    I diagnosed last December for the first weeks I thought great things all make sense now...but since then I have been an emotional wreck getting my head around it.

    Thanks you, Jenny, for telling your story. I was diagnosed a year ago today and am still adjusting to my newfound self knowledge and living as the "real me". Your story is very similar to mine. As I'm in my early 60s now I had quite a bit of grieving to do about the life I didn't get when I was younger and the adult milestones I never reached. However, I was very happy to receive my diagnosis as it gave me the explanation for why I struggled so hard throughout my life and I can now live the remainder of my life with greater self acceptance. Embrace your diagnosis and may you thrive as a wonderful autistic young woman.

      Thank you for watching and listening! Congratulations on your diagnosis! I can definitely relate to still adjusting to living like the real you. Gosh yes I can imagine it must be even harder to get a diagnosis at an older age, as like you say you do have to grieve for the life you missed out on when you didn't have the diagnosis. I'm glad you were happy to receive your diagnosis though and that it's helped to explain your struggles. Thank you - I'm definitely trying to embrace my diagnosis (easier said than done at times!) as hopefully it can only be a positive thing having that knowledge xx

    Thank you for sharing! I have a provisional diagnosis of ASD from pain management programme in Bath. But my GP refused to refer me as he didn't agree. This was in 2014. You have inspired me to start advocating for myself again aswas diagnosed with hEDS late last year but still struggling with sensory overload, and social skills! Thank you! Xxx

    Thank you for talking about this... I wish there would be even more studies and more awareness about the connection between EDS/HSD and ASD/ADHD. Because it seems to me that the majority of people I know who have EDS/HSD of some sort also ended up diagnosed with ASD/ADHD (but it's not so extremely frequent the other way around). I also want to add that I'm really happy for you that you seem to have a great psychiatrist who seems really informed/educated about these topics, that is really rare (or at least rare in my country).

    • @JennyCole1988
      @JennyCole1988  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for watching! Yes it would be good to see more research about the connection, as it could help people get a diagnosis a lot earlier, which is always a good thing. I think my psychiatrist must have done a course or something, as I’d been seeing her for years and nothing had ever been mentioned. Then I had this appointment and it all came out! So hopefully it means more psychiatrists are gradually finding out about Autism in women 🤞🏻 xx

    Hi Jenny, new sub from scotland here :). im 27, and ive been waiting for 3 years for my autism and adhd assessment. ive always struggled with my mental health and have always been incredibly bendy, accumulating strange injuries along my way. ive been treated for anxiety and depression since i was 17. i also experienced psychosis around 17 years old. i have undiagnosed dyscalculia and dermatillomania too. now it turns out i have EDS, and my doctor says it also seems like i have IBS and perhaps raynauds now too. its a wild experience.

      im sorry you also spent so long not knowing. we deserve better.

      Hi! Thank you so much for subscribing! I'm so sorry you've been waiting so long for your assessment (although sadly not surprised, as I waited a similar amount of time and know a lot of other people have too). I hope you haven't found all your new diagnoses too overwhelming. I know you we can have mixed feelings about getting these things diagnosed. I just hope it's opening up access to better support for you. I hope you manage to get seen for your assessment soon so you can get a definitive answer xx

    Hello sweetie, I’ve been watching this vlog for the third time in a row now…Your story sounds awfully familiar! I recognize so much of myself… I am going investigate further. Really helpful video thanks Jenny. I have known I’m adhd for 5 or so years and it instantly made sense. Like you I don’t think I’m autistic but I need to go for a second opinion because I just kind of lied during the 6 hour assessment. I related a lot to what you had to say. Ps soon 36.
    Also made me think I’ll do more talking head videos without fear of it needing a lot of visual stuff or me painting etc

      Thank you, I’m glad you found it helpful. That’s good that you’ve been able to recognise your ADHD - it’s great when everything just makes sense isn’t it! I hope you can get a second opinion and get the answers you need xx

      @@JennyCole1988 yes just the length it needs to be; hope you’re enjoying the process :) starting to wonder if I may be autistic after sensory overload this week and struggling with writing the pip form. Still worry people knowing but it’s the truth, I create the videos for fun flexible as a schedule made me unwell again, i paint when it’s helpful , many weeks off fitness though it helps; questioning if to cancel that and really crashed this week (video im filming goes a little into it but not too detailed) shall write you a letter soon :)

    I am just realizing I'm autistic at 32. My autistic therapist agrees, but the wait list for the formal evaluation takes forever.

    • @JennyCole1988
      @JennyCole1988  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s great that you’ve been able to identify that you think you’re autistic and have the support of your therapist. I really sympathise with having to wait so long to get a formal diagnosis. The waiting times are so long - it’s incredibly frustrating. I hope your appointment comes through as soon as possible so you can get some proper answers xx

      @@JennyCole1988 Since this comment, I've actually somehow been able to get an accepted referral and had phase 1 of the assessment. Phase 2 is in a month. The specialist thinks it's a combination of autism, ADHD, OCD and depression/anxiety.

    welcome to the autistic community. one of the most helpful things i heard early in my self discovery journey is that we are not broken neurotypicals, we are whole autistics. there are wonderful resources for us here on you tube. Yo Samdy Sam is terrific if you are looking for a place to start. ❤
