Interesting that it ranks lower than the outdated Nissan Rogue. Which raises the question. Which one of these is a worse reliability risk - a 3 cylinder turbocharged engine in the Ford or a CVT in the Nissan?

    I almost bought a 2019 until I drove the new 2020 model
All I can say is everyone putting it down has Not driven one yet because it rides smooth is fast and it rides quite too
Plus I’m getting 29 mpg and mine is only 2 weeks old
Gets better mpg than my piece of junk 2015 Toyota Corolla I traded in cause of all the issues it had

Forgot to mention all the safety features it comes with: blind spot detection, Lane correction, Large back up camera screen engine auto shut off “yeah this is dumb” front and rear crash avoidance, Nice stereo with Sirius radio etc all comes with the se model standard

I bought the 2020 SE Sport Hybrid, which is getting even better reviews than the other trims. Generally quiet, comfortable; loads of safety features. I like the rotary dial transmission selector; love the big info screen and entertainment with Sync3. The drive modes are interesting. The Sport mode is awesome. My MPG is overall 40mpg; at times I’ve gotten over 50!

@@edlawrence6553 I would be interested in this model, but sadly here in Canada you can only get the hybrid in the Titanium trim. I don't know why Ford has done that, because the SE hybrid would be a popular vehicle here with our higher gas prices. Overall, the new Escape seems OK. I saw a couple yesterday on the road and in a parking lot and honestly they look pretty good. In person they look larger than in the video reviews.

    • @edlawrence6553
      @edlawrence6553 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

John Tapscott people at stores have come up to me and asked, “What is that? Look sharp!”
I don’t understand marketing only the Titanium in Canada. My wife didn’t want a sunroof or the auto tailgate opener. She said it costs too much; more to break. I didn’t care about adaptive cruise control. We saved $6k.
Normally, I don’t care about color, but we got the green. Looks awesome always; sometimes look blue!

I have a 2020 Ford Escape SE in black for almost a year and a half. When I test drove it and the drive was very smooth and quiet. I didn’t know the buttons and even the modern technology in it. It took me a couple of weeks to get used to it. Even when I was shopping and I had to think a newer black Ford Escape. Before in getting it that I used to drive a 2015 Ford Escape SE in silver grey. It had a smaller screen for backup camera. That older Escape didn’t took me a long time on it except for the sized of it just after driving my father’s 2008 Ford Expedition for 3 months. I learned very quickly on using Apple Car Play. I wasn’t so sure till the following day. I even felt liked driving a Porsche SUV.

I can't understand why Ford only offers the same cheap looking door panels across all of the various trim levels on the Escape. They look like they should be on the inside of a packing crate, and they even went so far as to swap out the soft touch panels for hard plastic panels in the rear. When you think about just how much visual and tactile real estate the four door panels occupy on a vehicle's interior, and the fact that the entry level model with the three cylinder engine gets the exact same treatment as a turbo in the top level Titanium trim, you have to wonder what they were thinking. Ford has been letting the Bean Counters win out over the Designers for decades. The Santa Fe Ultimate's interior makes the Escapes look like a taxi by comparison.

Yes you can only cut costs so far then people start to notice. If it ain't broke then don't "fix" it! A certain minimum standard is expected now with so much competition around.

The Ford Escape is dead. Long live the Focus XL. Because that's all
this new vehicle is. The "crossover" that crossed back over.
I own a 2017 Escape (last generation that is an actual SUV). I checked
out a 2020 Focus XL (Escape) yesterday. This thing is a car. A raised
hatchback. As far as I'm concerned, it does not compete with the Rav4,
CR-V, CX-5, etc. anymore. Those are proper looking SUVs, with the
appropriate ride height and compact SUV looks. This thing sits too low.
And could they have made it any more generic looking? I've seen
reviewers fawning over the new "styling." What styling? I dare you to
show me any major differences in exterior styling from the previous
Focus. And as far as interior styling, could they have gone any
plainer? With the exception of the silly-ass tablet sticking out from
the dash (an automotive trend that needs to die right now) and the
rotary shifter, this is a very bland looking interior.
My 2017 Escape has rear seats that actually fold flat with the cargo
area. (You know...like an SUV?) This new dud does have improved rear
seat legroom, I'll give it that. But the rear seats don't fold flat,
giving you an annoying ramped floor for your cargo to shift around on.
The only saving grace may be the new hybrid powertrain. Ford EcoBoost
engines have rarely ever met their EPA ratings for mileage in real world
driving. (I get around 23 mpg at 75mph interstate driving from my 2.0
EcoBoost.) It remains to be seen whether the new 8 speed will improve
things in the real world. Maybe the new 3-cylinder gets good mileage,
but I'll never know, because a 3-cylinder with cylinder deactivation is
only appropriate for garden tractors in my book. If I'm paying $30k +
for a vehicle, it's going to have an appropriate powertrain. Either the
hybrid 2.5 system or the 2.0 EcoBoost.
Hopefully the new "baby Bronco" (Bronco Sport, I hear?) will be largely
based on the Escape platform and give us back a true compact SUV option
from Ford. Because it's quite obvious from this new Focus XL that Ford
is definitely still building a car.

I have just spent several months in Europe. Whilst there I observed so many makes and models of SUV we don't have in North America. Whilst this new model of the Escape may have many new technical feature and advances which make it superior to it's predecessor, it takes styling cues from models being retired by newer styles. I see this escape style as past its sell by date before it's even introduced. I had hoped this would replace my 2012 escape... Not going to happen!.

Good solid review. If this model is so important to Ford they need to think harder. Door trims look recycled-cheap. The seats look cheap & will wear easily, materials quality look cheap all over. I've converted to Fords with a 2016 TitaniumX Kuga (Uk) and see older model quality looks better on all levels. Lowered ride height suspension not so good for UK, if anything should have left this or increased height. More seats up space Good and movable rear seats Good but no protective hard plastic at the back of front seats? Other negatives, less air vents+ controls are low, still cheap looking blue clock hands, sync3 screen no longer inset and protected from direct sunlight heat, guage cluster more clutterred. For size and space it would have been better to match to the Nissan Rogue (X-Trail in UK). I dont know if Fords have this now but should consider these standard on all cars. 1. LED headlights OR on lower models projectors as standard that can accommodate aftermarket LED bulbs.. just phase out reflector headlights now 2. Always live Front and Rear parking sensors or 3. Rear and Front parking cameras 4. Provision all models for an Easy fit front and rear dashcam system with user preset off delay timer. 5. Lower light setting for dash clocks for night driving eg night mode 6. Better kit option for tyre replacement eg decent breaker bar and decent quality socket with dedicated box for lugnut/ wheelnut key.

I subscribed to Consumer Reports (CU) a few months ago. I test drove three Escapes and had my wife test drove models twice. When the CU report came out I was so disappointed. Not in the car, but in the report. I consider it a hatchet job. The author, in my opinion, has something against Ford or American cars. For instance, read their Subaru reviews and note how they excuse Subaru for everything. Full disclosure: Our other car is a Subaru. We like it. But, the CU love for Subaru and Honda is over the top.
We chose the Escape SE Sport Hybrid over the CR-V and Subaru Forester. The Forester had been my initial choice,
