. George was always ahead of his time. Disney cancelled it for the same reason they immediately cancelled The Clone Wars. Because they had no idea what they'd bought or that there was a current fan base, and Bob Iger's idea of the franchise was fuzzy memories of 1983 and a soft reboot of A New Hope and bringing back Han Solo in his old costume. For an idea of the franchise would look like with George still around, well it would look like The Clone Wars, Rebels, Bad Batch, and a live-action TV show tying into those. George had Ronald D. Moore of Battlestar Galactica as the show runner, and many top tier prestige TV writers (which is why some of them were working on later TCW episodes - and helping TCW to win daytime Emmy awards). Don't fall into the trap of thinking George didn't know what he was doing. He always had a solid eye for talented collaborators and had amazing folks working on the franchise. We'd be much better off.
We would have had less Star Wars under Lucas, but it would have been better quality and more cohesive. Disney has been nothing but a money grab and Darth Kathy and her 'Force is Female" make it suck agenda.
Lucasfilm should be sold to people who actually understand and respect the galaxy. If Disney really wanted to be successful with Star Wars, they would have known they had a blockbuster trilogy that would have completed the Skywalker saga... and they would have delivered the original treatments for the sequel trilogy.
I think it's something you've picked up here...quality over quantity. However, if Disney didn't buy, we'd be waiting years for things. I've enjoyed everything because I don't expect perfection.
I really hope. The acolyte comes back. In some new TV series so that way we can be able to finish what it started. and that Ray Skywalker movie and the others come as well.
You could look at it like this ONE BAD APPLE CAN SPOIL THE WHOLE BUNCH... That is the opinion of many Star wars fans. If you take the last Jedi that really ruined the whole bunch. All but a couple apples out of an entire bushel, more salvage overall Star wars is a total loss with Disney and Kathleen Kennedy and woke writers who just want to use Star wars as a platform to shout out their woke ideology
It was a good thing for sure. Before Disney we barley got any content.16 years withoun anything and six movies in 28 years.Maybe everything is not great but most of it is and if you are one of these "fans" that only like the first six movies you are not really a fan, just someone who like some Star Wars...
each generation has their starwars.. there are original trilogy people, prequil people and new starwars people (probably less of them)... when TPM came i didnt care what it was.. it was starwars... and for the most part it was a good film. ... then AOTC came and well.. george shit the bed in some parts of this...mostly dialogue.... ROTs however remains my favorite sw movie. after the prequils we were bombarded with lots of starwars.. and a hope that it would not be the last. books by others who werent GL didnt really matter.. it didnt feel cannon.. after the disney acquisition TFA was a juggernaught.. leading to the scene we all wondered about... luke skywalker.. then the last jedi... well, Carries passing had profound implications and the movie just shouldnt have been part of this trilogy.
Thanks Meg I guess we will have to wait and see what happens in the show about weather or not the Force will be with them. And yes a Happy Halloween. 🍂🍁🍂🎃🍂
OK slow down on this one Jude. Disney Star Wars burned some Jedi books with a bolt of lightning. Oh, those must have been the remnants of The EU novels😆😆
Happy Halloween! 🎃 May the force be with you!
Happy Halloween! I'm glad you're covering the, _What if George kept *Star Wars*._ I can say he would've "done Luke dirty" to tell his story.

I believe George would prefer quality over quantity, and I hope he would avoid the corporate trap of saying the bottom line is more important than pleasing the fans ... but money talks.
Whether fans would think it’s good or not is entirely subjective. What isn’t subjective is that it would be *real* Lucasfilm Star Wars.
Don’t forget about the expanded EU that George licensed n then got pissed that fans loved Mara Jade
I had my share of nitpicks with the prequels. The only movie that I can't recall having at least one gripe with is The Empire Strikes Back. If I had to pick a gripe, it would probably be Han saying, "I know."
Anyway, the gripes I had with the prequels were nowhere near enough to give George Lucas a bunch of guff over.
BTW: I love your work
I can't imagine anyone topping a performance by Adam Driver.
New helmet, new merch!
Disney at its finest.
Ollie's is running out of space for the war toys.
I will agree with you Hayden Christensen always
clone palpy looks like Brain Guy from MSK3000
any new star wars movie, I will believe it when I see it happen. Disney has a way of canceling stuff, not making stuff and letting us down. I rather be let down than have another Rey movie.
Happy Halloween
Carrie is literally a legend, a one-of-kind we were lucky & blessed to have in Star Wars.
I'm telling you guys Jude Law's character isn't a Jedi, he is former Inquisitor who killed Jedi and took his name while defecting from empire.
Great success
I wonder what would have happened if Disney bought Lucasfilms this year instead of years ago?
Lucas could have waited about 5-7 years, and then created his own Lucasfilm streaming service.
Yes
George Lucas would not have made Andor. So there's that. I'm actually pretty surprised that Disney is.
Long, tossled hair? LOL! He made the right call. BTW, no one works as Ben Solo because Leia and Han's children are Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin.
Luke's son was named Ben in legend books.
Congratulations
We must stop being so shills for views. We must talk the truth...
Better content? YES! Hated by fans? YES! (Just not as much)
There would have been much less content but overall better content. Less is better in this case.
Very good work gang
ANOTHER Jedi that Survived Order 66? At this point it feels like more survived than died
Maybe
Me to definitely
Spot on
I do
Absolutely
Very good thinking actually
Me too absolutely
Well done
So do I absolutely
Lucas wouldn't have given us The Acolyte.
No, Adam Driver was perfect in his role. I can't picture Redmayne at all as Kylo.
Exactly
Of course
You could look at it like this
ONE BAD APPLE CAN SPOIL THE WHOLE BUNCH...
Definitely
That's a yes
Bad thing overall / Disney 👎
And that's a yes
It was a good thing for sure. Before Disney we barley got any content.16 years withoun anything and six movies in 28 years.Maybe everything is not great but most of it is and if you are one of these "fans" that only like the first six movies you are not really a fan, just someone who like some Star Wars...
SW has become a buffet, take what you like...leave the rest
So do I exactly
Me too exactly
Of course it does eventually
So did I exactly
There are hits and misses to be sure, but overall, I’ve had fan. And I saw the original in 1977.
Good job
And that's true forever
each generation has their starwars.. there are original trilogy people, prequil people and new starwars people (probably less of them)... when TPM came i didnt care what it was.. it was starwars... and for the most part it was a good film. ... then AOTC came and well.. george shit the bed in some parts of this...mostly dialogue....
Thanks Meg I guess we will have to wait and see what happens in the show about
weather or not the Force will be with them.
And yes a Happy Halloween. 🍂🍁🍂🎃🍂
OK slow down on this one Jude. Disney Star Wars burned some Jedi books with a bolt of lightning. Oh, those must have been the remnants of The EU novels😆😆
Yeah right mate
