    I’m glad my comm checkride wasn’t too anal. I could definitely imagine how a DPE can fail a candidate in so many ways.
    Power off 180s can make or break a candidate. On a perfect day they are easy when winds change they are can be difficult even for an experienced pilot.
    The applicant must know all the steps to each maneuver and set it up. More memory than skill.

    Thanks for this!
    Around @8:00 he talks about the instrument hours required for Commercial.
    I'm currently working on my commercial training while I wait for my IFR checkride. I have done nearly 40 hours of IFR dual instruction over the past few months and have around 45 total IFR hours. But I'm being told by my instructor that the DPE we use has said that I'd need an ADDITIONAL 10 hours of IFR training specifically to meet the stipulation for commercial and that those hours must be AFTER my IFR training... saying that using those IFR training hours from during my IFR training would be "double dipping"
    Now, I've seen everyone else say to the contrary, as Jason does... that as long as you properly log everything, all IFR dual instruction AFTER the 15 required for the IFR rating can be counted towards commercial.
    I've even made it a point to put this in my logs for all dual instrument flights after the 15 hour mark
    ---"Worked on increasing flight proficiency in the areas of operation covered under 14 CFR 61.129(a)(3)(i)
    Specifically, instrument flying, partial panel skills, recovery from unusual flight attitudes, and intercepting and tracking navigational systems."---
    I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.. do other DPEs do it that way or if this one the odd one out?

    • @TheFlyingZulu
      @TheFlyingZulu 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's an odd one out and needs to be corrected. The 10 hours of instrument flight training required for a commercial can and should be credited from an instrument rating. The 10 hours of instrument training requirement for commercial ticket are in the regs for people WITHOUT an instrument rating. I'd call the FSDO on the DPE and see if they can sort it out.

    I remember when I did my commercial check ride back in 1993. I had the same DPE for my instrument, commercial and my multi engine. These were done in three different locations. I couldn’t believe he moved around just like I did. I was in the Air Force at the time. So now, as a commercial single multi instrument, I have done nothing with the ratings other than put them away for 13 years andrecently got back into flying. Can’t do this professionally because I’m over age 60 which means I’m out of the running for any kind of real flying job. I guess I could consider being a CFI just to keep current and give back to the aviation community and teach some young person, the art of airman ship and obtaining their ratings.

    As long as you have an IFR rating most DPE’s will over look the additional 10 hrs of instrument training but there’s nothing wrong with more training especially IFR in my opinion.

      Will the FAA overlook it if you get in trouble/have an accident and they audit your logbook?
      Or are they going to strip you of the certificates that you didn't properly earn?
      Better watch out....

    I don’t see anything in the ACS that says you have to roll into the other steep turn immediately. A DPE said the same thing. Can you clarify?

    • @TheFlyingZulu
      @TheFlyingZulu 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My instructor did not say this either and the ACS does not say it as well... MAYBE the ACS was updated between then and now... but to me this DPE seems like a high and mighty one that will bust you for the smallest of things. I try to avoid those as much as possible.

    The ACS and the Airplane Flying Handbook mention nothing about "maximizing descent rate" during the steep spiral... Wtf is this DPE smoking. It's a power off gliding maneuver, a descending turn around a point. Not an emergency.

    • @TheFlyingZulu
