    Do not ever think you are too old. This is an art that if you don't take the chance you will always wish you had done it when the opportunity comes. Not many teachers take adults.

      fairday2 your first and last sentences are quite contradicting, but what do you think about a 15 year old who was never athletic. I suddenly took an interest in ballet, but it's so intimidating but intriguing

      April you can start ballet at 15 because when i started at age 14 a girl also started with me around the same time and she was 15 or 16

      April Barcega I started at 15; I'm 16 now. I was scared I would be embarrassed and uncomfortable, but I wasn't and I'm so glad I started. If you're really serious and progressing, you'll have to go all in, or do as much as you can. Eat right, practice and exercise at home, and take as many classes with the best school as possible.

      Honestly, I took ballet when I was younger, and hated it. So I quit ballet after a year. I actually really wanted to be a ballerina when I was younger. So you really have to think about it.

    I'll be honest, I am more of a classical girls never really understood contemporary... one or two pieces I do get, but it's rare for me. I don't see the skill as any less though :)

      Contemporary is a crackhead dance, while classical is pure art
      The US just ruins any culture with their rubbish because they are too lazy to practice to perfection

      i started at 12 ive almost done pointe for a year and dont worry just have fun at first its all about trying things out and if it doesnt work out then stop if you dont like it then it gets harder as you go on and then it might become a part time job and you might move into professionalism but remember dont think just cause your friends are s talented you arent you get to have a chance to try it out and decide dont worry yet.🙂

      eligirl100 it's muscle you can see practice in those legs.

    • @eloisa01
      @eloisa01 8 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      She still is really thin. Everyone is built differently so being "stick thin" shouldn't be made negative. Ballet is an elite sport which means the dancers will be working hard all day which will burn huge amounts of fat. It is also so much easier for a dancer to perform if she carries a smaller amount of weight so healthy eating and workouts is also necessary. All professional ballet dancers will be thin

    • @Grace-es9fc
      @Grace-es9fc 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It also helps to be thin for ballet because you can support yourself easier. I'm 5'10 and find it's a lot less stress on my feet and ankles when I'm 130lbs than when I'm 160. Also the less your legs weigh, the easier it is to get that develope or arabesque etc past 90 degrees because your leg isn't as heavy. But make no mistake, those "stick thin" dancers are lean, with low body fat percentages and plenty of muscle.

      Kαωαιι Crybαby Don't feel sad! If she moved you up a level it means he/she sees potential in you... He/she wouldn't move you up if they didn't think you could do it. Just focus on yourself and your personal improvements and don't worry about other people!

      Take advantage of being around better dancers and try to really watch what is working for them and what isn't. There is so much to learn when you are surrounded by those who are more advanced. On the other side, if you were the best in the class it would be easy to become stagnate. It is easy to be discouraged, and I understand but try to see it as a challenge to reach your full potential!

    WOW, what a dish!
    Anyway, I practice a Chinese Martial Art called Pa-Kua that a ballet dancer could do wonders with. Tai-Chi really does not involve as much stretching as many people think, but Pa-Kua (some styles) moves every joint to its' maximum. Some Chinese ice skaters add a few characteristics to their routines, but a ballet dancer could take this art to new heights.

    I love ballet but I was shut out of a professional career because I've never been thin enough and no one with any clout wanted to promote me. I could have pushed for it and gotten into a company later. I have a bad ankle but it would have been worth it. I've done ballet most of my life with a long break in-between.

    i want to start ballet classes so so bad. my parents are very supportive of my dreams but im so indecisive and i’ve done about 6 different activities and have not stuck with a any of them except for taekwondo. i’m a red belt and i’m(mostly my mom) very competitive about and i go to states and nationals and all but i dont really know how much i really really enjoy about the sport. i know if i ask my mom to do ballet she will think im crazy and she has been quite honest about the fact that she honestly doesnt think im a very good dancer. i know she will say no but i really want to do it. any suggestions on how to ask her?

    I've been wanting to take ballet, but I'm 19 with no money. I feel like it's probably too late to get anywhere.

    • @myrtaleellery
      @myrtaleellery 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's really not: you can start whenever you want, ballet can still model your body. I started a few months ago and I noticed that my movement have changed, that my feet are more flexible, my muscles stronger and my back straighter. There are many ballet school where teachers take adult students and the prices aren't even that highter, but to find them, you have to search for them. The problem with ballet is that people are deeply convinced that dancer can only start when they're young, so it'll be a little difficult to find a teacher, especially at an affordable price, but there are many people out there who value passion more than anything and will be willing to give you a hand.

    • @breezter
      @breezter 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Myrtale Ellery I'll need to start searching then! Thank you for the encouragement, it really means a lot to me! I hope I can find someone willing to help :-)

    • @TheWholePointe
      @TheWholePointe 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just want to encourage you that 19 is actually quite young! While the ballet world is a unique sphere in that so many people start as toddlers, the dance world is big and there is so much to be had at any age! As far as money you can always see if a studio is willing to exchange classes for work and nowadays on youtube there are follow along classes that you could do in between studio days. Good luck, I hope you go for it!!!
