I have to admit that's something I never understood in the series. Rava contained and held the Avatar powers and their essence. While she was "destroyed" her personality was very intact and her powers. When she was returned to Korra why did all the other Avatars become wiped out? Rava should have still held them since destroying her destroyed them, but in the end she could not be destroyed? I don't know. Not a bad plot point, but to me it felt a little weak and pushed just so they could have Korra go on alone. Didn't seem to have enough validity to the story really, or it could have been better explained.
Alissa Williams they are not destroyed, just korra’s connection to them, they still exist in the spirit world. Perhaps the connection could be re-established by her or a future avatar

Korra: ".........."

The creators didn't want the Avatar to be too dependent on the past ones like Aang was and decided to get rid of them lol
