  • Got an itchy pet? Dr. Judy interviews one of the veterinarian scientists from Kin-Kind over the subject of Itchy Pets and how to treat them. The top three reasons for itchy pets are given as well as pro tips of what to do to prevent fleas and ticks. The discussion then turns to problems with mites which are often overlooked. Other than a deficient diet and pests, some itches may be due to environmental allergens. Wiping our pets down after going outside may be the best way to help them during allergy season. Finding the right dog shampoo is also important to combat itchy pets. Essential oils are great to prevent flea and ticks from getting on our pets while other flea and tick products only kill the pests once they are on the pet. Also, Dr. Judy mentions that not all flea and tick products made for dogs are safe for cats and other pets.

My 3yr old Shih Tzu, Ruby, doesn't seem to have allergies, but she had a very strong, unpleasant sour smell to her saliva since the day we brought her home from the breeder, and her eyes teared a lot with the same smell. I tried a few things that her holistic vet gave me to try (have forgotten what they were) without much success. And I have always cleaned her face and eyes everyday. She did recommend giving her only bottled purified water, which did seem to help a bit, but not near enough. Ruby is a licker and we were having to clean ourselves off when she licked us because the smell was so strong. I stumbled on the idea of a teaspoon of greek yogurt in their food once or twice a day for this problem (I've always added a powdered probiotic to food already). But after nearly 3 years of dealing with this problem I have been shocked that the addition of one tsp. of the greek yogurt a day has completely done the trick. No more unpleasant smell. I even tested it to make sure it wasn't a fluke by going off the yogurt for a couple of weeks and the smell came back. And her eyes stay dry the majority of the time too. So I'm guessing this has changed her ph or something. This has worked for my little girl anyway.

Which probiotic do you give your dog?

@@marshak6459 I get it from my holistic vet. It's called Ther-Biotic Vital-10 Multi Species Probiotic in the powder form. It has to be kept refrigerated, so if you were to order online it should come in a cold pack.

Jessie is beautiful but I am biased! She is also called as far as color a black seal! I have had boxers all my life and my mother was a breeder and had many show boxers! I have a 9 year old black seal, reverse brindle boxer! ❤ you will never regret having a boxer!

I have been feeding my squirrels for almost 3 years pretty much daily. Prior to getting my pup, I earned the trust of a few squirrels and yeah, they are always scratching from flea's...I feel bad for them.

A vet recommends some brewer yeast to main meal. Apparently will promote healthy coat and prevent itchy condition.

I'm trying to figure out why veterinarian will let their cats outside? I haven't let my cats outside for 40 years because it's so dangerous for them

I would assume she knows the environment. She says she has chickens so I’ll bet there is predator protection in place. I’ve also seen a growing amount of ppl with larger outdoor enclosures.
I live in a city and agree my kitty will NEVER be going outside.

I can’t get by the fact that I heard that essential oils are poisonous to pets.
