Adding an external antenna jack to the Tivdio V-115, Audiomax, and Kaimeda branded SRW series.
If room is available, most small portables can take on this modification. You just need some soldering skills and a drill bit to mount the jack.

The diaphragm for the bass speaker is like that in the Sangean MMR-99 as well. Just a bit bigger.

Hi Toddy I use a very novel way extending my radio antenna. Get a helium gas filled balloon and tie a 50 or more feet of light eectrical wire l wire , take the balloon to the terrace and tie it to a nail on the wall and then connect the external antenna wuth another rlectrical wire to the nail on which the wire of the balloon is tied to . Boy it works great !!!! . But don't try this during thunder and lightning. And one can even use 100 feet of wire , the balloon still gies up .

    Two things I wonder about...
    1) Why didn't you just use the vacant antenna well for the antenna jack?
    2) You could have modded your existing broken antenna with a male connector to fit in the female jack in the existing antenna well.
Just some thoughts. I realize the thread is 3 years old now, and I haven't read through all the comments. I may just consider doing a similar mod, or at least taking apart an inexpensive radio just to look inside it to see the possibilities.
Thanks for the videos. Your channel is much appreciated!

I heard from valued source that the V 115 radio has an incredible secret, you can listen VHf and UHF, including air band try this first choose an OEM frequency for example 1225 KHZ press and hold record you must have a memory card inserted when it starts recording press FM slash AM and the mode keys that's all now tune it to 122.50 MHz it works by tuning shortwave as well the frequency is in kHz goes to VHF or UHF enjoy

I have both the Kaimeda and Audiomax and I like them as for the form factor, the auto scan and store in memory of stations found, the subwoofer like rear speaker that makes you feel the bass when holded and the capability of recording from the radio as from a microphone to a MicroSD card (I put a 32GB one in), USB port, Li-Io removable battery as very unique for such a cheap device. Also they are not very sturdy but fortunately both still working fine. Thank for the video and the tips on reception.

These two sets , turns the switch on collecting radios, as I liked so much that I bought both. As the battery and functions are very similar and now I got more Chinese radios as some of them are very unique and the ones from Tecsun and Keito are very well made. Keep loving radios, with them you never feel lonely. LOL

I believe on these radios, the ones with an AUX jack, that jack doubles as an antenna port depending on the model.

Several times I`ve discovered shorting wires on our property (a farm with lots of outdoor wiring) by first hearing them on MW. If you listen to MW you always get a head`s up on approaching storms as well.

the only real problem with these radios is the quality control, some work fantastic, some ok but others are terrible.
the "bad" ones seem to generate noise within the tuner circuit, making that particular radio useless, vwestlife did a review of the tivdio and got a bad unit, his video is worth a watch.

there's a mod you can make to make the interference on the v-115 much less than it is, turns out the display is causing 90% of the interference. so what you do is you add some copper tape to the screen and connect the tape to ground, I tried it and it worked well, but I ruined the screen in the process so be careful.

I’ve noticed plugging something into the line in jack improves fm reception

Just curious... What would be the effect of adding a jack and leaving the whip antenna but not switching it out?

    • @mikerogers4640
      @mikerogers4640 5 ปีที่แล้ว

No effect. At SW frequencies both poles are effectively short circuit and permanently connected.

On some radios you just connect jack and micro usb cable and reception is better without modifications

How much did am radio improve?

    • @todderbert

I have to use a passive loop or the Twin Coil to improve AM gain. The antenna jack is for FM and SW reception. Here is a short video of the Twin Coil and the V115 working together: th-cam.com/video/XAglosoNJOA/w-d-xo.html

Antenna? Get about 3 meter of hook up wire. For general work.

is it possible to add switch for turn off LCD display?

    • @coroamanicolai4527

That would help a lot on reducing the internal noise of the radio. I hope somebody will do something for that.

Guamanians will buy that SRW-810. Guam, US uses 9 kHz, it located in Oceania, like KGUM 57 on 567 kHz in Guam.
