My family is from East Africa but the way the culture is, is very similar to Indian culture. I went no contact 2 years ago. I totally get the need to find peace and to get away from the constant fighting. They also had unrealistic expectations about money and what we should buy. I got depressed too and they didn't care. Luckily I've done a lot of healing that has helped and finding my husband helped. It's difficult not having a family but you're better off. You're life will come together 🙏🏽.
And the piece about lying how we are doing in life is accurate! My mom still lies to the community that I'm still at my old job. I'm not sure what other lies she is telling the community about why I'm not around. Good luck on your journey bro 🙏🏽

I'm sorry this happened to you. I know things are tough right now, I really hope they get better. The world needs more people like you. Even though your parents were horrible to you, and you never had an easy life, you are still a great person, and your videos are amazing.

Dude, it seems eerily similar to an ultra conservative Christian upbringing although we were provided basic necessities and were told to be great full for those. Girls were expected to care for the small children, cook and clean from about eight. We had to have an impeccable appearance and seem like the Brady brunch at school and religious functions. Marriage was ‘our choice’, but our father had final say and chose the man for courtship. I think it’s summed up beautifully by this thing we all did called blanket training. As soon as a baby was old enough to sit up you put them on a blanket and put their favorite toy just out of reach. You then very happily encouraged the child to get the toy and then spank them when they do and say ‘don’t leave the blanket.’ 😢 Siblings are encouraged to take part in the abuse becoming abusers themselves. It’s all about power and appearances and setting expectations very, very young. When you do finally get out you realize just how fucked it really was.

Modern States has online classes to get free CLEP vouchers. If you use REA books to study for them, you will pass any of them. A lot of colleges let you take a ton of CLEP exams for credit; usually 30-100 credits. There are some that are 100 level if you need those too. Also, look into government pell grants. They are around $7,000 and don't get paid back.

Can you go into more detail about CLEP I've never heard about it.
Is it like a discounted online class program?
I applied for grants and will look into more scholarships hopefully I get some soon

@@trynamakegainz It's similar to AP because it's offered through College Board. They are exams you take, and your college will give you credit for the class. My college offered up to 38 credits through CLEP exams, and I took that many. For example, I took microeconomics, macroeconomics, psychology, sociology, financial accounting, US history 1 and 2, etc. Your college would have a list of the ones they accept and how many credits they give. Usually you need a 50 on the exam, which is around 63% correct answers. I used Khan Academy, Crash Course, and bought the REA books to study for the exams. It's really beneficial if you speak a world language because you can get up to 12 credits just in one exam. I hope that helps!

Each college decides which ones they accept, but most state schools accept a lot. I have heard of people taking almost enough to get a bachelor's. The College Board site gives a list of all the exams, and your college should have a list of the one's they accept. The exams are normally $90, but if you answer the Modern States questions (free), they give a free voucher to take the exam.
You can take the CLEP exam anywhere-including at home (proctored).
