I like your narration style of approaching this games for the first time. "What's a Magikarp?" "Who is Team Rocket?" Really takes a series veteran like me back the olden days lol
I think sandshrew stay on the top floor to avoid paras, as theyd be the ones able to use leech life or absorb and hurt them. And paras stay lower to avoid the light or drying out
I know you hate the manga, but the Clefairy chapter in ETP is one of my favorite pieces of Pokemon media. By spending time observing the Clefairy with Oak and Bill, Ash learns to respect Pokemon as individual creatures with dynamic lives as part of a wide ecosystem. He grows as a trainer not by catching or battling them, but specifically by just letting them be. For that, he is rewarded with their evolution dance and the Moon Stone. It's an approach rarely seen in most versions of Pokemon and I think it's beautiful.
Please keep doing more of this. If you'd do a spotlight of some areas in Generation II, my most cherished generation, I bet a lot of people would be happy!
Same! Gen 1 and 2 were my favorites growing up it just sucks that these newer pokemon fans dictate and tell you which gens and pokemon to like and dislike I mainly know the 2 gets after 3 I gkt c9nfused and by now these designs are more overwhelming and less creative in my opinion
Dude, the way you narrate seeing it from the first player perspective and the old Ken Sugimori drawings made me teleport back 18 years ago when I first played these games. That's amazing, dude! If you presented Mt. Moon from gen1 I'd already love the video, butjyou also covered every apparition of the place! Manga included! Thank you for the amazing video. Subscribing!
Personally I find the pokemon hall of fame room the most fascinating. Truly remarkable that out of all the poke fans in the world, I am the greatest trainer of them all.
Will you ever do more videos like this for later areas in the series? Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova? Stuff like the Ruins of Alph, Ecruteak City, New Mauville, Mt. Pyre, Mt. Coronet, Old Chateau, Lacunosa Town or Celestial Tower? It would be really awesome to see these mystical areas in the series given the retrospectives they deserve.
I feel you… sandshrew was the 1st Pokémon I ever saw but as a toy/action figure. I remember I once went to mg cousin’s house (back in like 1999 or so, which his family was also a bit more well off than mine) and told me that his parents had gotten him some new toys called “Pokémon”. It was action figures of sandshrew and sandslash. When I saw them I thought they looked like the coolest things in the world. Now 26 years later here I am, 36 years old, still being a fan 😅
I like the theme and feel of Mt. Moon. It has these vibes of the old Japanese open mind towards space and the future. There are those moonstones that can improve creatures from earth, like Nidoran and Nidorina, meaning the universe will bring something good. It reminded me of old Japanese cartoons for children, like this pink computer ghost explaining why ISDN is the technology of the future. And not to forget Sailer Moon got a similar vibe. What do you think about the thesis, that Pokemon first portraits the good, simple and natural live with field small cities and woods, to then introduce the player to the dark side of modern society with big cities, crime (Team Rocket), pollution (Grimer, Koffing), technology (Magnemite, Porygon)?
When I had this game I wished so much to see the clefairy dance but since I was thirteen at that time and it was school next day it took a long time until I had the change to finally experience it.
Keep going with these videos on pokemon dungeons/landmarks, they are great to watch! Would love to see an in depth analysis of the Seafoam Islands, Sevii Islands or maybe Jotho (Ilex Forest)!
Great video. About paras, I've been playing more Arceus today and it taught me more about them. Apparently baby paras have no mushrooms on them, they appear when they're a bit older and the mushrooms in question are called 'Tochukaso'. The more you know.
I love these videos! Oh man, what a throwback. Mt Moon completely wrecked me as a child. I remember getting so lost until my charmeleon ran out of PP before being KO’d by the hiker with onyx. Zubat used to be my least favorite Pokémon, until I trained one into a Crobat in GSC. That extra evolution made that evolution line grow on me.
Bro, good video, but you forgot the lvl 16 raticate trainer that's stronger than everything you'll find aside from misty and your rival. His hyper fang can easily wipe a team. Especially back then when we were kids.
My personal favorite pokedex entry for Parasect has to be the Russian Pokedex one... In order to evolve it had to kill an entire office building full of people... The russian bootleg Pokedex is insane... (And having played Legends Arceus, where they made it go from a gen 1 pokemon with way too many weaknesses to a grim harbinger of doom striking fear into the hearts of players everywhere... I can see it doing that) (I am honestly kind of suprised you didn't also mention that there's a guy in the pewter museum who just straight up mentions the moon landing)
I would love if you kept making these map exploration videos, maybe for other regions too! So many deserving locations in Pokemon maps that don't get a second thought after passing through the first time
It's fun to analyze these places that you look over when playing the game today. I think it's honestly more fun to play the game while paying attention to the story
Another amazing video . my dude u make me feel like I’m listening and watching an older TH-cam video like nostalgia with a side of freshness you can’t replicate or duplicate so Thank you and keep them coming:)
Heyyy😸 I Love the way Your recent content where You Revisit these old locations from Pokémon games! Brings back Sooooo much Nostalgia..... makes me Long for the simpler World that used to Be! Also Love the shout-out w/Trading Cards! It's my B'Day in October so that'll be exciting! Much Love from India🇮🇳
In the Pokemon Special manga, Mt. Moon is where we see Koga was a part of Team Rocket along with Lt. Surge, Sabrina, Blaine, and Giovanni. Blaine eventually defects from Team Rocket after helping create Mewtwo.
This literally encapsulates the mental gymnastics some of these theory videos go through. This channel is fine, not throwing shade here. But some other channels are ridiculous.
Yeah. Paras is the host for the mushroom, tochukaso, that sprout from its back and absorb most of the nutrition, but when Paras evolves into a Parasect, the mushroom takes full control of the fully zombified cicade nymph (yep, it's closely related to Nincada) and eventually leaves its toxic/ poisonous spores in the bug's eggs to start the cycle again. And if the mushroom comes off, the Parasect stops moving because the bug is mostly dead. It's... well... awful but realistic. Massospora is a real parasitic fungus that zombifies its insects hosts to spread.
The 4x Super Effective Leech Life on Ivysaur does *NOT* help going through Mount Moon but I still can't hate on Zubat. I mean I have no room to, I have like 7 Shiny members of the Zubat family, but Golbat is a favorite of mine.
I thought Sea foam island would be next, but if you're also doing "less significant" places like Mt moon, maybe you could also do the safari zone instead
@14:22 Most people aren't trainers, & even weak Pokemon are dangerous to encounter alone. (In Gen 1's story.) TR could cause great harm with their Rattatta & Ekanses.
Paraspectre, I LOOOVE this series - covers all the parts of pokemon I find interesting and I can't wait to see if you get through Kanto and into Johto. Beyond that, Sinnoh would be cool but honestly i'd be happy with those two only (or just kanto). Glad you enjoy making them!
Been going through a tough time lately and revisited Red for some cozy gaming. Finding your channel and this series was a perfect coincidence. Thanks for making these. Gen 1 is still peak
Brock also caught his Zubat right outside Mt Moon in Episode 6 & furthermore we have The Johto Jigglypuff Song refer to it being found in the "Shade of Mt. Moon" referring to the Route 3 location with it also needing Moon Stones to evolve. Also notable is the point of no return after you leave to Cerulean City with Johto games relying on that to prevent access until the Power Plant sidequest is resolved. Kanto games you just needed to surf in order to bypass the 1 way drop.
These videos are really good keep doing them. A deep dive of all these cities. Towns, lore of the Pokemon world and the secrets both in game and irl. You should keep doing them. Even if theyre creepy or fascinating. Theyre cool. You do it well
Whenever I think of Mt Moon now, I can’t help but remember this twitter thread on “found media” of a lost early Japan exclusive Pokémon television film called “Pocket Monsters: Rocket Strike on Moon Mountain!" that turned out to be fake and linked you to a troll video 😂 Anyhoo, aside from that, I never thought super critical when I first experienced mt moon in leaf green but I love the atmosphere of being lost in the mountains at night and brings. Young kid camping in the woods and preparing for the big trek through a cave system knowing you’re adventuring through a mountain with a weird connection to our moon. It’s peaceful.. despite all the zubat haha
There's that one optional Team Rocket grunt (which I learned to avoid) in Mt. Moon with a Level 16 Raticate that knows Hyper Fang which I consider a Nuzlocke killer.
Man, I spent SO MUCH time trying to get an onyx in mt. moon on the blue version back in the day simply because I thought Brock got his geodude and Onyx from there.
Anime & EToP claimed Brock was given Onix as his 1st Pokemon much like Ash started with Pikachu. I just used the Pokedex to find the area for stuff although it didn't help with Fishing Pokemon in Gen 1 for some reason. Onix said Rock Tunnel & I admit the video forgot the FRLG Rocksmash Shortcuts & that Geodudes could be found commonly in those as well.
"You check out this new pocket monster game, whatever this thing is. You select your starting pokemon, with your starting options being a *green* frog, an *orange* lizard or a *blue* turtle." Green? As if I had a gameboy colour back then. It was all green and black for me...
1 big change depending on versions is the Rocket with a Raticate that's on the floor before you get to the scientist. It has super fang and is level 16 and can absolutely beast you if you are unprepared and were just trying to get through the cave with your starter.
Your Channel being represented with Parasect is great! It took me a while to get the shiny form on LGP as I like that Pokémon, would like to get a sticker shown off early in the vid, it has a cool design
personally, im a zubat enjoyer. it's just a little guy of all time, and i like golbat. yellow giving me sandshrew does make it the definitive mt moon experience though! sandslash is to this day one of the coolest pokemon to me and i like using one whenever its available to me
Hey Mr. Paraspectre, I find it interesting that you like Sandshrew as your favorite Pokémon! I also like Sandshrew because, it's Pokedex entry is #27, my favorite number! But why is Sandshrew your favorite Pokémon? Nice videos!
I know most people hate Zubat, but I have a soft spot for that evolutionary line, as I once did a let's play about 12 years ago of Crystal version, I went into the Bugsy fight under-leveled and Pahzuzu the Zubat lived on 2 hp and took out Bugsy's Scyther. Ever since then, I always make sure I have room on my team for one. That and Bellossom in my SoulSilver Nuzlocke taking out half of Red's team on its own are some of my favorite moments from these games. Edit: I like the of the use of the piano version of Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd in the BG towards the end.
I usually catch a Paras in fire red as my main user for cut, flash and later on rock smash in the post game. Yeah it can’t learn strength but you’ll probably have a Knidoking or something else that can make far better use of that move.
At first I thought you said that Sandshrew looked like a penguin and I was very confused... Then, I had to rewind for a reason and re-heard you properly; 'pangolin'. Oohhh, yeah, I can see that... XD
Recently went back to Mount moon on a blue playthrough where I don't buy anything from the Mart except for five pokeballs at the start to get the ball rolling. Well I wanted a Clefairy so I went back and got one
First time I played I caught a Clefairy in Mt. Moon. Didn't know it was rare. Used a Moonstone on it, just to see what would happen. Was disappointed when it evolved; I didn't know some Pokemon only evolved with stones, & I thought I gave up the chance to raise it myself.
Heres a funfact for you. James Koffin had a Double KO whit Onix in the Anime. Both used Tackle, and both did go down. And in Yellow both Pokemon are Lv 14.
Uselss trivia is that there is no wild pokemon data where the fossils were lay, you can walk in those two spots endlessly with no wild encounters.
I vaguely remember being surprised that nothing appeared there back in 1999 or so. That explains why!
There’s also no encounters on the first tile of cave entrances
I like your narration style of approaching this games for the first time. "What's a Magikarp?" "Who is Team Rocket?" Really takes a series veteran like me back the olden days lol
Golden era in time man. Things were just ....different

The Pokémon pinball mention was super nostalgic! What a fun little game that was. Battery powered cartridge which had rumble capacity, pretty sweet.

Dragonspiral Tower and Relic Castle could be fun areas for Unova. It would also be cool to have a video on Glimwood Tangle in Galar
There were so many playground myths about the Ruins of Alph back in the day. I spent hours there, trying to make something interesting happen.
