If anyone doesn't know already, drama club is about women equality. If you watched the movie, before the song started the boy made fun of how women couldn't do the same thing men could. The lines 'I never signed up for your drama club' refers to women not signing up for the way they're treated. Also, the lines 'your over analyzing every word i say' and 'there's a whole world out there your living a play' refers to men nit-picking every flaw on a woman instead of doing the job that women supposedly cant do.
Melanie got sent to 'detention' for having a 'class fight' at 'recess' by "The Principal". Then the 'wheels on the bus' went flat so they did a 'show and tell' while the driver was fixing it. When she got home, she ate a 'strawberry shortcake' with 'orange juice' and was thinking about 'high school sweethearts'. The next day, she gained some 'Lunchbox friends' during a 'fire drill' which turned out to be a real fire, she fell while running and had to go to the 'nurses office' where she met a 'teachers pet' sitting by the window. They talked about the 'drama club' because they both wanted to join it.
I love Melanie Martinez. It’s just, most of her songs are speaking to me. I really relate to their meanings. I mean, sure I have friends and a family who cares for me, but I needed someone or something to make me feel like someone gets me not only on the outside, but on the inside. Where my true colors are. Thank you, Melanie. You never fail to make me feel understood. 💝

Damn, I hadn't thought about them in months but this song near-perfectly fits my former friend group. They caused drama over nothing and I always got roped into it and blamed for things I didn't even do, mostly by one of them- he was basically the ringleader. They liked Melanie Martinez too, so just in case they see this: i never signed up for your drama club, Doc, but I'm so damn glad I finally got out of it.
Literally no one is talking about how this song is referring to the social climate we are in right now. Everyone is falling all over themselves in an attempt to make sure they don't offend others for fear of being "canceled." Everyone is so afraid to say how they really feel and to voice their own opinions because they are terrified of their peers reacting negatively. So many of us are not speaking our minds when we desperately need to... All because there are so many people out there just waiting for us to mess up and deem us "unforgivable." We are in a social climate where mistakes are no longer accepted, even though they are necessary for us to grow. She is saying that she never signed up to cater to everyone else and try so hard to say and do the right thing. She's just trying to live her own life and make art. It's like being a good person doesn't even matter anymore, we all have to be perfect or else somehow we're not worthy of what we worked so hard for. A lot of the songs have a common theme, Show and Tell for example. "Why is it so hard to see, if I cut myself I would bleed. I'm just like you, you're like me. Imperfectly human are we." She's desperately pleading to everyone, I think to her fans especially, to realize that she is human. If any of us were under a microscope the way she is, we would see how impossible it is to be perfect and please everyone when your every move is being scrutinized and your every word dissected. Perfection is impossible, yet we all expect it from our idols, don't we? We put normal human beings just like us on a pedestal and get surprised when they don't live up to our standards. When you forget someone is human and see them as a god in your head, you end up being very let down when they act human and make human mistakes. If the message she was trying to send wasn't painfully obvious to you after watching this, you're probably one of the exact people she is talking about.
I was looking for any comment that would point this out just in hope I'm not only one who is interpreting song that way :D Honestly I have never seen lyrics, that would express this issue better and more accurate. This song is my new personal anthem and it plays in my head very often these days :))
Favorite Songs from Melanie ♡ *_K-12_* 1.) Drama Club 2.) Highschool Sweethearts 3.) Show & Tell *_Crybaby_* 1.) Play Date 2.) Tag, You're it 3.) Alphabet Boy
My favorite lines ever, i want to make my senior quote is “They try to give you lines that you have to memorize, your always hiding behind your wizard of oz disguise. Do you even have a brain? You’re sticking to a page, you’re faking all your pain, yeah, you’re bleeding on a stage”
This song basically describes social media nowadays! People overanalyze everything and enjoy creating unnecessary *drama*, because as we know, "peace is boring", the whole script thing that the song uses is supposed to be a symbolism to people not stating their opinions because they're too afraid of the possibility of being "cancelled" or thrown hate at, so they refrain from talking about these topics and just agree with everyone. It's really sad to see people twist and purposefully misinterpret words just so they have something to hate at! This song opened my mind because i've been struggling with the "stating your own opinion" bit for a while now. Also the "faking all your pain" is directed at people who pretend to care about the silliest argumments and fights!
Im pretty sure the song is about gender roles. Everyone believes that we should follow the script of a woman being weak individual who relies purely on her husband. The music video really helps explain the song
“You’re sticking to a page, you’re faking all your pain, yeah you’re bleeding on a stage.” I know this isn’t what the song is about butI love this, it kind of sums up all the fake “depressed” girls at my school. They say they’re so depressed when they have the perfect life, and they never look depressed either way. They say they have depression when it’s obvious that they don’t, Depression is a real thing.
I can relate to this song so much but not with social media. Its in real life. Anytime I make a joke people take it too serious so I have to walk on egg shells to prevent someone getting mad
I honestly think this is abt the internet lmao any little thing a celeb says or does can get them ended and in drama IMMEDIATELY so you have to live on a "script" and act perfect even when perfection doesn't exist
i had a friend who was so negative all the time, they always used to say they had tics, anxiety, social anxiety, depression, etc. they always guilt tripped me and other people and always put their problems on me
I'm at my lowest point right now. Feeling depressed by what people are talking about but when I listened to this, I got my spirit back. Just don't wanna give a f*ck about 'em anymore cause I never signed up for their drama club...
Honestly it's so easy to understand what this song is about just from the first lyrics. "Everyone's So soft, everyone so sensitive. do I offend you? your hanging on my sentences." implying that people these days can't take opinions of other. "I never signed up for your drama." is also a lyric the points out the meaning.
@@mikevm1102 I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but the album has 13 songs and k-12 is 13 years. With Fire Drill the album would be 14 songs, but maybe she wanted it to have only 13 songs? It's just something I noticed, maybe it's coincidence :)

It’s like crybaby was about her when she was younger and still learning about things, and now she knows it all. Seems pretty clever to me!

i love that part :D
OMG SLAY U EARNED A SUBSCRIBER
I honestly think this is abt the internet lmao
any little thing a celeb says or does can get them ended and in drama IMMEDIATELY so you have to live on a "script" and act perfect even when perfection doesn't exist
best song on the album
i had a friend who was so negative all the time, they always used to say they had tics, anxiety, social anxiety, depression, etc. they always guilt tripped me and other people and always put their problems on me
Totally obsessed with this!!!!!
This has to be my favorite song in the whole soundtrack!!!
The auditorium part gives me literal chills
I love this song
That feeling when you actually signed up for drama club- but it still stirs up drama and toxicity- and now you want to just leave- yeah that’s me.
I can't explain how much I love this song!!!
I'm at my lowest point right now. Feeling depressed by what people are talking about but when I listened to this, I got my spirit back. Just don't wanna give a f*ck about 'em anymore cause I never signed up for their drama club...
Drama Club and Teachers Pet are my fav songs from the album
Oop an army and melanie Martinez stan?? We need to be bestie lmaoo

this song is always stuck in my head at school idk why
Honestly it's so easy to understand what this song is about just from the first lyrics. "Everyone's So soft, everyone so sensitive. do I offend you? your hanging on my sentences." implying that people these days can't take opinions of other. "I never signed up for your drama." is also a lyric the points out the meaning.
lowkey highkey my favourite song of K-12
“Behind your Wizard Of Oz costume”
Me, who just came back from playing the scarecrow in our Wizard Of Oz play: 😬
haha
"No one could ever possibly create a good song without the word 'the'!"
Melanie: "Hold my orange juice 😼"
I relate to this song. Everyone pretends to be someone they’re not.
No one:
Melanie: Destroys most of the internet in 3 minutes and 45 seconds
“I never signed up for your drama”
I felt that
Real
Did she released the credits song? What's the name?
I think its name is fire drill but idk why she didn't include it as part of the album
@@mikevm1102 thank you so much ^^ I wish she include it some day :(
@@sofii0_0_44 I just read a comment and someone says the song could be part of a deluxe album, I'm not sure tho
Wish its in the deluxe and I scream too
@@mikevm1102 I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but the album has 13 songs and k-12 is 13 years. With Fire Drill the album would be 14 songs, but maybe she wanted it to have only 13 songs? It's just something I noticed, maybe it's coincidence :)
My favorites
Drama Club
High School Sweethearts
Omg, this is so fuckin good song👌🏻👌🏻
Lady Gaga: I want your drama... Melanie: I never signed up for your drama.
Melanie: "I don't wanna be an actress"
Also Melanie: **acts in her own movie and gets recognised by Wikipedia also as an actress and film director**
Whatever happened to the tag your it flashback?
This song is fucking awesome😭 I love the hard-hitting aspect of it😍
Plus, the lyrics are so real 😳
