Incredible details on these walk throughs, thank you! I arrive in NZ late next month(Nov). My first 2 nights are based in Te Anau once I get into Queenstown from Auckland. This is incredibly helpful for me to figure out where I want to stop along the way to and from Milford Sound, again, thanks for the video!!
We love how detailed this is! We were told by so many people that there isn’t much to see on the way and we didn’t find that was the case at all! We loved all these cute little stops. Thank you for your vid!
Thanks for your comment. Yes, it's often the smaller and not 'marketed up' spot travellers find interesting and rewarding. You are right there is much more than meets the eye. Cheers Michael
Hello, I've been in the south island for a week, in a rental car and will be back in the near future, but then at least 2 weeks in a motorhome, I'll come back when I'm back in New Zealand, for a good planning and I'll see if I can bring more interested from Sweden.🇸🇪 🙏
I'm gonna be there just for one full day. Driving from Queenstown. Do u recommend just do a cruise and hike around on ur own? or Do a group tour with a Coach bus guided hiking and the cruise? thank u
It's a long drive from Queenstown to Milford - calculate on 4+ hours one-way! Generally going with a coach-tour might works best as you don't need to drive that kind of distance (there are some windy parts too) as well as you getting a commentary. Go with a smaller operator, so that you might be able to do a short walk too (less people on board = more time for each person). Sample gyg.me/V70LBez7 Hope this helps! Cheers Michael
Hi Dora, you can use a standard car as the road is good. In the winter season (June-August) you need to be aware that there could be snow and ice, so this would be a different story. If you travel in winter I would recommend to use a local tour or transfer. Cheers Michael
Lovely video! Very detailed, thank you! I’ll be in New Zealand during August and was wondering if you think it is worth the trip from Queentown to Milford Sound? I like the idea of staying in Te Anau. I also noticed the limited accommodations in the Milford Sound area.
Hi Todd, depending on your overall itinerary and time budget, I'd recommend staying in Te Anau. If you need to do Milford Sound from QT then join a coach tour or even better take a scenic flight. The self-drive from QT to Milford return is simple too long (in my opinion). Yes, there is hardly any accommodation in Milford. Also, the road in between Te Anau and Milford has a stunning scenery with lovely walks, view points etc. Therefore you need a full day from Te Anau to explore Milford Sound and the road. Cheers Michael
There are some non mobile areas, especially between Te Anau and Milford Sound. My suggestion is to have some notes ready. Otherwise most key places as well sign posted. Hope this helps!
Very informative - Thanks for the ride
Glad you enjoyed the ride!
Very good information, thank you

Great video - can any small car do this or is it preferable for a certain car?

Very helpful video! If we will do this by self drive, are we still able to use our google maps? I heard the phone signals are flactuating. Thank you!
