Here is another good setup scenario- if you have some outboard gear- in my case I do- hardware reverbs and other processing. Use fx out-Jack -mono send-disable internal effects- fx out Jack goes to your headphones distribution amp- I use a beringhear-and use a hardware reverb for it for talent-then I use Mon-1 and 2- sends to feed a stereo hardware effect chain in my case I run in series to a compressor-a saturation and widening unit and then into an aphex model 204-and return the stereo feed to channel 19/20-set to live input for a parallel type mix. For my hardware reverb send I use the ‘sub-out’ on a per channel need-engage it on any track you want hardware reverb-it sends to the stereo sub out fader and jacks-I use the Bluetooth channel as the reverb return. Any Mix of verb to dry can be done on the reverb unit itself. In my case I have 3 hardware reverbs- I run the stereo out to (2) passive splitters 2 in 4 out by galaxy audio-39 bucks each-then feed each hardware reverbs inputs separately-at the split- the re combine them to stereo for the return to Tascam using a Radial KeyLargo keyboard mixer-this way you have control of each reverbs volume- to create a dense exciting multiple reverb stereo return or turn any of them out of the mix. To taste, It only eats up 2 stereo returns leaving 18 open tracks 12 mono-3 stereo-which in a traditional situation w/ perhaps some ‘bouncing of tracks’ should be plenty. Hell most hit records pre 1980 were 16 to 24 tracks period-and 8 track in the early 70’s and backwards. Any outboard gear can be used-it’s the -routing- I have that makes the Tascam Model 24 in my case very usable and flexible as a standalone mix-record setup- In my case I have an RME BabyFace Pro FS-interface and an iPad Pro-I run my Mains Outs to the BabyFace as my two track master mix recorder so I do all final mastering inside an pad daw-I use Auria Pro with some plugins for sweetening as needed-if needed-and then export via audio share app to Postive Grids Final Touch App. Then save that mix in my desired format via that app.
4:15 - I cannot get this to work! " TO MON 1/TO MON 2 knobs" don't do anything for me. Can you help me trouble shoot? I tried to copy what you did in the video... but I do not get the internal effects coming through Mon 1, Mon 2.
Kind of got it to work by adding some Aux 3 on the return track. Its a weird setup to me, not sure I would ever bother to try to dip Aux 1 or 2 into the internal effects... unless I guess I was trying to give some reverb to a head phone amp.
@@MikeFoerster Good idea! Will do at first opportunity. I kinda of have it working but showing you what Im doing will be confirmation if I have it right or wrong.
I understand the internal FX, but what external FX are you using. Starting at 1:12 - back in 23/24? But then you say coming back on 19? (confused) But my big question: at 1:20 - what are the sources of these slapback and reverb FX? Do you have outboard? So, are you patching the monitor 1 output to an *external* slapback, monitor 2 to an *external* reverb, and then out the FX to combine into stereo channels 23/24? or 19? Sorry, I'm confused about your routing. Thanks!
Ok. So let me see if I can explain. Yes, I have an external reverb / effects processer in my rack. It's a TC Electronics system, it has two channels in and the goes out in stereo. That is how I was able to put two different effects but have them go back into 19/20. On the Model 24, tracks 23/24 are the main tracks. And yes on Monitor 1 and 2, I had them going into the two separate tracks which converge into a stereo track back into the system. I hope this helps you out.
@@MikeFoerster Thanks, got it! I'm considering getting the M24 and running FX through the monitor outs to channels for mixing, so this is very helpful. Appreciate your videos!
Thank u so much Mate, I appreciate it. Love the Effects from the Model 24 and thought about 2 buy another interface, 2 go from the Model 24 right into a second one!@@MikeFoerster
Quick question could I run my full mix out of the sub out. Into my anolog masterchain back into channels 12 and 13 then send 12 and 13 to my master fader so I can mix it down?
Sure, assign the channels you want to go through the sub out to the sub out and then have it go back into 12 and 13 and assign 12 and 13 to master. I should try this before giving you the green light, but I'm sure it'll work. I'll check it this weekend when I have a chance.
@@MikeFoerster sweet I was just wondering before I buy my buss compressor for my set up. Thanks bro appreciate your channel and tips your videos are the best ones I have found on TH-cam regarding this mixer
I think you can add a 4th effect by sending that channel to Sub and adding another effect there for a total of 3 external effects plus the internal effects.
@@MikeFoerster have you ever done it with a compressor or EQ ? When I try to do that I get latency issues and I hear phasing when the effect blends with the original track.
@@MikeFoerster man I’d love to see a video of you doing that. The travel time between the devices always causes me latency. I wonder what I’m doing wrong
Yes, the names are different but they are in the top right corner, between the MAIN XLR output and control room outputs. You can use the MON 1, MON 2 and FX outputs there.
@@MikeFoerster Thank you. I have used a trs y cable out of them and I only get signal on one channel. (On the stereo effects device I am plugging into)
