Such a refreshing list of books - so many that I hadn't even heard of. Looking forward to following your reading in 2019

I thought that you might like to know what a positive influence you have had on my reading. Because of my anxiety there is lots of things that I cannot read about. I have been stuck in the psychological thriller genre for a long time because that is safe for me. I have watched your channel for around two years now and have never had much interest in historical fiction but watched your reviews anyway. I recently read life after life purely because I found it in the library and it felt so familiar because you had spoken about it so much. Although I know it was a book that you didn’t enjoy I am currently reading the forgotten garden. (I am enjoying it, sorry!) So, basically I want to thank you for pushing me out of my comfort zone. If it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t have picked up these books. I looked up what other books Daphne Du Maurier had written which I may have never heard of, I came across one called House Strand that sounds great. I think that my favourite book of last year had to be The Woman In The Window by A.J.Finn.

Gosh Tina, I have no idea how you only stuck to psychological thrillers with anxiety! I have it also and find nothing makes it more worse than a thriller! It makes my nerves sit on edge!
It's good to see you now feel safe branching out.

Tina Conn I am so glad that you mentioned how anxiety keeps you from reading certain things because I'm right there with you. Because of anxiety and PTSD I cannot read anything related to sexual assault and violence in general. I have to be super choosy on what books in the psychological thriller genre that I am able to read. Thank you for being brave enough to mention your anxiety. :)

Tina, this comment meant so much to me. I hope that the books you're picking up out of your comfort zone become comfort reads to you. Sending you a big hug.

What an eclectic list... I loved Eleanor and think about her often! You read so many excellent back list books! I have had Tangerine on my shelf and haven’t read it. It’s partly do to the cover!! Life after life is amazing... Atkinson doesn’t write any bad books- it’s amazing!!

I have mentioned before what my fave book in 2018 was (The Nightingale) so I will mention what other book was tied with it is Rebecca. I give you the credit for me reading this book. I would have never read it if not for you introducing it to your audience this is why you are one of the top booktubers that I watch faithfully. Thanks for sharing your top 10 of 2018.

I already had Tangerine on my TBR but I wasn't that excited about it. Now that you say it's gothic I really really need to read it!
I am currently reading Rebecca and I'm loving it sooo much!!

My favorite was Barkskins by Annie Proulx, but closely followed by I Am, I Am, I Am by Maggie O’Farrell. Also, Educated was fantastic. Your choices were great as well.

I just picked up Life After Life from the library yesterday on your recommendation! I have a few other books to finish first, but I can't wait to dive in! My favorite book of 2018 was Landline by Rainbow Rowell, I loved it so much! I'd love for you to read it and hear your opinion😊

Aw, I was so disappointed by Landline. :( It was so repetitive, and the characters were largely unlikeable. It's amazing how people's opinions about books can differ so much.

Hi April, have you read Behind The Scenes At The Museum by Kate Atkinson? This is my favourite modern book of all time. I actually gasped out loud when I first read it. There is such a twist. It is also set in my home city of York which made it very relevant to me, but I'm sure you would enjoy it.

I am reading Life after Life after hearing you rave about it and I’m enjoying it. I tried to start it on audio but it was a little confusing with all the different scenarios so I went to my print copy and started over and now I’m hooked! Thanks for the recommendation!

I listened to the audiobook of Life After Life this year. It's fantastic. The narrator, Fenella Woolgar is amazing. I'm keen to listen to the audio of the sequel. Life After Life was one of my favourite reads of 2018 too. Those scenes during the Blitz are incredible. I didn't like some of the German story line so much, which tempered my enthusiasm somewhat.

@@bookishfairygodmotherIs it that you've read enough poorly executed love stories to turn you off to them altogether, or do you find any subject except romantic love more worthy material to be written about?
