This was the performance where I first discovered them, and will always be my favorite version of the song because of that.

While I will always miss the charms of younger Babymetal, I definitely like them more in 2024. They are all around just better in every way!
I will say, at least with Gimme Choco musically, my favorite is around the Budokan 2021 times. The little extra intricacies that Kami East adds to the riffs just makes the song even better.

That's a classic performance.
The Colbert Report staff wanted to set up the sound.
The Fox God crew insisted on handling it themselves.
I love how Takayoshi Ohmura takes a step back to let his sensei Mikio Fujioka take that great guitar solo.
The girls were happy that a member of the flight crew recognized them from that TV appearance, and gave them extra snacks on the flight back to Japan. : )
I wondered about who set up the audio for the gig. Thanks for the information, Rick. Mikio nailed that solo, as always.
Yeah, the studio people were setting up microphones to capture the audio of the playing, The Fox God Crew were like: no, no, let's not do that in this small venue with loud drums, etc. here is a line we'll feed you what you need... and they did and the studio audio people were very happy after the show how well it worked. 🙂
This is 1 of the best, if not the best, Gimme Choco performance, all these highly professional people extremely focused on delivering the 1 song at their best.
Western Kami band can play everything that is needed, but they aren't as talented as these guys, but that's OK, the guys also have grown into their role more and more.
But I suspect 1 of the things it allows Babymetal to do now: performance many more shows, they've never been able to perform as many shows per year. Last year they almost performed a 100 shows. On the side of the ladies, they are out of school now, that used to be part of why they couldn't perform a bunch of shows they got invited to. Take SxSW industry event, they couldn't go because they had end of year exams in Japan.
I watched next day and I still feel the same. One of those very rare occasions where I would have liked to have seen the odd cut away to the audiences faces, as there would have been may who would know idea what was about to happen. What was happening during the song and finally, what just happened?
For me, this was part of the 'Golden Age' of BabyMetal. Right up to Su's twentieth birthday show. I remember commenting years ago, once the girls are in the twenty's, BabyMetal can not be the same. Not saying now is worse, just different.
For me the magic was this absolutely absurd concept of girls singing and dancing in front of a metal band. Equal to that, were the many, many old school rockers, dancing with them! The comments from older people saying their shows were the best metal shows they have been to, etc.
Momoko, had she been older, should have replace Yui, in a much shorter time period. As this was not possible, we waited a long time, in my opinion for BabyMetal to be equal to years back.
