  • I love anime. That is what inspired this video, I just love anime. I love the history of anime. I grew up in the 90s where I watched Pokemon every weekend, watched Digimon, CCS. I saw anime go into the 2000s and saw the animation get cleaner and move in ways that blew my mind. Now in the 2010s I've seen anime reach even greater heights in both it's animation, story-telling and fans. But I look back and I see where it started on TV, where anime began to walk, that was with Astro Boy, Gegege no Kitaro, Speed Racer and few others. They were rough, simple, but incredibly charming. 70s was full of new technology and defying all odds, 80s was full of flight and adventures in places never reached before. I love anime, I love its history and it's just a medium that is simply, well...Timeless.
note - fun fact the picture in the credits is my anime collection.

Okay, I shamelessly cried through most of this and walked out of the masquerade crying - met with some friends, still crying, and went to say bye to some of the masquerade staff - and one of the hosts had to hug me because I just could not stop crying. (Gatchaman was where I lost it - at the masquerade I mistakenly remembered it as Jun but now that I watch it again I realize she's not there lol). This is an exquisite and just breathtaking homage to a medium that defies genre, language and time. You went above and beyond the "retro" theme to encompass a timeline of stories that have meant so much to so many people over the years. Thank you. Your wins were so well deserved, and you were certainly a highlight of my Anime Boston.

okay multiple things i'd like to address.
      1.) you're awesome.
2.) you've seen/know the old gatchaman which makes you x2 awesome in my book.
QwQ I cried as well. I didn't know I was going to get these awards. So when everything came up I was crying up in the balcony at AB with my friend and boyfriend hugging me as I just heard people cheer for their favorite shows. The highlight of my con wasn't the awards. It was fans of anime like you and many others who seen shows in various ages or just in one age. You guys highlighted my Anime Boston by just enjoying my vid.

Hahaha - thank you! I mean, I wasn't born in the 70s, but I enjoy old Tatsunoko anime very much. (I believe there would be no Team Rocket were it not for all the Time Bokan series!!)
Part of what made it so magic was sitting in the audience cheering over and over as each beloved title came up. You could hear where 'your crowd' was. So many stories were represented and right there in real time we all reacted to them. I could not have asked for a better experience at the masquerade - for us all to be engaged right there cheering for what we loved - all thanks to your amv. Thank you.

Maggie Grace same, the moment was absolutely magical and i don’t think i’ll ever forget it. soul eater i think was what pushed me over the brink into sobbing as it’s very sentimental to me and an all-time favorite. if it weren’t for soul eater, i wouldn’t have met my best friend who i watched this amv with during the ab masquerade when it won, and if weren’t for him i might not even be alive today so. it meant sooo much to me. just such a powerful moment

As someone who wrote a research paper on the history of anime this blew my mind. You got all the major ones including the mothership Astro Boy to the 90s favorites (ah CLAMP how I adore you so) to the current ones! I could literally count the time eras yet the way it's edited made it so the different art styles did not clash at all. Well done. (I'm now wishing I could've put this in my powerpoint.)

    • @mewpudding138
      @mewpudding138  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

LeafianAvenger oooo a research paper up my alley. Indeed, I was worried about art styles but that's what anime is, just different styles, stories, emotions, etc. :) I'm happy how the video turned out.

I saw this as it was announced for Best In Show at Sakura-con 2017, I remember holding back tears as I was watching outside the doors on my tip-toes.
Glad I'm home now so I can cry all I want.
I lost it in the 90s. Card Captors, Pokemon, Hamtaro, InuYasha...

  • @18wolfspirit

Pokemon, Yugioh, Cardcaptor Sakura, , Sailor Moon, Gash Bell, these were my introductions to anime before I even knew what anime was. So many more shows to watch from the past and in the current era.
People say anime reaches for the sky. But that implies it has a limit.

After hearing of Avicii's passing this morning, I knew I had to dig this gem of an AMV up in honor of him. I saw your video at the AX'17 closing ceremonies for the first time, and I remember the amazing crowd reactions to everyone's favorite shows, including the chills I got from experiencing that moment. Just want to say thank you for making such an amazing AMV. Avicii's music has impacted me in such a positive way over the years, and I'm really happy with how you put it all together here. Looking back, this is a pretty awesome way to remember/pay tribute to him.

This made me cry, it was wonderful. I was born in the early 80s but I didn't really start watching anime until the mid 90s when my the boyfriend/best friend introduced me to Ranma 1/2 and Tenchi Muyo. We'd spend most of our dates watching anime. This brings back a lot of wonderful memories.

Ahh, anime...literally ANY type of story you can tell can be expressed through animation, sometimes nailing you right in the feels like Angel Beats or Clannad After Story did for me. Sometimes hopeful or sometimes despairing, and many times a silly, fun mirror held up to every day life like Azumanga Daioh or Nichijou. Worlds where men can fall in love with goddesses, or suddenly find your house filled with half-animal demihumans who are ALL chasing after you, a la Monster Musume. Keep it up, Japan.

I voted the shit out of this video at AB2017 this past weekend, I was watching eagerly to see if it had won, in the Other category in which it was placed, during the Masquerade and was initially incensed when it didn't. And then three awards blazed across the screen without a video playing between.
I'm so happy for you, you did an amazing job and this video embodies how I find myself thinking about a lot of things lately: looking back at the history; how far we've come.
    Thank you for making this.

      @Shagrazir 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Not to dote too much :P
But my friend and I just turned to each other during the show and said "Well that's getting best editing." --I loved all the transitions, they felt so natural: The Baccano to Death Note transition, the jet stream into Attack on Titan transition, completely ignoring all the film reel portions! the funny ones Azumanga > PoT, Keijo > Free...ugh I could go on, but I'll stop; you know, you made it. xD

This was my personal favorite that I selected at this year's competition at Anime Expo last night. It not only provided nostalgia of old school anime, but how much they transcended time when you look back on any of these titles. The choice of song also provided a splendid accompaniment. Gives the feeling we've traveled through various universes and encountered these unique characters that shaped our childhood, teen, and even adulthood.
THIS should have been the TRUE opening ceremony video last year of AX's 25th anniversary, but then again it wouldn't make sense entirely because some of these shows came out before 1991 (the year AX began). Anyway, you have my utmost gratitude on your edits (all coming from a fellow AMV editor). Loved it.

We had a little anime event in small-town Japan a few years back and I ran a mini AMV showcase and showed them this. Seeing the delight in the eyes of Japanese of all ages really confirmed to me just how universal and Timeless this really is. (Though a few people were confused about some of the anime that was popular overseas but not in Japan, like Samurai Pizza Cats).
That said part of me wants more in ~3 years. ;)

I showed this to my mom a while ago and she got really excited about Gigantor cause she hadn't seen anything about it since she was a little kid. So thanks for that moment of simple happiness it gave her.
Also congrats on the engagement. I was in the audience this year. That proposal was really cool.

Great video! Very nostalgic. Found so many series I have watched as a kid, a teenager, an adult... until now. It is amazing how the times have changed, how animation got fantastic and how special effects allowed to change the way magic, speed, power, emotions and more is shown in anime.
    You captured that really good.
Just like you I was hooked on to anime before I even knew what that was, witnessed all these changes, and now I thank you for the lovely reminder of times passed and more to come.

Thank you for making Astro Boy first.
Gosh, I just almost got teary when I first saw him.
I don't remember any of the scenes or episodes anymore, but I can still remember how it makes me feel.
The Rose of Versailles, Yu Yu Hakusho, Dragon Ball, Ranma 1/2, Hello Kitty, Sailor Moon (obviously), Magic Knight Rayearth, Fushigi Yuugi, Trigun, Cardcaptor Sakura, Hunter X Hunter, Case Closed, Rurouni Kenshin, Inuyasha, Fruit Basket (I can't believe you actually included this! Nobody in my country ever talks about this great anime), Naruto, Code Geass.
Those are the list of anime that I enjoyed the most and I truly, really appreciate your efforts in making this video.
I stopped watching anime after being disappointed with Nabari No Ou anime ending and realised that studios are pushing the anime forward before the manga finished so the anime doesn't have the same story depth with the manga.
I also stopped watching anime after I found the pattern of their voice rythhm because I was bored of listening to it.
But I still update on what anime is hyped so I know some of the most recent ones.
Anyways, forgive my blabbering and thank you.
It was a really great journey and I can say that even though the quality of anime isn't the same as it was, I can still appreciate the fact that it makes my childhood worth living.
I wouldn't have love colors and expressions without anime.
    Again, thank you.
