If you love prawns and you wish to raise some for yourself in your aquaponics, then waste no time in getting started. Raising prawns in your aquaponics can be an excellent way of adding a different touch of diversity to your system.

the pH requirement for shrimp is above 7, but most plants cannot tolerate alkali environment. Is there any solution for this contraction in an aquaponics system?

500 Gallons for how many prawns and fish?

Prawn are a terrible idea to have in an aquaponic system. They will eat the roots. Check out, "Evaluation of freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii, for biological solids control in raft aquaponic systems and the protective effectiveness of root guards." They just feast on the roots.

      Could a mesh seperate them?

@@jimwarship9957 they tried putting roots guards and confinement mechanisms to separate prawns and roots to no avail. In my opinion any super extensive mesh system would run into problems as plant roots growth through them. Whatever roots a prawn can get at it will eat.

So separate the grow bed from the aquaculture/sump.

@@Collinoeight That doesn't fix the problem of the prawn eating the roots. THe idea of prawns are either to eat the solids in the grow beds, kick up solids to be removed from the grow bed, and create another salable product. Removing them to their own tank doesn't make sense due to their aggressive cannibalistic nature

@@anlowman9228 If the tank is deep enough and the mesh is low enough to be below the root line and is not super-fine, what prevents the prawns from performing their functions you described? I intend to set up an aquaponics system with shrimp to use them as bait for fishing. There are other small bait fish I could use if shrimp are inherently a bad choice.
