  • Written review - uhstudio.com/posts/affinity-2.... This is an initial overview of the new features that are useful for architects and designers within the new Affinity 2 update by Serif for Photo, Designer, and Publisher.
    This is a major update by Serif that requires a new perpetual purchase for a license. Is the update worth it?

    Being a 3D Designer the DXW import is a blessing - now I can recommend it even to my interior design students

      Yes, it is quite good, indeed

    Just purchased last week and availed the discount.
    Good Software

    Thanks for the overview! I own the old versions and upgraded without a second thought. The current discount they provide is very generous too.

      Cheers! Yes, the current pricing makes it very enticing. Hopefully version 2 is around for more than 5 years as well!

    Missing of vector pattern is the only bad thing in a perfect suite. Hope they will add soon enough in future.

      Agreed, it would be great to have it!

    the layer part at affinity designer are really something

    • @UHStudio
      @UHStudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it's getting better. It's still missing some quick ways to select all objects in a layer, for example, but they have definitely improved the layers UI significantly, especially understanding when nesting an object/layer vs using as a mask.

    Why the dimension doesn't stay?

    New version seems great, but until a proper rtl support is implemented, I'll pass and keep v1.

    • @UHStudio
      @UHStudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      RTL support? Right to left? As in Arabic and Hebrew? Interesting, did not know it doesn't have that feature. Does V1 have RTL support?

    Very interesting - do you know how much we can save if we switch from the full package of photoshop to infinity? And do you think that it’s easy for people to switch?

    • @UHStudio
      @UHStudio  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you were to buy the full package at the moment, with the launch offer discount, it would be $99 for all three. This is the best pricing. If you are a full Adobe Creative cloud subscriber, it would be the less than two month's worth of adobe products, half of which no one uses. If if are a Photoshop subscriber, then tht would be the equivalent of about 5 months subscription, if the price is still $20 per month. Yes, I believe it's quite, easy, especially with Photo as it is the most similar to its Adobe equivalent - Photoshop. The current pricing is a no brainer, even if you still need to keep your photoshop around

      @@UHStudio ah cool. I’ll think I will a have closer look. I guess we will still need Adobe DC. But seeing an alternative to the mighty Adobe is very interesting. Thanks for the introduction 👍🏻

      The interface is 90% similar so it shouldn't be hard to find your way around it. There's a free trial so you can try it before you buy. I suggest you have a look at the official Affinity Photo TH-cam channel - www.youtube.com/@AffinityPhotoOfficial . It's full of easy to follow videos.

      @@oybrj Cheers! Make sure you check out the Affinity channels on youtube as they make quite good and useful tutorials.

    Can you do some videos on how you use affinity in your architecture work, there very little on the web, thanks Andy

      Definitely! It's on my long to-do list! What kind of features do you think would be useful to show the most?

  • @UHStudio
    @UHStudio  ปีที่แล้ว

    Which is your favourite new feature in Affinity 2? Which feature do you think is still missing?

    • @UHStudio
      @UHStudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      In addition to what's mentioned in the video, another missing feature is variable font support. At the moment, installing google fonts requires downloading all the separate font files for each font weight.

      Definetly dwg import, although there are issues whem updating dwg.
      Also linked Asset categorises through all affinity apps.
      And still waiting when there will be perspective measurement tool like in photoshop.

    I'm sure I'm being dim but how do you add dimension lines to your drawings? The Measure tool allows you to temporarily put a dimension line on the page but as soon as you try to put a second dimension line on the first one disappears.

    • @UHStudio
      @UHStudio  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Dimensions where in Affinity Designer?

    • @seanohaimheirgin1047
      @seanohaimheirgin1047 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@UHStudio dimension lines as annotations on the final model. Some way of marking the size of objects just like the Measure tool.. but leave the markings in place.

    One furthere Question.. but first. many thanks for the comprehensive overiview.
    Now .. my company heavily uses Photoshop for big competition entrys. in this process they usualy print plans to pdfs, that after this get imported as ! linked pdfs! to Photoshop.
    Now the graphics start.. and the Architects make the pure pdf " Nice" .... but in the process of competitions, time is a big factor, so they have to start creating the graphics, while the architecture often chhanges..
    so the Team usualy updates the pdf´s as often as the desing idea changes.
    Photoshop recognises updated pdf´s that have been overwritten by a new plot to pdf...
    and ask to actualise the pdf which will stay also updated in the right place.. Now this as i remember to a degree is possible with affinity photo too.... problem only is.. it gets imported as a vector aproach, which in many cases did cut away options for photo retouching... but converting the imported vektorfile to a pixelformat of cours did break the linkinng connection..
    This was done in photoshop better.... imported pdfs can get rasterised, but the link to the original pdf plot doesnt break...
    How does this work in Affinity with the new version?

    • @UHStudio
      @UHStudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not sure whether there is a way to link a rasterised PDF. There are options, though for pass-through reading of a PDF. That may be something like what you are doing at the moment

    The biggest thing missing for me is Linux support, otherwise amazing updates
