Fab vidro Paul lovely wslk you can really tell with the help pf the old photos you were on the old trackbed, walking past the site of the station & over old bridges imagine the trsins being there.Shame about the tunnel being blocked up but most of them are now sadly. health & safety! I noticed on the old maps the line passes Rampskill mine that is an awesome explore seen nany video's on it. Stunning old railway area this is beautiful views you can see for miles a great little series. ❤😊👍
Great video, nice to see a bit of history on our local line. The first part of this line out of Harrogate to Ripley is now a cycle path and the bridge over the Nidd was used as a setting for parts of the Film Paddington 2. There are some great cross country mtb routes around scar house.
What can be seen on some of these reservoirs of this era was the shelf on either end of the walls for the overhead travelling gantry for the delivery of cut stones and /or concrete to build the walls across the valleys. Most walls had the railway run through to deliver stone and concrete mix to a position where the O/H gantry could lift the stone off the train to where it was required. The gantry could have limited travel across the axis of the wall as well as delivery across the length of the wall and would also have ground anchorage to take the loads from the cross valley wires and supported loads. The closing and sealing of rail tunnels in the walls are the very last act of finishing the reservoir pre filling.
That dam architecture wouldn't look out of place in a Lord of the Rings movie. Now I have the urge to get some luminous paint and daub "Speak friend and enter" in Dwarvish Runes on that tunnel portal - LOL
Tolkien spent a few months in convalescence during WW1 in Furness Auxilary Hospital in nearby Harrogate Feb 1917. Its maybe a stretch to think that he visited the newly completed Reservoir.
you might wish to consider the railway from Stocksbridge to the reservoirs to the west. Some of the railways bridges are still evident beside the main road but I am not sure of access.
Another good video Paul keep them coming.Always find the videos very interesting. Some good scenery to.
Thanks very much Chris. A pleasure filming in such pleasant surroundings

Cheers as always Carol. There's so much to look around up there. Could have a few weeks holiday, would be nice

You've got a beautiful part of the world 👍
I love the history.

I've seen some great photos of that on the derwent. 👍

🤣 brilliant 👍
Up until recently the station lavatories were still being used as public loos at Lofthouse Station.
They would have come in handy 🙂
Wow, didn’t know there was a tunnel. That is some major railway for a construction line. The stations are similar to north Eastern ones
Beautiful aren't they. Seems they threw the baby out with the bathwater when they no longer needed the railway for the dams.
@@WobblyRunner absolutely, I'm surprised the LNER didn't take the bit to Lofthouse over even if just for freight

Funny you should say that Brian...
It's in the pipeline 🙂
Pity they blocked up such a short tunnel.
It sure is. Would love a look inside. The photos I've seen show it to be deteriorating quite badly though.
