    Bought PS3 Slim somewhere in 2010 and been playing it till i got married in 2013. the console unit and its accessories has been kept in the box for that long till today when my son now 9 discovered it and wanted to play it. the controller showing erratic behavior moving on its own. Your video saves it, what i did was cleaned up the contact points using contact cleaner and now it works!!. Thanks!

      Damn :) my dad has a simmilar story. He bought it before a few months he got married and he had me in 2010. We used to play it in 2016. I was a huge fan of this game called Lego marvel superheroes. After this we shifted from Dubai to India in 2017 in 2018 I rediscovered it. My dad bought me a new controller in 2021 and now here I am in 2024 tryna fix it :D

    You can replace the trigger springs in a PS3 controller with the spring found inside an old floppy disk, if you happen to have any of those lying around! I've done it before, and while it can be a tedious task, they work great! You will need to shorten them just a bit to the length of the original springs.

    Thanks alot for the amazing advice. Turning that little skinny piece of rubber was the true trick. I believe it wares itself flat and by flipping it over it allows for a better connection. My controller was pretty clean, I barely used it cause it was a new backup. So Flipped the rubber piece and it works like new!! Thanks again. You have made a long time Skyrim lover very happy!! Take care one and all. 👍😀

Turns out it's absolutely critical to the functionality of the pad. Have to say I'm not such a big fan of this design, would prefer it if it was on a PCB instead of this flimsy plastic strip, very fiddly to work with.

    • @RealQuickChris
      @RealQuickChris  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah stick drift is in the thumb stick and to do it correctly requires desoldering and soldering on a new thumb stick. You could get away with forcing the thumb stick housing open pulling out the contacts and cleaning everything up but you run the risk of cracking the solder connections or bending and breaking the thin metal of the contacts of the insert for the thumb stick.

      aside from cleaning the connection on the board and the ribbon cable, maybe just behind the buttons themselves. did you flip or replace that black foam piece? that thing needs to create pressure on the ribbon cable to the board for everything to work if it's worn out it could cause problems.

    Thing is,when I connect to ps3 it works perfectly, when I connect to pc it bugs the left stick, and guys its risky to open controllers this guy don't say this but old controllers the plastic is weakened by the time try to open let's say a 5yo controllers you might having problems and break stuff it happens and its normal specially with older ones so only if you positive that is a "hardware" cause if it is not you ended up like me,follow this guy's steps carefully and even being careful I broke an essential plastic frame so it is not good,I connect to see if it worked after cleaning and still the same problem

    4 any ps3 fan doing this. Depending on when or what dualsock you bought. Their insides will look different. The worse are the oldes one like from 2008 trust me, you don't want to get disassemble one of those. Edit This one in the vid is pretty close to it. Lil diference is that the battery is not plugged but solded cables. And the most mageous part being the plastic thing if it slips out of the bumper and trigger is a pain to put back on.

When I took the controller apart and plucked the sticks off the mechanisms, those worked like normal. But when I put the sticks back on, they were loose like before. I tried switching them around to no luck. Am I SOL and going to have to look into new mechanisms? My controller is a white Dualshock 3.

      Are you saying that the plastic part you put your thumb on is lose? And when you take the plastic thumb stick part off the real component that is soldered to the pc board is working well? I have had the plastic thumb stick part crack at the base where it goes on before and just replaced it with one on eBay for a few bucks. You could also use some glue if you want but I would use school glue something that is easy to take off if you have other issues in the future. Let me know if thats the problem or if I am misunderstanding it.

    I must take care of my original PS3 controllers so they last many more years because any replacements are crap knockoffs and are digital. I have a 4 piece model and a 2 piece model. Gran Turismo 5 wants analog controllers, which the original ps3 controllers are while ps4 and knockoffs will not work with the game.
    I cleaned both of my controllers and added some tape to the bottom of the foam part so there is a tighter connection. Worked like a charm and all clean. You can order new battery replacements on Amazon for $20. If you must, search ebay for refurbished original OEM PS3 controllers or motherboards.

    I recently bought a red PS3 controller from CEX that was having this problem but it was not to do with the analog sticks for me. mine only started happening everytime I press and hold the PS button or plug a charging cable into it. It goes haywire and starts moving everywhere on the XMB menu by itself sometimes entering my profile, trophies, the store, inbox messages and such by itself. I had no idea there was an actual name for this issue though. As much as I would like to attempt this I somehow doubt it'll help with my issue.

    (READ) if your planning on buying a PS3 controller. Go to amazon and don’t buy a used or official Sony controller. Always buy a third party one around 14-16 dollars. Don’t buy a 2 pack one either.

    L1 and r1 placement gavee greif. If you have trouble like i did, you place them after the pcb is fastened into the front plate. I kept mushing the rubber membrane by placing the l1 and r1 befote the pcb. Dont be me.

      Nothing special just a Phillips screw driver small enough to fit in there. Sometimes those plastic pry tools help to separate the controller as well.

    My controller is practically brand new and it just started having stick drift problems I bought my ps3 controller from a website because I couldn't find one in a store mine is the dual shock six axis controller one question though are these controllers supposed to be significantly lighter than the dual shock 4 ps4 controller mine is really light and the buttons seem cheap when you press them the box it came in looks legit and so dose the controller but for some reason I'm still thinking it's a fake clone
