Travel Journal: Osaka, Kyoto & Tokyo 2018

  • In November 2018, I took a trip with three elementary school friends to celebrate our 40th birthdays. We took about a year to plan this trip as we would be coming together from three different parts of the world. The actual planning of the details didn’t take long, but seeing as we all had different commitments, giving each other ample lead time ensured we could plan our schedules and make all necessary leave arrangements in advance.
    After some discussion, we decided on Japan. It was a country all four of us had been to before and wanted to go to again. We also decided to stick to the popular trio of Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo instead of venturing somewhere new. This would be the first time the four of us would be traveling together as a quartet, and we didn’t want to add any unexpected stress to our journey. Thankfully, everyone got on well, with zero dramas and a lot of laughter.
    The four of us spent 12 days together, although Razlin and myself arrived Japan the night before due to the vast difference in ticket prices. I compiled a travel journey of our trip starting with our departure from Malaysia, right through the trip and back. Many of the group pictures were courtesy of all of our phone cameras and we really had a good time and can’t wait to travel together again!
    I hope you enjoy this leisurely look through my travel diary and feel free to ask me any questions about my journal or the trip. As you can see, I’m no minimalist when it comes to putting together a travel journal and feel the need to shove in as many things as possible!
    Thank you for watching!

    I love your use of ordinary items like packaging to make pockets, along with the use of washi to hold photos on a hinge. Your layouts are both simple and extremely thorough without being too busy that you can’t focus on anything. Lovely job!

    • @nadiahkimie
      @nadiahkimie  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for watching my travel journal flipthrough! I’m glad you enjoyed it 😊. Did I draw anything in these journals? They could be stamps or cut outs or something because my drawing skills are basic at best 😅. I journal when I get home - sometimes several years after my trip because of lack of time. I will take my journals on my trip though and try to guesstimate which spreads the stamps will end up on. This is quite risky though so nowadays I just bring a blank piece of paper, stamp on that, and then just stick it in the journal later.

    • @nadiahkimie
      @nadiahkimie  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi! I use photobook.com to print my photos as I haven’t found a small photo printer than can print on matte photo paper just yet. I don’t do anything to the boarding passes. Keeping them not so exposed to sunlight helps slow down fading, but if you are worried about that you can also scan and print out boarding passes, receipts, etc so they last longer.

    • @Tarmachan
      @Tarmachan 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It's a lot of work, but I go over all the text and boxes on my boarding passes and recipts with a fineliner pen (it takes a steady hand and a lot of patience lol). That way I can keep the original paper and once the thermal ink fades the pen version still keeps the original fonts. It's not perfect, but it keeps the original info! Scanning and printing is fine too, but I like the original paper (especially of boarding passes)

    • @nadiahkimie
      @nadiahkimie  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s a good tip for those wanting to preserve boarding passes and receipts. I am possibly too lazy to do that though 😅

    • @nadiahkimie
      @nadiahkimie  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m glad you found some inspiration in my journal 😊. Camera-wise I use my iPhone and also a Canon EOS-M. My photos are printed via photobook.com as I prefer matte prints to glossy ones and all the small photo printers only work with glossy photo papers.

  • @stationairy
    @stationairy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    so beautiful! I really need to make another trip out! For your printed photos, did you use a mini/pocket printer (HP Sprocket etc?), or did you print them from an actual photo printer? I'm impressed by the quality of the photos!

    • @nadiahkimie
      @nadiahkimie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh gosh, I thought I replied this but apparently I did not! It must have happened inside my head without me actually typing it out 😅 Most of the pictures in here were printed by Photobook.com on their Fuji Crystal Archive matte paper (one of my favourite photo papers since my film photography days). A few of them were printed on the bf's Canon photo printer because I accidentally left them out, and he printed them on really nice Canon matte photo paper too. I don't remember the printer model but it's a huge one!

    • @nadiahkimie
      @nadiahkimie  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! Well, I kind of do a bit of both. I’ll somewhat plan them day by day and adjust as needed, but sometimes it’s hard to predict what’s going to happen so I try not to stick things directly in my journal while I’m traveling. What I do try to do is end an insert to coincide with the end of a day, so I will then plan and adjust my pages before that. I hope that made sense 😅

      Do you mean the ones at 7:03 of this video? The hexagons are actually part of a packaging of something I bought - I think it was pickles! And the fan was part of a brochure from a Japanese fan shop, both along the main Arashiyama street, at least the shops were there in 2018 and I hope they’re still there now.

    Very pretty!! I am going in februari for the second time to Tokyo because my son lives there. ( We are Dutch) I love it so much there! Do you print your photo’s while you are traveling? Or later when you are back home? And where do you print it with? But it also takes a lot of time because I also write to much too. 🤣

    • @nadiahkimie

      Hi! I use Fuji matte crystal archive. I don’t print the photos myself - I use photobook.com since I love that they have this paper option. I’m not sure what gsm it is exactly but it’s like the standard ones that photo developers use for normal photo prints.

    • @nadiahkimie
      @nadiahkimie  4 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@airynigagamao8779 No problem! Ah, if you take a look at 6:40, you'll notice that a generous piece of the tracing paper has been stuck onto one page, and then I covered some of it up with photos. This is to make sure that the extra page won't come loose easily. In 17:04 though, I just glued one side of the tracing paper following the middle fold of the page. I use a transparent roller tape glue to stick the tracing paper down. It has to be a really clear roller tape though. Sometimes it's tinted blue or green and that will definitely show through the paper.
