  • Cement-treated base (CTB) is a general term that applies to an mixture of native soils and/or manufactured aggregates with measured amounts of portland cement and water that is compacted and cured to form a strong, durable, frost resistant paving material.

The mix design of the CTB is based on many factors and designed by an engineer. The P-304 is an FAA specification that provides several design criteria (including the minimum 7-day compressive strength -- which is affected by cement, aggregate, and water ratios). The Soil-Cement Laboratory Handbook, published by the Portland Cement Association, can be used as a design guide/reference.
