Bad take. Colnago has always been about experimentation and innovation. It's only recently in the early 00s that they became a "heritage brand" that cashed in on nostalgia. Now they are getting back to their roots, which is performance and experimental designs.

Maybe you're right! I actually am newish to the sport so don't really understand the pedigree and history behind the brand. I guess the new styles frames etc are all personal taste?

@@sarahannegan4605 yeah for the record I also think the new colnago is ugly. But i also think some of the crazy colnago frames from the 80s were ugly too. Thats part of their tradition!

You are absolutely right and many other get this wrong. For example Colnago was at the forefront of carbon with its collaboration with Ferrari. I think they where the first with carbon bikes in Paris-Roubaix and winning it and experimented with hydraulic brakes at a time this wasn't even a thing in MTB.
And when you watch interviews with Ernesto Colnago it seems that he is very proud of all this achievements.
If it was a good thing selling the brand is a matter of debate but a bike like the new aero one is something witch is absolutely in the DNA of Colnago.

There are still good classic bikes in the line up of Colnago. The C68 (with the amazing one in Titanium) , SteelNovo and even a retro one named Master....So I don't know why the hate??!! The thing that is wrong is that I don't have $$$ to buy one 🤣🤣🤣

Bad take. BTW: Colnago didn't personally sign the bikes. his signature was stenciled onto the frames in the paint. It is true however that after the C64 and the V3rs, his signature was no longer placed on the bikes signifying the ownership change of the company. I have a large collection of Colnagos, which I ride and race, and the new Y1rs is in keeping with the tradition of the company in it's innovative ideas. The C40 was a huge step forward, in its day and it had many doubters within the pro peloton. Those fears were all laid to rest after Mapie's domination of Classic races such as Paris Roubaix. The Y1rs is a big step forward in innovation as well. What I don't personally care for is the limited addition boutique bikes that they are selling to collectors at silly prices such as the Steelnovo, limited addition paint jobs for too much money, and most certainly the the stupid non-existent block chain thing they sold a couple of years ago. It's not the same company, ownership-wise, but I don't think they have completely lost their focus. They are clearly focused on the very top-end market, but that is where the money is. Plenty of other manufacturers are struggling now because they are not able to define themselves from others. Colnago is by contrast, a brand that is thriving, though not exactly in the way they did so in the 80's and 90's, which arguably would not be sustainable in the modern age. Their race bikes are still great to ride, but they have been trailing the competition in aerodynamics. The Y1rs is designed specifically to address this issue, and I personally think they hit a home run with this one.

thank you for taking the time to comment all this information. I probably should have said at the beginning of the question that I know little about the brand and its history. If you’re only riding 500 miles in 3.5 mths than maybe a slow leak isn’t too much pain. That’s probably lucky to be one ride a week (or less) so the hassle of pumping your tyres once a week isn’t big. You’d be doing that anyway. The concern as mentioned is if you’ve lost more than 20% during the ride. That can be dangerous at the back end of the ride as the handling of the bike changes noticeably, turn in on corners, deformation of the tyre can lead you to run wide. Braking is affected. So depends how slow the leak isn’t…

  • @pipoann

Colnago is now a tool in the UAE marketing machine, it’s the glam bike that Pog rides. They are not even trying to sell the Y1RS, because that’s not really the objective here. See also the Steelnovo - another prestige object - they are not making money on this. Colnago is now all branding in the service of UAE. I am sure the Y1RS is a great bike btw.
Also Bianchi is still in the World Tour.

I think most of the top end bikes are relatively close in terms of quality and for us non elite pro riders we should focus on becoming better riders before ever considering spending 15000 dollars or however much they cost. Realistically most of us stand to gain far more from proper training, nutrition and sleep then we do from the newest aero bike

Colnago are about making the fastest bike, and yes people do care about aero even it might not be useful for them. Oh and quiet tip: the V5rS will be out in May, so UAE won’t be on the Y1 all season, in fact, many might opt to stay on the v4 until then. Just FYI

How to slow your bike down?
I presume you want to do that so you don't have to be in z1 to ride with your mate who just started cycling.
The answer is aluminium wheels + schawlbe marathon at low tire pressure and widest tire width that would fit your bike.
You could be doing 200w at 30km/h with this setup.

Colnago is the most overhyped, overrated bike brand in history. At no point in history was their bike the fastest, most comfortable or best performance bikes available. But you have to hand it to their marketing team for creating a perceived elite brand. But shelling out extra money for a Colnago is nothing more than a placebo.

The most ignorant comment I read today. Let's take the C40 for example. Won multiple WCs, won every monument, and multiple Tours. Nonetheless, paved the way for acceptance of carbon fiber with multiple PR wins. And you have thousands of riders who still believe the C40 is the most comfortable bike they have ridden.

@@tommyfreckmann6857 You are beyond ignorant if you believe Colnago paved the way for acceptance of carbon fiber. Look built pro carbon frames long before Colnago. And Look has been used by way more TDF teams over the years than Colnago. Sure C40 is a great bike, but like all Colnagos, highly overrated.

@mattbleuer5011 I am very well aware of carbon fiber in the cycling world and its history. Such as Calfee, Kestrel was one of the very first full carbon and aero production monocoque frames. Look was more successful with the earlier KG frames consisting of carbon tubes with aluminum lugs. Their full carbon offerings pale in comparison to the C40s success with actual results. When you can give me evidence back research or confounding historic moments that precede what the C40 did, I look forward to it, honestly.

@@tommyfreckmann6857 You are the one making the overinflated non-sense claims about Colnago "paving the way". Colnago has not revolutionized cycling technology in any way. They built some beautiful bikes but never has a Colnago been the lightest or fastest bike in the peloton. And there is nothing magical about the ride of a Colnago. People just claim that to justify spending 10K on a bike
