Thank you everyone for your kind comments about safety glasses ! 😊 yes, I think you are correct in that I should be wearing them. I rarely wear safety glasses and have been doing this all my life and can’t say I have ever had a problem but I know it would be a good idea. It also is hard to see well and cut straight lines when I do wear them so that is probably why I usually don’t but thank you so much for expressing concern!
I'm amazed at your craftmanship!!! HOWEVER....WHERE ARE YOUR SAFETY GLASSES!! It just takes one splinter to wreck your vision for ever!!!

My first thought was 'safty glasses!' But you are an artist, not only a builder. 👍
That was my first thought!🤓 be careful!
Probably doesn't even occur to them. Really 95% of people out their don't use them. And also remember that this family has been doing this for generations. Long before that was invented. Probably basically the same techniques used just different equipment that makes it easier and fast. Safety glasses have only really started making the scene in the last 10 yrs or so.
And spinters really can get past glasses if they want to. Some being sold can actually Break easily and are thus useless. Just like 95% of bicycle helmet actually don't do anything but waste money and make you uncomfortable when tested in a lab.
So really why is it anyone's business to poke at someone who know way more about this business then us?
i remember working in a sheet metal fab shop with a laser cutter. even with laser approved safety glasses it still bothered my eyes. but i was so happy i was wearing those glasses when i walked around a corner and struck my eye on some 16 gauge sheet metal. if i hadnt been wearing those safety glasses my eye woulda been laying on the floor
I never get tired of watching as you pass on your art, skills, craftmanship, knowledge, and the skills that not only your father passed on to you, but also the skills you have learned and tweaked along the way. Those gifts will be with them forever and hopefully be passed on to their children. You will always be able to rest assured that no matter what happens, your children will be able to take care of themselves and their families. How I wish my children would have had that, but seeing your family reminds me that REAL fathers do exist and work hard for and with their families. God Bless and Protect you all as you continue your new journey and adventures.
My sprouse says the same as he missed so much with out children, about 22.5 years of being around as our three children as they grew up. He was AF and flew all those years and was not home for longs lengths of time.......sons and Daughters need their daddy's around.......and wives need their spouses as well. O
It's a task to think back at times, he was with them always when he was home however. We still all have good times, but it's "what if".....however they are all grown successful many grandchildren, all the children are in their own homes with beautiful families and doing well in this world that's a lot worse than my memory of childhood. Strange enough our grandchildren are all raised more like I was when I was a youngster back in the "day". I am sure your children grew up wonderfully. I think as I get older I tend to think I wish I had done more, but in reality, I probably couldn't have as it was exhausting. Wishing we gained age with years, but everyone else we all have to learn by our choices and thank God for the good choices we did make or learned from the ones we didn't make at times.

I’m a little surprised you’re not using any eye protection. I was very particular with my employees to protect her eyes can’t replace an eye

Oh family… please wear safety glasses! My dad was a farmer. Back in the early 70’s, safety glasses were not really worn. One afternoon he was taking the wheel off the tractor, his hammer hit metal n a piece flew into the back of his eye! He saw the best eye doctors but because of where it was lodged they could not get it out. Needless to say the pain in his eye was unbearable. He lost sight in that eye but the pain continue to be unbearable which lead to a lot of meds! Two years later, he developed a rare cancer n they concluded it was the meds
That brought this on.
Yes, a very normal summer afternoon doing his farm work but the beginning of downhill and at 50 years old, God called him home. We miss this gentle man so much. His spirit reminds me of you, Joas…. He, too built our childhood farmhouse!
Please be careful, dear Joas and your crew! We are so so blessed by your love for Jesus and the wonderful way you lead your precious family. What a beautiful fathers heart you have. Your children really know they are loved! Know we pray for you and your family’s safety!! ♥️♥️♥️

I love how you guys pioneered your building’s for expansion and contraction, I use to do something very similar on the many buildings I worked on through the years. I will say that I didn’t use a chainsaw, but I did burn through many sawzall blades and cut off wheels for my grinders and metabos. Y’all are pretty slick and I sure admire your work and work ethics. Although most certainly not OSHA approved a good deal of the time 😂😅. By the time I left the industry OSHA had made things so much more difficult, and had to add so much more to our bids. I surely do appreciate your work ethics and a big 👍🏆 to all your worker’s, excellent work guy’s and gal’s ….I really mean it. A pleasure to watch family and friends, thank you for sharing!

We know some people in Ottertail! I actually have a sister and family in the Amish community in a small town called New York Mills close to there.
I was helping your grandpa feed his flock of chickens about A week ago . I like the man , he knows how he wants the job done and is not afraid to Ask for it . I hand a fine visit for several days to the facility and church in Libby , all that I had expected .

Watching you build your log house, Joas, takes me back to my childhood when I used to watch my dad repair our ‘52 Chevrolet! I learned a lot about cars from him, and I’m learning a lot about log homes from you! You work with such precision and skill and your explanations make it easy to follow along. I watched all of this video and I really enjoyed it. There was one log home in my neighborhood and my friend’s family owned it. I spent the night with her once when we were in elementary school and I thought the place was grand! Later, my mother’s best friend owned it until the end of her life and we visited her there many times. I know the family who owns it now. Log homes really have special value and they hold that value very well!!!

Wow! Building a log home is truly an art! I had no idea so many accommodations had to be made for the logs shrinking. Ingenious how you figured each little thing out that needs to be allowed for! You are amazing me with all your knowledge!

Well, this is my second video of yours I have watched. I have decided I am going to have to go back & do some catch-up on what is really going on. I have discovered in some looking back that your family is Amish. I am very fascinated by this life style.
The hot springs you visited for someone's birthday are wonderful. I watch videos of Simple Alaska of Eric & Ariel that live further north of Anchorage. They have made quite a few visits to the hot springs & they make it very enjoyable.
I will be on the lookout for future videos, but I am planning on going to look at previous videos you have posted. I am also going to check out your wife's site also.
