That's totally normal for learning any language. In Spanish it's "bien, y tu", and I'm sure french is "cava, te" (or something, I only know bits and pieces of french and definitely can't spell it). The only reason no one talks exactly like that as a native speaker is because we usually have more complicated things to say to each other so we skip the polite greeting stage. it's perfectly reasonable if you're just superficially talking to someone.

One thing people have to realize is that different province of China is actually in competition with each other, they want to attract young talents to settle there to start family and also business to invest there and create jobs, Inner Mongolia was not known to be an ideal investment location because it is far from the coast or major transit hubs, Ordos is a coal town so they were loaded with money, but they know that the coal is not going to last, so they build up new city in an effort to attract people and new type of investment there. Pretty much the same thing Dubai has been trying to do with their oil money.

I am surprised that you have changed your view of China after living in Japan for so long. Japan’s anti-China propaganda is very terrifying. Describe China as hell. And you said that what you think of Chinese people abroad is bad, so how do you know they are not Southeast Asians? Not Vietnamese? How do you immediately identify someone who is Chinese? Do you immediately understand China’s thousands of dialects and dozens of ethnic languages and instantly identify these as Chinese? It’s just that after being promoted like this by the media, you subconsciously believe that the people who did this are Chinese. This is what Japanese and American media have always done. Come to China more often. . . .

This is normal. We are used to it. The media controlled by the United States and the West and anti-China media often use some pictures and videos. Even in many videos, they are not Chinese. Then they dub what happened here and there. There are Chinese people rioting there. The Communist Party is suppressing. Many times, some sporadic things are raised to the level of overthrowing the Communist Party. For example, many ordinary people protested against the high charges of property companies. Then foreign self-media can use some anti-China self-media to dub it into overthrowing the Communist Party and the Chinese government.

That means the time you traveled there was a quieter season with fewer people. When the busy season arrives( in that shopping centre), it might be fully packed. Also, many of these businesses take orders online, and the majority of their customers in Inner Mongolia come from Russia or Eastern Europe. People there rarely see someone like you in this small city( by comparing all cities around China) which is why they’re so curious. It's actually real and spoken British English:
      Q: How are you?
A: I'm fine, thank you - and you?
... At no time should you actually tell the person how you really are... That would be weird. That question would be 'How have you been' which is an actual inquiry asking about your personal circumstances, but depending on the relationship to the person asking, it might be considered out of place to actually provide a lengthy answer.
The more formal version would be asking and then answering with exactly the same formula, which takes out answering completely, which might make less sense for non-nativs speakers, or those having not grown up with it:
      Q/A: How do you do?
Nothing wrong with that, not sure what the problem is. Maybe your textbooks are weird.

Western culture and politics emphasize democracy and freedom, while Chinese culture values peace and harmony (with other people and nature). The concept of freedom was introduced to China after the French Revolution. However, the Chinese believe that without peace, freedom cannot exist. This is why Chinese culture does not emphasize individualism as much but instead prioritize collective interests and tend to restrain individual freedom for the sake of peaceful and harmony society.
Western societies often direct various accusations toward Chinese communism, but in reality, many of these criticisms are rooted in misunderstandings or conflations with Chinese culture.

Why are there homeless people? Why is there no homeless person in China? I think there are several aspects that need to be understood.
    1. Drugs. Many people become homeless because they use drugs, which is the most common in Western countries. The Chinese government regards drug control as a very important policy. Because in modern history, China was devastated by drugs, and opium made China a weak country. Therefore, the Chinese government does not want to repeat the same mistake. A very simple example is that if you are found to have more than 50G of drugs on your body, you may be sentenced to death.
    2. Poverty. Many homeless people around the world are homeless because of this reason. However, Chinese society is an agricultural civilization, and self-sufficiency is a clear characteristic of agricultural civilization. And Chinese people are one of the most obedient races, as long as they can eat enough, they will not do anything rebellious. At the beginning of China's development, many rural people would go to cities to seek opportunities, but cities could not accommodate everyone, so there were indeed homeless people at that time. However, when many people recognize reality, they will go back to their hometowns to continue farming or doing some small handicrafts to support themselves, after all, the cost of living in rural areas is much lower than in cities.
    3. Laziness. Laziness is an important factor leading to poverty, but Chinese people are renowned worldwide for their diligence. If a beggar with sound limbs looks under 50 years old, then no one will give you a penny. Because in the eyes of Chinese people, when such a young person goes begging everywhere, it is caused by laziness, not for any other reason. Therefore, they will only look down upon and not help.
    4. Family. Chinese family culture is deeply rooted, and this family is not just about your parents and children, but also includes your uncles, aunts, and so on. When a homeless person appears in a family, it is something that embarrasses the entire family. So, once such a thing happens, family members will find him, take him home, and provide some help.
    5. Government. In Western countries, the government does not care if you are a homeless person because they believe you have the "right" to be a homeless person, so they will not provide any assistance to the homeless person. In China, because there is no drug problem, the only possibility of becoming a homeless person is poverty. The Chinese government has used many methods to help the poor, including providing job positions, providing all agricultural materials, and even helping them build houses. This is also a very important reason why there are no homeless people in China.

One more thing to add: taxes! In China, farmers and people with a monthly income of less than 5000 yuan are exempt from taxes. Purchasing a house only requires paying one tax, which is about 1% of the purchase price. Then the house belongs to you and will be given to your children when you get old! So, most people in China basically don't need to pay any taxes!

Chinese people are very kind and nice but some of them could be poor mannered, and given the population of China is huge, so the sheer number of poorly mannered Chinese people can be seemly large, and when those poor mannered ones travel abroad, can be obvious and tarnishing the Chinese ppl reputation as a whole. Also, Japan and western countries like to focus on or even exaggerate the negative side of China and Chinese ppl. So it’s a combination of multiple things contributing to the “bad rep”

It's kind of like Shenzhen but its entirely built by the state and will be called a "smart city" that'll experiment with these new socialist/communist ideas which they hope to experiment with. It's like the Soviet Union except with much more higher technology. If it succeeds the entire model will become the next phase of China's economic story which will be the post state capitalist era. Less driven by market forces and more about advancing human social relations. This society could also then become the model for the entire world to emulate eventually. It sounds radical and utopian but when you understand you have a true Communist believer in Xi Jinping then you'll realise he is deadly serious about making this work.

What you, Connor, should understand is that China builds for the future, not for the present. They anticipate the need in 20-30 years. Thats why these cities are built so huge and not yet crowded. It will be when they slowly move people out of shacks, yurts and mud huts with no running water and electricity. This is how China does poverty alleviation and improve the lives of their people.

Weather damage, leaks, mold, rats, cockroaches… You’ve gotta be kidding me.

Ordos was once called a "ghost town". In fact, the people in this city are too rich. The per capita GDP is RMB 270,000 ( =$33,000), ranking first in China, richer than Shanghai (Shanghai's per capita GDP is $23,000). Ordos' cashmere product output accounts for one-third of China's and one-quarter of the world's. Ordos is extremely rich in mineral resources. The proven coal reserves here are as high as 149.6 billion tons, accounting for one-sixth of China, and the proven natural gas reserves are 800 billion cubic meters, accounting for one-third of China. As a resource-based city, Ordos has a single industrial structure and is overly dependent on resources. In recent years, Ordos' economy has begun to transform into photovoltaics, automobiles, cloud computing, graphene and other fields, laying a solid foundation for the future development of Ordos.

@@fleetingfacet People have been wondering why the real estate market in Ordos has not completely collapsed, or why the local real estate market can still recover? In fact, it is because the real estate crisis experienced by the local area is different from that in other places.
Ordos has coal, which has brought huge wealth to the local area. According to data from 2011, there are more than 7,000 people with assets of over 100 million yuan, and at least 100,000 people with assets of 10 million yuan.
First, they made money through coal, and then began to invest money in the real estate field. In the process of land acquisition and demolition, because of the huge compensation, a group of wealthy people who mainly own houses were born. At that time, even the street sweepers had two or three houses.
Although they were rich, the local industrial structure was single, and a large amount of hot money poured into the real estate field, which further pushed up the real estate fever.
Since then, due to the outbreak of the private lending storm, the local housing prices have also fallen from about 10,000 yuan to about 3,000 yuan, some projects have been left unfinished, and the assets of people who have houses have also shrunk.
Even so, there was no large-scale selling of houses after the local housing prices fell. That is to say, although the value of the house has shrunk, everything happened internally from the initial investment to the later stage. For example, some local coal bosses must have invested in real estate, and the high or low housing prices themselves do not constitute a real impact on their industry. Another example is that many local people who became rich through demolition did not have money in the first place, and the rise and fall of housing prices did not seem to have much actual impact on them. That is to say, when the crisis occurred later, since the money invested in real estate did not come from outside, even if it collapsed, they would still have to cover the bottom themselves.
Moreover, the local coal industry is still there. As long as the government and individuals can continue to make money from coal, even if the value of the houses they built shrinks, it will not be greatly affected. This is like a process of putting money from the left pocket to the right pocket, and the whole process is an internal cycle.
      Conclusion
In the first half of 2022, Ordos' GDP exceeded 250 billion yuan. The label of ghost town has gradually faded, and the number of tourists received here in 2021 has further increased to 4.1 million. The income from tourism alone has reached about 1.3 billion yuan. In addition, Ordos has also introduced new industries such as automobiles, high-tech materials, and optoelectronic projects in recent years. More than 100,000 cars, more than 10,000 new energy vehicles, and 65 million mobile phone screens are produced here each year. The local housing prices have returned to more than 10,000 yuan.

@@PanditaP It's absolutely possible, and you can live quite comfortably. I know why you are surprised, because things in the West are relatively more expensive. For example, I live in Germany, which is already a relatively cheap place in the West, but it is still 13 to 14 times more expensive than the most expensive places in China, such as Shanghai and Beijing.

😂Maybe it’s because you’re 9 years old and so adorable. You're really lucky. The people you've met in China are all warm - hearted and hospitable. In fact, there are also quite a few indifferent or even bad people in China. But I believe, just like in the US or the other countries around the world, the majority of people on this planet are very nice. Smile at them, and they'll smile back. Hope people all over the world can unite, talk to each other, enhance mutual understanding, we cloud be friends!
