    The UAW made concessions in 2009 because of the economic crisis. Now Stellantis raised their prices more than any other automaker and raked in massive profits. The UAW did their part in the lean times, now it's time to pay up. Oh no, we don't have any money now and have no idea where those record profits went! We don't have any idea what happened, someone forgot to design new cars and now all we have to sell are rotting '23 Challengers and Hornets! oh woe is us! PAY UP, YA CROOKS!

      Stellantis have been designing, manufacturing, bringing and selling lots of new cars to market in the world outside of the US. It's the US auto industry and consumers who buy the biggest p**** extension truckd that are backwards & out of date.
      The car industry worldwide is changing for the 21st century .. except in the US where they still want stuff built with 1970s technology & skills.

      what part of they dont have the money is not understood? All of those fat profit sharing checks should have never been issued- that money should have been invested in future product. You see, the UAW was a part of the raking in of massive profits just like management. Past "profits" were an illusion.....

      @@nguyep4 Yeah, pay up. They had enough money this year to buy back a billion dollars of stocks. Sorry, but demanding concessions, then poor mouthing after years of record profits doesn't cut it. It only seems like they have a million Challengers stuck to lots. They're still selling cars.

    The auto industry is undergoing a major state change. One should expect a lot of turbulence and chaos. Management/ownership is likely to do what they can to protect their money, labor is likely to do what they can to protect their incomes. Expecting them to work together, wisely, most likely doesn't make sense.
    The ICEV sink is sinking. People are going to fight over the lifeboats.

    Jeep/Chrysler/Dodge was owned by Mercedes long enough to introduce the Mercedes vans into the U.S., then Fiat bought them to introduce the Fiat 500 into showrooms across the U.S. then Stellantis bought Fiat while the Jeep brand and muscle cars were hot profit centers. Now that the brands are tired and profit flows from the U.S. to France have dried up - Now Stellantis wants a do-over on that union contract that was essentially set by the strike against GM. You know - it really is that CEO's fault. He should spin off the three brands to the U.S. employees. Make the UAW the managers. That'll teach 'em.

      In Canada, we had the employees of a major union (PSA, of government employees) go on strike against the union.
      So, a union is a business, like any other business, except, without a real product.
      Any wonder that Elon Musk is anti union?

    This is the second CEO fired by the union. VW's Herbert Diess was also fired by the VW unions. Note , this will never happen in an EV company. Because EV companies like Tesla and BYD are headed by founders not overpaid employees who are only interested only in their paychecks. Founders would prefer to go down with the ship than jump ship when the company is sinking

    I really don’t see a full point to try to kill the CEO, clearly American brands from Stellantis have a portfolio of products that has no future, but it was happening before the it become stellantis and it will still take a couple years to put a strategy in place. This CEO was the one taking decisions that were pending for a while finishing models like Charger and Challenger to bring alupdated new products with alternative sources or energy. I believe it can be a big mistake putting someone out not letting him finish his plan as he has done very successfully in Europe.

    Given the demographic situation in the States and Germany in the next few decades and the fact that their populations apparently don't want migrants, it is probably a wiser decision to move the noncompetitive car plants to other parts of the world being it Mexico or China. We are not in the economy of the 80's anymore. Convert these workers to other industries. Those countries need a huge amount of staff in the healthcare in the next decades. If they don't want to import them from other countries then lets train American and German workers to healthcare or other services. Not sure which politician is brave enough to bring their population this rational but less triumphant news.

    You're providing the wrong information. Ford and GM have the same contract as stellantis, and they are doing fine. The CEO is destroying stellantis. When you get rid of vehicles and engines that consumers want, you fail. The CEO got rid of the V8 hemi, which is what Americans want. He then decided to raise prices on vehicles that were higher than his competitors at Ford and GM. Both problems are because of the CEO

  • @matduchateau9288
    @matduchateau9288 6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

    How is the UAW to blame at all? The labor that goes into manufacturing those automobiles is 3% of the cost of a vehicle. They, stellantis make a ram for $32k , sell it to the dealers for 45-60k, the dealer sells that Ram for $90k. After the dealer has that vehicle stellantis has made their money on it. Unless there is a recall or warranty work then. What’s killed stellantis is Tavares and his sacrificing quality mid managing production and destroying brand expectations. Everyone knows what a Hemi is and who makes it. For 50 years the Hemi has been iconic so let’s just change who we are and what the customer expects with our brand. The fact is Europeans run that company and dodge Jeep Chrysler are American brands and Europeans either don’t understand the American consumer or are deliberately trying to force their market choices and preference on Americans, who will just walk away from the brand altogether instead of excepting the choices of the European CEOs . If the company doesn’t fail it will be because the UAW and their ability to lobby legislatures and other politicians that the loss of 43,000 middle class jobs will be catastrophic and may have consequences for them on the next election.

    I agree with you for the most part, Sam (and by the way, welcome to the US!). I only have trouble comprehending how the UAW could be at even partial fault, and I'll explain myself. My father worked and retired from the General Motors Fisher Body plant in Grand Rapids, before the automated robots, and ended up having multiple back surgeries and irreparable damage. If it were not for the UAW, he would have been tossed to the wolves. Because of the UAW, General Motors was forced to give him early retirement with full pension and lifetime health insurance. If it werent for the UAW, workers here in the US wouldnt have paid vacations, 40 hour work weeks, overtime pay. Sean Fein is a very highly respected man in the automotive industry. They protect the workers. They dont just strike every chance they can. These strikes only happen with union support when there is really an issue at hand where the workers are not treated fairly. Therefore, just my opinion, that Stellantis has done something major for the UAW to take a stand like this. Just giving you an alternate point of view. Im still praying for BYD to make it over here and give Autocrat Musk a run for his money.

    Pres. Fain of the UAW has gone off the rails by suing Stellantis to force Tavares out. The UAW has no viable legal foundation for such a lawsuit calling for the CEO to be pushed out.. That said, Tavares has done a terrible job as a CEO with no foresight or planning to keep the auto business alive for the long term. Stellantis is a dead company walking, unless it can find a merger partner and new management. The Jeeps are overpriced and of mediocre quality, as are the Ram, Dodge and Chrysler vehicles. Tavares has priced the Stellantis products out of the market to the point where their vehicles in the USA has become virtually un-sellable by the dealers. Some vehicles have over a year's worth of inventory sitting around!

    • @bobwallace9753
      @bobwallace9753 9 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +2

      By that reasoning, all companies should be unionized because everyone needs a job. Unless we live in a socialist/communist regime, employers should not be constrained, intimidated and blackmailed by unions and workers should be encouraged to vote with their feet and leave if they no longer support management. Unions do not care about the survival of the company - a short term strategy that will always prove fatal. Union bosses are often corrupt and wealthy while they steer their members to squeeze their management until bankruptcy is the only option. Just look at the VW Group. It is a complete joke what the union is doing. The VW union would rather shutter the entire business than to accept that factories need to be closed and people need to be laid off simply because sales cannot support their expenses.

      @@davidbeppler3032that’s unfortunate and we should do more for those who have fallen through the cracks. What many do not know is that SSN was never meant to be the primary source of retirement income; it was only intended to play a supplementary role, with defined benefits and defined contribution and personal savings to constitute the bulk of retirement funds. Additionally, a shrinking workforce as a direct result of a shrinking population simply means less people have to support a growing aging and retired population. To cap it all off, humans are living longer and longer, so you see where I am going with this. The party that is in power 4 years from now will have to decide if they will raise the retirement age or cut all benefits by 20% or raise SSN taxes on those working by 20% or a combination of both or print the deficit right out of thin air and in doing so, guarantee perpetual elevated inflation. None of these options will sit well with Americans, but I suspect the least painful is to inflate away the problem and deal with inflation further down the road.

    Chrysler makes great trucks and Jeeps, but they're charging ridiculously high prices. Find a way to charge prices that working class people can afford, and they'll sell. Also, move production to Mexico and get rid of union labor.

      Maybe Stellantis figured out that they will go bankrupt because they can't ramp up EVs fast enough to save themselves. So what they are doing is maximizing their short term profits. And, at the same time, reducing their workforce and closing plants so that they don't suffer a sudden, massive collapse.
      Just fadin' away....

      @@bobwallace9753 How big is the EV market in the U.S. and Europe? Stellantis already has a few EV's. Ford, GM, VW, Toyota, Lucid and Nissan all have gone head to head with Tesla in these markets and lost. I hope they are eventually successful, but I don't think there's a magic wand they can wave to save their companies. They're going to have to just rebrand low-cost China-made EVs in order to stay in that sector.

      The EV market is growing slower in the US than in Asia and parts of Europe. We don't have a large selection of EVs that people want to buy. And legacy is spending billions convincing buyers that hybrids are better than EVs.
      I think we may see a change in the US if Tesla does start selling a less expensive EV built in the Austin 3/Y plant. A $35k EV with a $7.5k subsidy would mean a $27.5k Tesa and be a major catalyst for EV sales. We should know later this week.
      Europe is likely to be a country by country thing. Germany and other countries with auto industries to protect seem to be putting up walls against Chinese EVs, like the US is doing. Other European countries are going hard for EVs.

      A disaster eh? - Stellantis is pushing ahead with bringing new models to market at pace - and these are ones at an affordable price that people are buying. Maybe it's just the backwards US auto industry that can't see that change in required to survive.
