Thanks, I didn’t know about the old Pacific Hotel. Feel welcome to share other interesting information about Hastings. I’d love to know more about it 🙂
Yes, a lot has changed in Auckland and New Zealand in the last few years. There are much fewer people on the streets, fewer tourists. Greetings from Auckland! 🙂
The people that subsist here now never created or financed this town ,it’s parks or Municipal theatre,Rush Munro’s,the churches. Unfortunately the positivity of Greater Hastings,J Wattie Canneries,Growers,as independent exporters, the two big meat processors have gone from Hastings leaving no bright plans for the development of value added industries or better incomes for demoralised citizens. Even the refuge of the manual worker the local pubs have been shut down and repurposed.Sad,But NZ is full of towns with the same story. Still if you travel north in the island you may find towns that have doubled their populations in less than ten years. With more AI and failing tourism it makes one wonder what the future holds for the provincial cities without meaningful employment and the ability for an individual to advance.
I was living there for 5 months, what great memories of the cru bar

Those have been there for like over 50 years
The old Pacific Hotel was where Hallensteins is now. Wasn't a bad place a long time ago.
