  • Attention: Exploring Abandoned Anything can be dangerous. I don't encourage anyone to enter any Abandoned structure. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal and when possible, i seek out permission from the owner or local police. I simply go to document its history before it's gone forever and leave things the way I find them. I only take pictures a only leave footprints. I assume all the risks & responsibility before doing this. Please don't attempt to do this on your own. Their could be nails, soft floors, animals or other hazards. Thanks for Watching

4:40 The wood was used as support to form the wet cement. Builders used the same technique, back in the day, to pour fireplace hearths in houses in the northeast. You can see the wood forms when you go into the basements of older homes.

@midnitesquirldog1 Really!? Cause the reason they arent is because cleared drains isnt a big money maker. in capitalism things only get done when there's considerable profit in doing so. Want to fix our cities, change how we manage resources and re-evaluate the way's in which we solve such problems, seems to me like drains are a technical city system problem that could largely be managed with a combination of better engineering, automated preventative maintenance, and volunteer work for keeping things functioning and making iterative improvements to design and automation. But most people are too busy pushing meaningless paper to maximize market efficiency to be bothered about street drains or solving real problems at all.... problems like people still living in poverty in a technologically advanced society that can produce 100x more with 100x less resources/labor... but ya. just blame the dems... ffs, all political parties are symptoms of the same fucky economic system that causes even the simplest things like drains to go unmanaged.
People really need to quit giving an economic system designed before the industrial revolution a pass...and realize the rise in technological innovation and scientific understanding in JUST the last 100 years has turned the labor-for-survival market economy on its head. We need to start over.

The low dams are called Weirs( pronounced we-ers) in the UK. Usually slow the flow of water down to divert it towards a wheel or turbine.

It does not look like just a mill site given all the other structures. Looks more like a factory that needed water. The wier is too low and there isn't enough water to turn any big waterwheel. Would be interesting too look up the local history of that area...

This is a sad story of a poor paper mill that burnt to the ground. The fire department was quick to respond but they used the river as their source of water to put the blaze out. The paper from the factory was be thrown in the air and falling everywhere, including the river, and clogging the inlets of the water pumps. Unfortunately they were not able to save the mill and a huge chimney stood as a reminder for years of what was lost. A few years back they finally tore down the chimney and what was shown in the video is all that is left.

I wonder what the difference in the process is with concrete then, vs. now? Cheaper and easy to get minerals is all I can think of. They might do that so people can have maintenance jobs as well. If you have immortal concrete, there's really no need for them.

This old concrete probably lasts so long because they used all kind of material you aren't allowed to use anymore, for example aspetos which improves stability and fire resistance a lot, one of the best building materials and a common fiber to mix into concrete back in the old days.
