ELO's Twilight

- From The Electric Light Orchestra's 1981 concept album, Time this is the opening track (including 'Prologue'). I loved this track and must have played it a 100 times continuously when I first got the album as a spotty 16 year old back then.
This is the first time I've done a non-instrumental from ELO and apart from the quick piano solo in the middle there isn't a lot of playing to impress, just a good bunch of block chords. So I've concentrated on the visual aspect this time and included several camera angles, video effects and even some wonderful stills browsed from the web and all were tagged 'Twilight hence their inclusion.
The final still is courtesy of Chris Drost and is entitled 'Blue'. More of his fabulous work can be found on www.flickr.com
Several of the stills at the start are by David Miller (www.davidmalin.....
Thanks to all whose who allowed me to use their stills. If I've missed anybody out please let me know and I'll correct the anomolum.
Thanks to Jeff Lynne for Twilight. Now bury the hatchet, get back on the road with the lads and do some REAL gigs, you idle brummy bastard!!!
Dear Mr Trappett, I am a 43-year-old Belgian citizen. A longtime fan of ELO although I was hardy born during their heyday time I love quite a number of their songs. It really makes me feel like visiting Birmingham one day. Great work on this video. I have been watching your video for a few years. :)
Beautifully played. This is inspirational. Best album. Best group. Best cover. Best rendition. And without a doubt, the best arrangement and innovation of this song. And not only "Twilight" but "Prologue" too! What would one be without the other?
I regularly play songs thousands of times on Repeat 1, for weeks on end. This song was one of them
Thank you so much for putting the chords on here so I can have a go on the keys myself. I can read music but can’t sight read onto piano can only really do guitar!!! Pretty hopeless all round so it’s great when I get a healing hand from someone who knows what they’re doing.
Great Elo track and so glad you included the prologue as it sounds incomplete without
I also loved this song, and I got the general idea that the album was a science-fiction concept work later. But from the beginning, "Twilight" always struck me as epic theme music! Can't you imagine this as the theme for endless science fiction movies? The good guys sweeping in to deal with evil, decisively and effectively!
Well there is Daicon IV ... but EVERYONE gets swept in that one.
With people like you in this world doing fantastic covers, great music like this will always carry on. Thankyou
Your ELO videos are without question some of the best on TH-cam Paul. I keep coming back for a fix! Thankyou.

Outstanding!!! You have a new fan in Seattle...and ELO continues to have an old one!! More---
Great job! when this album was released in 1981 I listened to it over and over and over and over and over and over. This was the best song (both actually) on the album which is saying a lot since each song was gold in m opinion - sort of a concept album I was hoping they'd make a movie a la Pink Floyd the Wall.
ポールのテクニックは最高だよ、何度も何度も聴いてる。

Seriously I didn't know my dw8k could sound this good. really sounds better than what I've been getting out of it.
Damn it! You hook me into singing along with your instrumental every time I watch this video! Now I have to go and watch another of your vids. And thanks for sharing your immense talent with us.
congratulations!!!!
loved it! And the chords help to play it in guitar. Thanks
Brilliant!
Well Done!! loved it!
I am a 39-year-old from Belgium and I am listening to this in 2019.
This song was the OP song to the Japanese drama Densha Otoko!
@@resurrexi Not at all. That music was first used in the presentation of the mythical Daicon IV, the greatest otaku exponent. The opening of the drama you mention is a tribute to that animation. th-cam.com/video/yDN68LxWW-8/w-d-xo.html

Vocoder is nice enhancement.
It aint arf..Watched it the other nite on the box. On a par with The Green Mile I say..Top music btw from a life long ELO fan...
Do you have the MIDI file for the drums and backing effects? I'm planning on doing a version of this on the theatre organ and would love to use the file to base it off of. Thank you!
Wade Gorman Alas, no. I program using Voyetra Classic Sequencer. Also my set-up is not standard MIDI format (Drums on Channel 10, strings prog 41 etc). It would involve a fair amount of programming to re-format this as a MIDI file and even then a lot of info would be missing (tried it before with other tunes).
Thanks, Ben. I think you should knock a vid up for your Night In The City. As for the tribute, lets just say plans a re afoot!
Those drums sound aggressive as hell.
excellent again you are a talented fella..well done
That was awesome, found myself singing to it! It was great! Your playing .....not my singing.
Very well done, I always held this album as the pinicle of ELO. Tought myself that syth riff many years ago. When I was a DJ at a local roller skating rink this was my intro, got ELO a few more sales and fans!! I also found myself singing along!
fantastic!
Solo plays around chords of Fmaj, Gmaj, Cmaj, Emin, Fmaj (in that order).
This is actually insane quality for the time it was made.
While the Minimoog was Richard's main synthesizer on earlier albums (1972 - 1978), the main keyboard used on both Prologue and Twillight was a Roland VP-330. The VP-330 was a very unusual keyboard/vocoder that had a really lush chorus-phaser built into it. In both Prologue and Twillight Richard uses the VP-330 to produce those thick, lush synth-string sounds. The VP330 is also used to convert the spoken dialogue in "Prologue" and "2095" into the robotic speech that you hear.
I actually went and signed in just to say that this is FANTASTIC!!!!!!
And you've given me the chords to go try myself
Thanks Paul, best wishes from Ireland
There should be a super thumbs up button you can press for songs like this , a normal like is just not good enough.
Nowadays the problem with so called talent shows like X Factor and Pop Idol is that they are looking for the next big 'thing' A Pretty face that sings other peoples songs. They are looking in the wrong areas It's Musicians that rock our world not faces, and you my friend are amongst the best keyboard talents out there
Translates as 'A little not closely listened to harmony. The original (harmony) is more tasty. Fm/C it is obviously wrong.',
My reply: What time reference?

No bog roll on the shelf? I'm disappointed!! Seriously though, PT, you do a great job. Got front row seats for Jeff in April. Can't wait..
Time is an amazing LP, perhaps my fave of ELOs... The synths are incredible.
very cool!!!
the vocoder sounds a bit off. however... your timing and delivery of the words is spot on. sounds REALY good to me. awsome stuff.
Great job! Even better with the chords to play along! Tjabk you so much for this!
Congratulaction mister trappett....twilight this song number one
I love the fact that Jeff Lynne finally has been inducted into the R'n'R Hall of Fame with ELO, 'cos that means that there is one more musical genius in there and because they're not all musicalgeniuses in there. Will listen to ELO until I die and perhaps even after that. Good ELO covers like here are like discovering their brilliant tunes from a new perspective which is just great.
Truly YOU ROCK!! The photos and reproduction of these ELO songs just knock me off my feet! I just don't understand why they don't play any of their stuff on the radio anymore, even on oldies stations. They had some great anthem-like and dreamy songs, terrific riffs and melodies. I used to do occasional workouts and interpretive dancing to their stuff when I was younger. Another unsung hero of ELO that I admire is that of Louis Clark. His arrangements with Lynne and Richard Tandy are SUPERB! I also enjoyed his work from the 'Hooked On' series, which I think makes a great teaching aid for anyone being introduced to classical music for the first time. I'm surprised they never received higher honors by the Queen herself, if I haven't heard anything lately of such news.
chcialem przesluchac ten kawalek, cofnac sie w czasie na chwile i prosze widze cover na klawiszach. SWIETNE !! Pozdrawiam
+Filip Gruning Dziękuję Ci
