I just shot a bunch of poses for my thumbnails with different facial expressions..I had to reshoot 3x to get the lighting and poses right..the leaning forward tip would have come in handy...subscribed

Getting my first head shot and here in the metro Detroit!

Good stuff... thanks... always looking for tips for headshots... Actor in LA...
Glad you found it helpful!
Thanks for the tips, now to go find my chin
Great information and simple yet effective. I couldn't find advise on choosing the background color, do I go with my skin tone , or do you recommend a safe grey ?
Grey or white is usually a good starting point.
Great tips! What do you advise about lighting?
Generally, soft flattering light is best for a headshot.
I grew up acting and dancing, and I've always said that those early adult activities helped to break me out of my introverted nature!
Definitely, my daughter is a dancer - it makes a huge difference!
God bless
Off to get some headshots taken now. Thanks for the great tips, I'll put them into practice! :)
Let me know how it goes!
Scott Lawrence it went really well thanks! 😃
Question! I’m shooting my first head shots next week. I don’t have a studio with lighting. Was planning on doing them outside. He’s wanting them for his social media, like Linkedin, etc. Do you have any tips?
Sorry for the delay. Outside is a good bet (just try to avoid middle of the day).
Can you suggest some different background ideas for outdoor business head shots. Looking to do something outdoors for business cards. Thanks and great info on your video. Glad I came across it.

NYC / Jersey Shore Area
Less is more here, I'd find a building background or maybe shoot towards some heavy green space. Make sure there's a lot of separate between the subject and background.
@@scottlawrencephoto Thanks for the reply and information. Appreciated. All the best.
Philip
What settings do I use
To get started, I'd keep the settings pretty generic. Use an aperture between f4 and f8 and a minimum shutter of 1/60.
Nothing more natural than a robot trying new poses
You missed most important and that’s settings and light.
If only my face wasnt so tired all the time
what if you cant afford a professional photographer how can we take professional photo ourselves
Good question, I may do a video on selfie tips!
Need a teleprompter
I’ve gotten better 🤣
what if the actress has bags under her eyes?
That's easily addressed in retouching. I have a video or two on that topic.
@@scottlawrencephoto thank you i'll look for them!
