We have a Delaware hen in the south. She doesn’t lay often, but always jumbo when she does.

About the rooster roosting up top where you get him off of, this will continue until you lower the main roosting bars and have one bar that will be a bit higher then the rest, because rooster likes to be on the highest close by his hens.

Hi!It looks lovely there, with the snow, same here, also freezing cold.I have crossed Delaware with Light Sussex and the difference is that they have white feet and the feather colour is lighter.

That is awesome!! Chicken genetics are so interesting. I love the light Sussex, they are beautiful. I am curious to see what the Delaware mixes will like this summer. Thank you so much for watching ❤️❤️

@@JerseyBirdHS Forgot to mention that laying is much better because of Sussex gene.

I was wondering if it improved their laying!!!! Thank you for telling me!

@@JerseyBirdHS Hi there,if you want to see how the cross between Sussex and Delaware looks like I just uploaded a video about them. The hen that is making noise is a product of that cross.

I have the same breed of Delawares from Mcmurray. They are 10 months old now I got them in April of 2023 and they were laying in October and have been non stop all winter. I get 4 - 5eggs a day, I collected 26 eggs the first week of January and Hatched out 25 chicks the last week of January. They lay almost as good as my buff orpintons

That’s great! Perhaps mine will produce more when the weather warms.

Sorry to hear about the laying issue on the Ds. Didn't think it would be that low. I actually have Freedom Rangers for layers. I have two standard and two Cornish based FRs, but both pairs seem to lay at about the same rate. I'm getting a dozen+ eggs every 5 days from 4 birds. I'm going to add two Cornish Cross if the ones I have on order grow well. Last two batches of FRs and CXs have been runts/duds. I have opted for New Hampshire roosters and have 5 on the way with this next batch of meat birds. I'll keep the two largest roos and see what they produce when bread with the CX based Freedom Rangers. Wish I could post a pic, but they are basically FR colored Cornish Cross. They are 11 and 13lbs and are about 1.5 years old. Super healthy and very mobile for their size. I'm hoping they will produce some nice large dual purpose offspring.

That is awesome, I was actually thinking about bringing some freedom rangers on board to see if their laying was any better, thank you for answering my question! I’ll be ordering some soon. ☺️

Thank you for the update. You would think they would lay a little better. We are going to try what you're doing with New Hampshires this year.
Looking forward to the True Blue update. We have 3 on the way in spring 👍🙏✌️

That is solid logic, I only had Jersey Giants for a while. It is also healthier for the chickens, not as stressed out by weather and such since they have been bred in it for many generations

    Mac Murray discontinued that bird.

Doesn’t really surprise me, the Delaware hens had a really tough time with the weather this winter. I am hatching out mixes of barred rock/ Delaware in the hopes the offspring are more hardy.

They have not been discontinued one of their barns got hit with avian flu them and their Ginger broilers were lost for the year. They saved the eggs back that they had and re-raising them this year and they will be for sale again next year

And if you'd like to know the correct way to breed the delawarees, you should look up Indian River broilers it'll give you all the information you need on how to make your Delaware's bigger meatier and sustainable. FYI, they cross delawareoo over New Hampshire. Henry select your biggest cock and breed them back to your Delaware hands to improve every 3 years. That my friends is your 1950 broilers they are good meat birds
