I wondered that too, but I agree that KISS principle means that it would too complex to implement in such a small knife. I have one of these and personally, I think they made the right decision. Much nicer for me than the Baby Banter.
The microjimbo is a small knife and if you don't need a in the blade it has a compression lock which is pretty much the same thing as a button operated top liner lock without the buuton
I like this size a lot. It's basically all I ever need when out and about in an urban environment (which is most of the time for me). Will it break down cardboard boxes? No. But I don't do that away from home. Even when camping, I have a knife like this in addition to a larger fixed blade.
I want a small knife for the city (I live right outside Boston/Cambridge in MA, where the limit is 2.5”). I once offered my knife to use in a store, to cut a tag or something, not realizing that at 3”, it was illegal in that city! I drew a few odd looks but that was all. Still, if somebody had called the cops… I would have been in possession of an illegal “weapon.” Never again!
Glad you recommend a small knife because I own like 12. Couple of Mini Pyrites in my top drawer and you might try it against the baby raccoon or the baby banter.
What? you think it’s a copy of the baby banter? If so, then I have to disagree, put it next to a full size raccoon and you can clearly see it is a shrunk down version of the big one. It does happen to look similar in terms of blade shape and the fact that it has a finger choil but the rest of the handle follows the ergos of the raccoon and is completely different than the baby banter. Also the action is way better than the baby banter and it has the front flipper too which works amazingly well.
Every Baby Banter I've bought has been dog shit. No offense to Ben at all but to Civivi. The design is good but the action on all 3 I've bought and received have been a gritty shitty mess.
@@shaggy_e210 Yes, my thoughts exactly. I had to abandon my wharncliffe one because the heavy heavy acid wash just ruined the action. When I decided to mod it and polish up the blade and action tracks - amazing ! It became very snappy and slick. I suppose if you work it in, the action becomes much better, but I expected more from Civivi.
Spyderco priced themselves out of this segment, I think. Is the lil native better than this (or the baby banter)? Sure. But not 3x better...Yet it costs 3x more.
Waiting for knife companies to build large and extra large versions of their knives while they are obsessed with baby, cub, pup this, and mini and micro that, can be so frustrating. Soon we'll have a Nano Korvid or a Banter Embryo and they'll be the size of an X-zacto blade.
When I first started carrying knives of course I loved the bigger knives but living in the city it's just not practical. A big heavy knife, carrying it everyday just becomes a pain especially when you could carry something much smaller and lighter. You can't underestimate the convenience of carrying a small knife in the city now of course if you're living out in the country definitely I would preferably be carrying a larger knife because it becomes much more handy and comfortable for harder use which if I lived in the country I would likely not only carry a bigger knife but a fixed blade. But yeah small knives IMO are perfect especially when you live in the city.
Raccoon “CUB?” “BABY” Banter?”C’mon, they’re all but straight-up acknowledging Ben beat them there. And that’s fine, IMO it doesn’t look like a clone at all, just a shrunken down Raccoon.
i agree that it's not a clone of the baby banter, but... you say that the style has been around for hundreds of years, yet the baby banter seems to be the only one with a big finger choil on a small frame?
I hate satin blades, don't like stone wash. DLC is my jam, but it annoys me that coated blades have lower HRC. I think Spyderco has put an end to that with a new coating better than DLC.
It reminds me too much of a Baby Banter. I already have a baby banter and do not see it doing anything better than what I already have so I am going to pass on this one. That being said, I do appreciate 5th pocket models that bring modern folder designs to a space usually dominated by a slipjoint.

I would love to see your impressions and hear your thoughts on the Vosteed Corgi.
I can’t stop carrying it. It’s so much fun to carry.
Scratch that…. Just saw that video. 😂 ……. It’s been one of those mornings.
Racoon cub, corgi pup, baby banter, mini korvid. Cool, small knives ad infinitum. Sometimes, it's all you need.
I want to like this model, but I just wish they'd gone with the top liner lock to make it different and interesting.
I wonder why they didn't.
Possibly the button might be positioned in an awkward spot. Either that or they wanted to keep the cost down 🤷♂️

@wills.8662 the yojimbo is also in a totally different price bracket

“Not ideal for everyone”
Thumbnail “everyone should have one”
Lol
I think you could use some common smaller knives in your size comparison set, like the Pyrite, the Penguin and the RAT II.
I like the profile of the Cub better than the BB… I never quite warmed to the shape of the Banter.
I need this exact version of the Cub because I like it more than the Baby Banter, just don’t tell Ben Peterson! 🤫
I’m telling on you. lol
Tonight, when you hear "what isssss up, guy" from your closet as you lie down to sleep, you'll know why
@@PluckyPackrat 😂
Is the Cub a front flipper? It looks like one! Does it work like one?

Tell me you didn’t watch the vid without telling me you didn’t watch the vid.
yeah it’s a baby banter worth buying

I want one hut surely they'll make a top liner version eventually so ill wait on that
That is a cute little knife.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like something's changed on the thumbnails recently, and I like it!
This is what a knife has as an EDC.
Lil Native with a compression lock.
My preferred small knife. Best ergos, best lock and best action of all the "Little Big Knives" I've bought

Baby Banter Warncliffe with Micarta VS. Raccoon Cub?? Which would you take?
The racoon
I have a Spyderco Dragonfly 2. Serves the same purpose.
Reminds me of the American Lawman Mini
At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter whether its simple or complicated, when you get right down to it, its all a COMPLEX PROCESS

What do you mean?
i love the knife i just think that both the Raccoon Cub and the Baby Banter are just have too round of a belly. still cool though
i have 2, both drop shut after liner release.
Thats not good right?
Cheers!

I think the Giant Mouse Riv and CRKT Pilar, which came before both the mentioned knives, are small with a big finger choil.
Cold steel tuff lite has been around forever.
@@slvrnbluoh yeah I forget about that along with the spyderco dragon fly and lil native.
Thanks for sharing
I am being 100% needlessly pedantic here, but shouldn't this knife have been named the Raccoon Kit?
It looks like the backup to my backup's backup.
Swiss army knife close in size and a far better secondary option.
Mine is snappy but maybe I have bad hands
I thought everyone needs a penguin. Now I'm so confused. 😅
30 bucks would have made this perfect
yeaaa but i feel like $50 is the new $30 yfm
50 is the new 30😂

The slightest sign of disappointment that he didn't guess the blade thickness correctly😂

Basically a baby banter…
Don't see a need for me. Got the baby banter with unlocked composite scales with the tweezer and toothpick 🔥
