You can automate your common room door by putting a servo on it, found in Utilities/Wiring, and connecting to a Door Timer. You set the Door Timer by setting either the hours it should be open on the left, or using the dropdown menu on the right for the security tier it applies to, which may be "All" and which regime slots the room should be "Open." For a Common Room, it will be any slot that is for free time, which I believe includes Eat times as well. This is something you can do before you're ready to go over to having every door automated with guards stationed on door control systems, since you have to pay their wages, and your budget early game suffers from doing that too early.
