Thank you for such a clear explanation. Kinda new to the accounting scene so everything felt overwhelming.
I'm a Data Science major with a concentration on Accounting Analytics so I feel that advisory is the path for me. But I heard that not being an accounting major can be a turn off to recruiters because they want someone who's CPA eligible and I do plan on becoming CPA eligible upon completing a MAcc post-grad. How do I market myself to recruiters? I'm scared that I look like I only half one foot in the door but I'm pretty set on working in a Big 4 as an accountant, but do more work in analytics later on.

No problem! The good thing is you don't need an accounting degree to work in advisory. If you're still in school, I'd recommend networking as much as possible whether it's through career fairs, alumni events, etc. It sounds like you're positioning yourself well already so just continue to express your interest and get to know people in your preferred line of work!

This was very helpful. Would you be able to the same video but Finance directed? Since you majored in both degrees, how much did a Finance degree do for you?

glad it was helpful! and yes, I've recently put out M&A consulting and FP&A videos but I plan on putting out more finance career videos soon. Personally, I think getting both degrees broadened my options and allowed me to pivot career paths a bit easier

Thanks a ton. Can someone who start with tax at the big 4 eventually transition to an industry audit role? Is it possible to specialize in tax but also simultaneously learn audit at their public firm? My goal is to have my own practice and I’d like to be versed in tax, but with audit capabilities as well.

Great video! Do you still practice and if yes what’s your specialty?

Thanks! I actually pivoted from M&A advisory last year after working in it for about 3.5 years
