Hi Eve! I'm in the process of writing my personal statement and I'm going to be trying to do law. I've had a really shitty time the past few years, including having one year and a half separated from the rest of my year due to anxiety related meltdowns to find out the last few months or so to be diagnosed with autism. I don't really see many people like me succeeding in this field so it definitely is intimidating. Seeing your videos make me feel more encouraged to try and fight for my place in law. Thank you

@@sarajames3744 On the whole I did enjoy studying Economics, although personally I much preferred Macroeconomics to Microeconomics. I did an introductory Law module in 1st year though as an option and I really enjoyed it, almost considered switching! From what I've seen there is a lot of crossover between Corporate Law and Business/Econ (Eve doing MSc Business, for example) so picking either path wouldn't completely shut the door on the other if that makes sense? Depending on your Uni, it might be worth asking if there's the possibility of dual honours/modules outside of your main degree so you can experience both, but if you are set on a Law path then it'll be worth making sure your degree has the right accreditations (LLB in the UK) to make things easier later on. I did a law degree and am now about 6 months qualified. I always recommend people don’t do a law degree 😂 it’s each to their own for sure. But i hated it. Law in practice and law in academics are very different and if I had my time again I would have picked something I would have a better chance of enjoying. I picked law because I felt like I had to... which didn’t feel like enough of a reason in hindsight.

weirdly I would recommend that everyone studys drama at GCSE level. You don't have to want to become an actor to stufy it. the confidence drama gives you is useful no matter what career you want to follow, it prepares you well for job or university interviews and if you are more of an introvert it trains you to to act as though you are an extrovert which is something which alas the world wants...although in these pandemic times us introverts are possibly doing better! Drama is also just good fun and a chance to let loose when you have the strain of other subjects to deal with.

@@indigo3589 Absolutely!! Apart from one or two classes that I don't like, I find law a very fun subject to learn, especially if you're like me and you like to prove other people wrong. I'm not sure for other countries, but in Indonesia you can be a diplomat without holding an IR degree (basically like England's GDL, but for future diplomats), which was what I wanted out of IR anyway. My train of thought when I finally chose law was -- if I still want to take the diplomacy route, I can still do it, and if I don't want it, my choices are endless. Whichever route you finally take -- goodluck!!
12:50 actually, the SQE will be introduced in 2021 but you will be able to choose whether you go to LPC or SQE route for at least a few years before the LPC is officially scrapped. :) Personally, even though I'll have the option to do the SQE, I'll do the LPC. Much more secure + more information about it out there.
Why tf am I here hahaha. Im enlisted in the US air force studying part time to be a physical therapist. NOTHING to do with law. But eves so damn relatable and fun to watch.
In Hungary we have a 'point' system, so the % of each matura exam that you have taken counts as points and you can get bonus points if you have a language exam (from now, to be accepted to a uni, you MUST have one B leveled language exam) or have a disability. There are different calculation methods to get the most out of your exams as possible. The maximum is 500. Law is usually around 400-450, so it's very high, this is why I canceled my application to law in the last minute. I'm going to be a teacher (english-history) and the minimum point in my uni was around 300. I sometimes regret canceling it, but deep down I know that I have never had a chance. But I still enjoy your videos, and I love following you through your journey.
I think city firms say its about transferable skills in work experience but its actually about the name of your university and your A - Levels. You can show all the skillsets you want, but why then are most lawyers from the same 5 uni's. Love the channel btw, just sharing my experience xx
