No phones. No posers. No influencers. No social media.
You're commenting on a social media site. Fatboy Slim is technically a massive influencer. And I guess you've never used a phone in your entire life?
This set is the best example of how good life was without social media.
There is nothing social about social media.
I remember the opening song from a cd my friend burned me in the mid 2000s. Something awesome about a getting a new set on a CD for the next drive. Shit was awesome
rubbish.
I cant agree more if you watch recent videos of similar venues its beyond ridiculous. Im so glad there were no smart phones in the nineties
But your watching this on social media…
Listening to this in 2024 ! What a mix!
yeaaah
despite the mechanical/electronic aspect this is truly art and requires a great deal of musical talent
Vibes never get old
41 now. I was there. This will never be topped. Goosebumps watching this back.
i watch this often...this is one of the best moments ever, i wish i was there, but did see him at red rocks 90's, sooo good. its on you tube, him and chemical bros. man, glad you got to be there, must have been sooooo epic
No smartphones, no social media...and we didn't need them - all who were there will never forget this night for the rest of our lives. We lived in the moment, for that moment...
the most insane night ever , i still rememeber walking the beach all night chatting with strangers around campfires and sleeping on the train home the next morning . amazing night .
I was 18, one of the best days of my life I think looking back. Nothing but fun, laughs, great music, good vibes with my best friends. We drove to Brighton from Essex at 4 am and luckily had a place to crash the night. This vid just makes me grin from ear to ear and I feel so lucky to be able to say "I was there" My dad had Live Aid, I have the BBB2002
And Vinyl…😃
social media has pretty much ruined the friggin' world.
And eckies
The clothing. The fashion. The sunglasses. The hairstyles. This is a time capsule.
The lack of bloody phones!
The lack of bloody phones!

No fake eyelashes, no botox, no lip fillers, no phones, everybody enjoying themselves...the way it was meant to be😍
Indeed.
The days when you were not able to stalk influencers and get your head filled with BS fashion advice .
No social media to numb your brain.

The cultural significance of this is profound. As someone in their mid-20s now trying to experience a fraction of this freedom and innocence, it brings me such joy to simply watch this.

It just wasn't put on social media... it was not "free and innocent".
I weep for them! ..... Everyone at this gig were connected in the moment! 🖐️👊❤️💃🕺
@@DamnBig6 I'm sorry you're having a shit time in your 20's mate but honestly it's so easy to experience stuff like this every summer. You just clearly don't go the right events. Come to Secret Dreams at Legend Valley in Ohio.. In July. You'll get this. Not the same style of music, but definitely freedom to do whatever you want as long as it doesn't hurt anyone

It was a record breaking night.
For good reason! 😊
I am from Brazil. In the year 2004, a TV channel showed this show on New Year's Eve, I was alone at home and I was 12 years old. Since then my life has never been the same, musically speaking. greetings.

Misma historia solo que en un canal donde las 24 h repetian conciertos, transmitian opera, bandas de rock, etc, y me toco la buena suerte de toparme con esta obra, me cambió por completo
great story
I was there. The traffic on the A23 was backed up to Handcross. Me and my workmate took the back roads back to Shoreham. Train to Brighton. Did all the backstreets to the beach to avoid the travelling crowds and had one of the most memorable nights ever!!! The atmosphere was just full blown summer joy!!! There’ll never be a night like it. Walked home on such a massive buzz. Thank fuck for this film!!!!
Yep, remember the traffic was stacked up for miles on the A23 and it was a scorching day. Cars overheating left right and centre, but we somehow made it to Brighton beach!
I was in that traffic in the back of my mates car. Crawled at 10mph the whole way from Crawley to Brighton. Me and the boys were rackin up lines of coke on the parcel shelf and sniffin all the way there 😂
That’s absolutely crazy Ade. I live in crawley and often do the brighton run on my motorbike down the A23 … cannot comprehend that many cars!! Shame I’m too young to have been there, looks like you had a awesome day

Dancing and smoking. Terrible
Because there weren’t many phones back then
@@williambirch-james78 Watching the Brighton Beach docu on Sky, *someone* had a camera phone that they used the night after… although the camera was terrible, mind you, and it probably had like 500mb of storage so there’d be no point filming the thing.
…Which is a crying shame. You can’t get a good vibe of the crowd in 12 different jumpcuts a minute. Are there any good bootlegs from within the crowd out there?
As someone who dj'ed and did a lot of clubbing during this time period, i must say the track selection is impeccable and timeless. You could play this entire set nowadays at a festival/club and it would be amazing!
Can confirm I’ve heard similar vibes at a festival and it was unreal 🥳💃🪩

My parents got married on this day, the reception was at a hotel overlooking Brighton beach, I was too young (11) to fully appreciate the magic of it at the time but I remember it being a crazy scene.
Bro, If I got married at that hotel I would have ditched my ceremony and brought everyone to the street to jam!
Oh if only I'd been at this party. 250k people having a bloody good time, no phones, no selfies, no filming the whole set on your phone....take me back to these times!!
Amen. Been a trance-house head for 25 years. I miss these days

Oh yes 👍
FBoy Slim proves it’s not the technique, it’s the playlist. No pride, no chip on the shoulder, just make everyone have fun! I’m 5 years too young for the opportunity to attend this one, but there are no events like these anymore. It’s either a pill or you have no business being there.
There were some gigs reminding me of this one when I was a loose 20 years old lad, with SHM, etc. And it all went away by the time I was 28, and I mean these “everyone can enjoy it” kind of events, like SHM etc. I saw FBS once more in MonteNegro after exit, he totally caved to the pilled up crowd with electro and techno, I almost cried.
These performances were The Rolling Stones of our time, and it was just plain f’n fun, for literally everyone. And right now that’s sold as a bad thing.
I know there are people in the comment section seeing what I’m seeing.
Like I am now at Glastonbury

I had moved to Brighton to be with a girl. Living in the city just a few months when this happened. We went to the sea front around 1pm and were right near the front. We could feel how epic this was going to be as the crowds just went on as far as the eye could see. It was one of those beautiful golden sunset days in England, we don't get many. When Norman came out the whole city just erupted in a frenzy. The next morning there were people sleeping in the streets, rubbish billowing down every road. It was party carnage. In reference to western culture and coming from a westerner, it's hard to comprehend how things have changed. This time capsule brings a lot of thoughts to mind and there is a lot to unpack, such as the lack of police/power enforcement, heterogeneous in fashion/dance styles; I think the most common thought that comes to my mind is how free people appear relative to people being the robots we see today

This is really making me miss the days of going into the club, posting up next to the DJ booth, and watching the DJ work their magic and digging through crates for the perfect record for the next track. I certainly appreciate the new technologies that have come since then (first with CDJs and now controllers), but there was something so pure about vinyl sets.
Most of the dj’s I see when I go raving are on vinyls,it is what makes me appreciate the music so much more, seeing the talent, skill, knowledge they have is crazy and there are some very good selectors out there still
I remember a warm day then a freezing night, we couldn’t get on the beach we were up on the promenade which gave a great view.
When he played Groove Armada Superstylin, anyone who was sitting down suddenly jumped up and the beach suddenly resembled a Mexican wave the way the bodies moved.
I remember “GO WITH THE FLOW OF THE CROWD” on repeat at the end, and walking to the train station to find all the trains were off due to overcrowding.
Then sleeping on a strangers floor and heading back to London in the morning.

I would have loved to be there but I was born in 91’ and in the U.S. Also, seeing Simon Pegg at 49:13 is full circle for me. When I was in high school, I randomly stumbled on his show Spaced and became obsessed. Without that show I would have never heard Let Me Show You which guided me into a rabbit hole of all things techno and beyond. I remember going on Limewire 😅😬 and downloading so much music that I never knew existed and burning them on CDs. (I also heard Prefab Sprout on that show which is now one of my favorite bands).
Thank you Simon Pegg and Fatboy Slim!
Not a smartphone in sight, jus the odd huge digital camera, beautiful!
There's something special about every era in time, especially when it comes to music. In ten years I'll look back at shows I went to in the late 2010's and early to mid 2020's with nostalgia and a longing for a time gone by. It'll never be the same again, so just be right here, right now.

I was born in 2001. It's crazy this happened in 2002.
Music has changed so drastically over the years but this funky, easy, AWESOME vibe this music brings, combined with the people dancing, no phones and social media is just Incredible. Just having the time of their lives. Nothing compared to the "rave scene" these days. I'm 22 years old and I listen to Björk, Hendrix, Erykah Badu, Billy Cobham and other "vintage" genres. (Especially dnd, jungle, funk..)
I think It's rare to to find people my age listen to this kind of genres. But the most important thing is that we all like music and the vibe that brings us together! No matter what...
Love to y'all

And what a groyne is :-P
So nice to see people enjoying and experiencing the moment instead of holding up a cell phone. Events like this should be EXPERIENCED in the moment, not missed because you are holding a phone and watching a small screen!
Get over yourself. We had mobile phones and digital cameras

Brother Cook. The joy I feel listening to this brings tears to my soul! It’s a searing reminder to live!!!
It's gone now you dont get this anymore unfortunately
This is one of the reasons I learned to DJ! Nothing will ever be like this again unfortunately.
Never went but my sister and her friends did. I stayed at home and watched it on the telly. But it's great to watch again. Takes me back, 1998 to 2006 were my best days. Music and the nightclubs were amazing back then. Was lucky enough to be able to DJ from 2003 to 2016. Was hard to keep on with it all when I started a family.
Funny, I grew out of night clubbing 1984, saw the housematins twice back then, great to follow him and all the rest since. Moved to Canada 1990 so first time a view.
I was there at 19yo! absolute carnage. There was no way to get home, pretty much riots at the train station. Wandering around and some locals took us in (me and my gf) just great decent people. Up the Seagulls forever. What a time to be alive
I remember setting my vhs to record this while I was there hoping it would actually record!!
Peace love unity , how did we get so lost
Yeah totally, that long lost paradise of 2002. Right after 9/11 and the U.S. was spending trillions to bomb the Middle East.
All waxx , All vinyl live and direct 🔥🔥🔥🙌 And the massive crowd no phones no standing around posing just having a blast raving. What a legendary set from the legend himself.😎
The music wasnt my bag (still isnt) but watching it back just now I got all warm and fuzzy to see a box of records and x2 1210s.
And that crowd all in the moment!
Ah the old trusty 'no phones at raves' comment. If phones were common back then people would be the same as today. Paul - DJ since 1997
@@straightouttacornwall but they werent.
@@rleriche5044 No one was carrying a gramophone either
No phones, no standing around just a ton of MDMA lol
This was the day Ibiza came to England. Probably the best gig that this country has ever seen. Blazing hot sunshine all day and party goers from everywhere in the country.
Remains to this day, the best day out I ever had. Mad to think this was over 20 years ago. Was 3 days after my 20th birthday
Looks super insane , Norman cooks a legend 🤘
Wow great music 🔥 we love it ! 💓💓😎😎
Thankfully I was lucky enough to be present for this awesome event. I'll never forget how amazing is was, seeing numptis hanging off of street lights simply lovin' the vibe was the next level. Not a mobile phone in sight, the days of proper partying.
You are so lucky! 💯💯
I was late teens in 2002 so saw some great DJ's and venues in other genres over the years when everything was at it's peak still, but I cannot imagine being at this gig, must've been epic!
Makes me so nostalgic for the way the music scenes used to be. I know there is good music being made still and emerging genres and new artists in house etc, just sad that they don't have the venues and stuff to to play in like those that went before.
@@Kompoismagreed. I started partying in 2000 at age 19…got out of the scene years ago. Recently got back into it and went to EDCO 2023 and it was a blast. I’m a trance head and sadly, trance is mostly dead (you could argue that actually happened back in mid 2000s) but man is House music making a huge comeback. Tech house is amazingly fun to dance to live. Dom Dolla is an old school type DJ. Doesn’t talk hardly ever, his mixes are solid and track selection is on point. Cheers
One of the most memorable days of my life. The build up to this event was monumental. It had been a long and cold winter and this Saturday marked the first warm day in many months. Diggers and Midi General warming up and a period of all-time classic tunes produced collided to make it a concert that will be talked about for many more decades. ❤❤
It was end of July!
@@straightouttacornwallend of July is when the cold season ends in Britain. It starts beginning of August btw.
@@JohnSmith-iu8cj I think you're both on drugs lol
I went to this event and it was awful. It was supposed to be for 10,000 people yet 500,000 turned up. Everywhere sold out of drink, couldn't get into any of the clubs and 90% of the crowd couldn't hear a thing as they were soo far from the music. Other than the weather it was the worst day out ever!
It then took me 12 hours to get home
Did you spot yourself😂
@@straightouttacornwall You weren't actually there, it seems. if only you had been...
I was there that legendary evening. Groove Armada warmed up and the party was cur off when the tide came in. Unforgettable evening.
How many of the crowd are still alive today ❤❤❤❤
There be rocking away to this in there care homes.....😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks for officialy posting this fatboy slim. This is possibly one of the biggest livesets that anyone have ever done. With hundred of thousand of people joining together to party through the sunset. This set is officially history in techno culture for years to come
It's house music. Some tech house I suppose.
Techno?
Damn, back then it really felt like the UK was the centre of the universe.
We need something like this again now !!!
I was backpacking around the UK that summer and this turnout was all over the UK news. People knew it was legendary the day after. That massive crowd was not expected.
yep, 60,000 were expected and a quarter of a million showed up lol
overcrowding is usual after free galas
This video is further evidence of how much cellphones suck. Live and dance in the moment. What a party!
a moment in time!
It makes me happy seeing this many people vibing in one place
I don’t want to be that guy but… it was the time when chaining two records meant something 🤩
And the track selection
Acting as if things like Boilerroom don't exist, plus the fact that Norman is still out there raving.
tbh this mix isn’t all that technically good. Yes, he kept the tempo but he wasn’t blending the tracks at all but this still turned out great because of great track selection
You are that guy
No one has ever loved a party more than us Brits FACT
And we go to Ibiza and party There ❤
