Halo 3 ODST: is the most atmospheric out of all the halos it feels. Its so grounded and ambient in its setting. Plus the feeling of vulnerability being heightened due to being an ODST and not a Spartan. Feels even more challenging
@@aBadWizard i mostly agree. Halo 2 is my favorite Halo game with my personal favorite OST of the series. The only thing is i felt the atmosphere of Halo 2 was much larger than Halo 3: ODST.
this was my childhood classic, the music, the weapons, the story, the fact that you’re reliving the story through the last odst picking up the different items of the fallen, this halo has some of the best visuals of its time and not only did the soundtrack tie into the nighttime walking but just the ending was so expertly laid out i will die at the hands of covenant defending this game’s masterpiece
ODST will always have a special place in my heart, quality game and the feel you get from being in the city at night by yourself combined with the amazing ost, just really makes it stand out from the rest, plus firefight on windward is amazing :)

Halo 3 ODST is my all time favorite halo game, and even my favorite video game ever. My now late grandmother purchased this game for me on my 9th birthday. The game had been out for a couple months already, and I could not be more excited to play it. I had played CE, 2 and 3 nonstop and was excited to play the newest installment. I remember first launching the game and having the overhead view of New Mombasa with text on the screen explaining the war. The music in the background, while I didn’t appreciate as much back then, hit something in my 9 year old brain. Listening to it now makes me truly appreciate the work Marty puts into making the soundtracks for the halo games. ODST does something so much different than the others, and I greatly appreciate it now. The feeing I had walking through the dark and lonely streets of New Mombasa as the Rookie scared me, but I still desperately tried to find my team. I absolutely love this game, and it deserves to be up with the greats
So glad you’re continuing with the halo runs. Halo reach is gonna be awesome, afaik there’s a wr run from about a month ago that is so sick. Crazy that the game is still being optimized
Here's my essay for why ODST is good: Lore-wise, it's not only a great story with very well-written characters, but it's also a self-contained story. All the character could exclusively be tied to this game and it would still be great, but because of the popularity of the characters, they return in the novels, with the exception of Buck, as he returns as a side character in Halo Reach and as a playable character in Halo 5 as well as said novels. A lot of people have a gripe with ODST as the game is made on the same engine with the same weapons and graphics as Halo 3, but is set right after Halo 2 Metropolis mission, so it can be a little confusing, but due to the lore around ODSTs in general, it makes more sense in my opinion. Gameplay-wise, ODST was the first time we were introduced to Firefight, which rounded out the game with 3 core game modes; a great campaign, an excellent multiplayer, and a co-op PvE wave-based mode similar to World at War a year prior. The music fits the tone and mood of the game, with the more gentle songs being used for The Rookie's missions as they were designed around stealth, exploration, and a sense of isolation, since you're trying to find the rest of your squad, leaving the rest of the music to be more like the original Halo's. Although there are songs in the Halo franchise that are more somber with a gentle melody, which is used during key moments in a mission or for times where the player is not in combat and is traveling, ODST leans heavily into it, even having the promotional trailers using the iconic song, and all bar the last couple missions using it for The Rookie. One thing many players will remember ODSt being amazing for is the Vidmaster challenges, as ODST came with 4 additional challenges, with Halo 3 having 3, bringing the total to 7 challenges, which is Bungie's favorite number. Upon completing all 7 Vidmaster challenges, the player was awarded the iconic Recon Armor, which at the time showed everyone in that lobby that the player was a very dedicated player who went through hell and back to get it.
As for the best game OST, Doom Eternal is the best. Not only is it pure violence in a soundtrack, but some of the stuff about it is just absolutely insane. One is that a lawnmower was used for the song "The Only Thing They Fear Is You", others being demonic imagery being used inside the music, only being found by using very special equipment, which was also used in Doom 2016's soundtrack. My favorite thing is that in 2016's soundtrack, Mick Gordon (the composer) was told to not use guitars, so he improved by using a chainsaw, and once shown said piece, ID Software gave him the go-ahead to use guitars, which Mick used and absolutely abused in Eternal's soundtrack. The only issue is that Bethesda's greed caused Mick to no longer work with them as they wanted to rush him to finish the music, which he wasn't able to do, to which ID was forced to mix the songs themselves, which can be heard when comparing songs
Halo 3: ODST is my personal favorite, except for Halo 2, due to the aspect of the surroundings in this game. This was if I remember correctly, the first Halo that had a lot of the story at night or just in the dark in general. You were a lone ODST, who was a rookie, separated from your squad and you play through the perspectives of each one, learning what happened personally, not as a character, what they went through before finding the others. This one was so different because you weren't a super powerful invincible spartan, no matter on what difficulty. As an ODST you somewhat feared what was going to be around the corner and it was nerve racking but amazing at the same time. The ambience was great to match it all. Stormy/rainy weather when as the rookie, traveling through New Mombasa, and varying with each person. The music last of all was stunning. The jazz style music throughout the whole time, the emotions associated with the songs, and most of all just how they associated certain parts of the music enhanced the feeling behind the story. P.S: Sorry for saying so much, I just love Halo 3: ODST more than any other game I have played.
Favorite Halo campaign might get cancelled for this one but the ambiance and the fact that your just a regular human being trying to face the horror that is the covenant really makes it so enjoyable for me
Halo ODST was sooo different to its original route, usually you are a solder that has so called superpowers even though they are not invincible, with ODST we get a brand new character which we don’t know about except from the books, ODST was known for its music Marty did a fantastic job, second was the story you are solder in city fending out the covenant and putting clues together from rookies perspective but you also play the other side so 2 different stories, but overall music wise 100% goes to ODST If you want a breakdown to the simplest form watch hiddenxperia
I love Halo 3 ODST. I didn’t play it when it came out, but came back to it maybe 3 or 4 years afterwards once I got an Xbox 360 of my own, and I absolutely love it for just the different feel it gives out of all the Halo games. It’s so different not being a Spartan for once, and the feels of walking alone in the ghost town that is Mombasa in the rainy night is so atmospheric. But it also gives more action in other missions as well and it’s just a great total package of a campaign. Also firefight was super fun with friends. It’s one of my favorites for sure.
Some of the reasons I really like Halo 3 ODST is that it has a very grounded and atmospheric felling. It creates a real sense of somberness as the rookie goes through the city at night doing his investigation finding out if his allies are alive. It also is interesting being an ODST and in the gameplay you fell shorter and weaker than spartans. It also has a great OST that matches the feeling of the game.
Honestly I was too young to even comprehend this game. I never got passed the first mission and it pissed me off because I payed money for this game and never knew how to play it 😂 now that I’m older I realize how stupid I was as a child
My favourite halo couldn’t actually tell you why but I love it, nostalgia hits different, the music too. (My favourite ost is either dark souls 2 or 3 the boss fights hit different)
Noah: " Call of Duty speed runs is running straight through the mission " Meanwhile Halo missions: Laughs, we run straight to the end, with occasional shooting enemies
Halo 3 ODST is my second favorite halo campaign and the firefight mode as was amazing too I just wish it had an ODST multiplayer but seriously an amazing game
This and Halo 2 are both tied for having the best story in the Halo series. This takes place during Halo 2 (Halo 3 Prequel) right after Chief destroys the scarab & the Prophet of Regret Carrier enters slipspace & Amber Clad (Chief & the other humans) follows them, causing an EMP during the first cutscene of this game causing the ROOKIE to crash land as well as all the other squad members
My favorite OST is the Night in the Woods soundtrack, it has such a variety with emotions such as, happiness, sadness, anger, etc that I can't even legitimately explain why it's just so damn good. If you haven't played the game I highly suggest it although it may not be for everyone.
Halo 3: ODST is the best PVE experience I’ve ever played in a first person shooter. Point blank. And it has the best OST as well that I’ve heard in any genre. Point blank. Game is crazy, and I think it’s my favorite halo aside from reach. But it’s definitely my favorite campaign.

And since that day odst has been my favorite halo game. Also odst has the best ost Annnnnnnnnd I’ve beaten odst on legendary more times than I can count lol
This is defiantly the most underrated halo games of all time. People don’t like NOT having shields, makes them feel scared. This was an amazing story following the risks of an ODST in the heart of danger following the average persons battlefield reality. Wonderful campaign slowly locating your team while replaying their past experiences! (Also why did they kill Rookie after in the comics in such a dumb way?!)
Definitely top 3 Halo games for me. The fact that the ODST group weren’t enhanced super soldiers with invincible armor but just regular soldiers thrown into the middle of the war trying to keep their squad alive just hit different. It made the Halo universe seem much more dark and dangerous
ODST is a great game. The reason it was controversial at launch was because it was charged at full price, when it was supposed to be a Halo 3 dlc. Thats why it uses halo 3s engine, with ported weapons and enemy A.I. It doesn't have its own multiplayer and uses halo 3s. So its not that people hate the game, they love it. People hated how Microsoft ripped people off for a quick buck. Why do you think Bungie don't make halo anymore 😉
I’ve played every single halo and this one by far is one of my favorites. It took a slight spin off and it didn’t miss to be honest. The atmosphere was different but in a good way. The city missions were the greatest. It felt like you had different ways to take the mission, if you wanted to be a bit more stealth or balls to the wall. You were mostly a lone wolf but it felt great to take everything on by yourself. I really do just love this game but it’s a hit or miss for people
Best OST Dark Souls 3. All the tracks match the emotion and intensity of each boss fight, perfect example Gael's OST. From the catchy Somber Theme and staccato strings at the beginning to the all out smashing symphony at the end. As you overcome a grueling endurance battle against "the hero of humanity" the soundtrack perfectly accents what's at stake. This can be said for almost all of the boss fights, some scores may be subjectively better to the listener, however it can't be argued that each piece works amazingly with the relative boss. It's also a great throwback to Gwyn's Theme in the Soul of Cinder fight.
ODST was more for fans that were super into the stories. The secrets, music, and just the adventure throughout the city. I loved this game and I know people were upset with no multiplayer but I thank Bungie for making this masterpiece.
Halo 3: ODST is probably one of the most underrated spin-offs from its generation. Caught in the void left by Halo 3’s (at the time) definitive ending, it forced Bungie to create something wholly new. The resulting game provided many firsts for Halo. Among others, it was its first open-world game and its first co-op-focused game, with only a Halo 3 multiplayer client on a separate disc for those looking to fight other players. Most importantly, ODST is the first game where the Halo brand got to flex its creative muscles, exploring a mix of noir, slow-burn action and the feel of being a normal human rather than an ultra-powerful Spartan space marine. For all these reasons and more, Halo 3: ODST has stuck with me all these years. EDIT: Streets of rage 2 personally. For the best soundtrack of all time
Halo 3 ODST: is the most atmospheric out of all the halos it feels. Its so grounded and ambient in its setting. Plus the feeling of vulnerability being heightened due to being an ODST and not a Spartan. Feels even more challenging
I'd argue Halo 2 did an equally amazing job building the atmosphere. And if you played on Legendary, there was absolutely more vulnerability lmao

For the best soundtrack of all time
My favorite game, I love it because of the different vibe. The story is incredible too
Love ODST and it has one of the best OST in any halo game, howether my favourite ost would have to be ff13-2
Halo reach was my first halo game and halo 3 odst was my second halo game, really really like them both
I played this game as a kid solo, I felt so lonely playing in it as it was always night and everyone was already dead when you got there.
