I'm 70 years old. Born and raised in Chicago. To this day, 11/18 2022, Sandy Koufax is THE GREATEST PITCHER that I have ever laid eyes on!! GOD broke the mold when He made Sandy!!! 🤩😍🥰❤️❤️❤️
I'm a life-long, dyed in the wool, Giants fan. I couldn't stand Koufax when he was playing and beating my Giants. Yet, even then I knew that I was watching the greatest pitcher, ever. Now, at 70 years old, I still feel the same way!
I was there when Koufax vs. LeMaster took place in Atlanta. The Braves won, 2 to 1..Eddie Mathews hit a home run in the bottom of the ninth. Greatest game I ever saw.
It's funny how I used to pitch in LL and HS as a kid and I used to imitate Sandy Koufax....I obviously didn't have his success as I went on to have a long career in the airline industry.. .
From 1961 to 1966...after he learned to pitch...he was THE BEST!!! After an "at bat" in the 1963 WS....Mickey Mantle walked back to the dugout...threw his bat down...and said: "How are you supposed to hit that shit?". In '63...Koufax went 25-5. Yogi Berra said:" I can see how he won 25 games...what I don't understand is how he lost 5!".He was BRILLIANT!!! You younger fans have no idea....nobody pitching today can compare. In his last year...with the 27 wins...and 27 complete games with the bad arm....he had 11 shout outs. I'll take prime Koufax over all of them! 3 time Cy Young winner in 1963...1965...1966.(That's when they only had one winner for both leagues!). All 3 were unanimous!!! His WS era is 0.95....4 no hitters...a perfect game.....He's a class act!
27 complete games with a sore arm in his last season,I dont believe kershaw has that many lifetime complete games. So lucky to have seen him in 66 going head to head with jim bunning 11 innings each!!
Three great seasons out of 12 9 mediocre or below mediocre seasons where he was a waste the only reason why he had three great seasons and because of dodges won the pennant in the world series that's the only reason why he would have been on any other team he would have been enough thing Steve Carlton 127 games with a Phillies team in 1972 that we own one only fifty-nine games now that's impressive Tom seaver winning 25 games with a Mets team that 180 games that's impressive
I had no idea his last pain filled year was his best year in all his career pitching categories. Amazing. I am still a big baseball fan, but also follow performing arts. Last week the L.A. Philharmonic amazing superstar conductor Gustav Dudamel, an incredibly passionate Latino from S. America, was so into conducting intensely that he was gasping for breath and pale at the end of the first movement of the opening selection. I posted on the L.A. Philharmonic facebook page and mentioned Norm Sherry and Sandy Koufax, and how Maestro could do just as well if he'd throttle back a bit on the energy.......maybe save his health too so he might not have to retire early some year like Sandy did.
Koufax was so great and had such an aura that people in the NYC area where I grew up that swore off the Dodgers when they left Brooklyn became Dodger fans again. I wasn’t even born when he retired yet his name was mentioned above Seaver, Palmer, Carlton & even Gibson. Absolutely amazing⚾️
Watched him as a kid back in the 60s. Very few pitchers can match his five-year streak from 62-66; Maddux, Martinez, and Randy Johnson come to mind. The only minor caveat to Koufax's greatness is that he went 31-4 against expansion teams NY Mets and Houston Colt 45s.
Greatest pitchers at their peak (3+ years)? Gibson, Maddux, then Koufax. Honorable mention big Walter Johnson. But only one truly destroyed batters with incredible command, intelligence, and dominance over many of MLB’s greatest hitters. He was more than sensational, he was and is a legend.
Willie Stargell: "Trying to hit Sandy Koufax is like trying to drink coffee with a fork!" "The Left Arm of God" Best left-hander in baseball history! Whitey Herzog: "We need just two players to be competitve. Babe Ruth and Sandy Koufax." Gene Mauch: "Sandy threw what you'd call a 'radio' ball. You heard it, but you didn't see it."
True word said by Herzog. Babe Ruth was easily the greatest everyday player. So many incredible players but he stands alone above all. He'd be the best today if he played. Sandy Koufax has incredible competition. Seaver, Gibson, Spahn & many others. Not only was Koufax the most dominating, he'd be #1 pick of all pitchers in history if you'd pole every manager to pick if they needed just one win. And he did it on practically no rest and in the big games. Even more incredible is that Koufax tipped his pitches. The batter usually picked up what was coming and batters did not fear for their lives. Sandy didn't throw at hitters. He challenged them and they leaned in on him, unlike Clemons, Ryan & Gibson who were very willing to crack your head open. They drew fear with their head hunting. Like Ruth, he consistently rose to the occasion when it counted.
An oft-repeated quote from sportswriter Gordon Beard in 1977 sums up the legacy: “In New York, they named a candy bar [The Reggie Bar] after Reggie Jackson. Here in Baltimore, we name our children after Brooks Robinson.”
@@victorblock3421 if you’re talking Postseason sure, however he did only pitch 50 something innings in the postseason. Regular season it’s not even close. He had 5 incredible years and Kershaw has been dominate since 2009

Sandy Koufax was simply the all time best pitcher in the history of baseball. Let's go Dodgers 💙.
I'm a life-long, dyed in the wool, Giants fan. I couldn't stand Koufax when he was playing and beating my Giants. Yet, even then I knew that I was watching the greatest pitcher, ever. Now, at 70 years old, I still feel the same way!
We're about the same age. I'm a lifelong Dodgers fan. I feel the same way about Willie Mays.
I was there when Koufax vs. LeMaster took place in Atlanta. The Braves won, 2 to 1..Eddie Mathews hit a home run in the bottom of the ninth. Greatest game I ever saw.
I go back to that time. I'm a lifelong Cardinals fan, but Sandy, along with Gibson, are my two al-time favorite pitchers.
Those five years are the greatest peak years of any pitcher ever.
Koufax and Brooks Robinson are why I became a baseball fan
OMG You nailed it! Brooks has been my hero since I was 8 years old!!!
I finally met Brooks at age 56 and he 78 at the Dug Out Zone in Elliott City MD. What a fine humble gentlemen! He is everything people say about him.
Sandy Koufax Mr no hit pitcher
my eldest childs middle name is Brooks my youngest son first name is Ryan. Naming a child either Sandy or Koufax is like Naming your child God

As a youngster they used to show us films on Saturday morning at the Quincy YMCA. I was amazed the first time I saw Sandy WIND-UP!!!
Sandy was to the Dodgers legacy what zoom Brown meant to the Cleveland. They were both the greatest in their sports.
Thank you Sandy

I just picked up a 64' venezuelan topps koufax this makes it even better
You can make an argument that sandy Koufax was the greatest pitcher ever and he put up huge numbers with a lot of injuries

Charlie Steiner did a very adequate voice for this.
Imagine if "Tommy John Surgery" existed before Koufax. Sandy probably would have extended his career.
It’s about time they have a Koufax statue! This scared me a minute because I thought he’d passed away. 😳
It is time for two more status. One The late Walter Oston.the Dodgers Mgt. And the lare Tommy Davis.
I can’t believe there isn’t one for Tommy already.

The age old question... Kershaw or Koufax?
Koufax...without question...
Not close. You needed to win game 7, who do you pick to put out there on the mound?
Kershaw good, but you can't put him in the same sentence as Koufax.
srly?
Koufax, compare post-season eras.
