This is my beach! Best shelling beach, period.

Hi Jersey Shore Shelling Mama! You have a great local beach to shell. I think it's a winner because it doesn't get raked like some of the larger NJ shore beaches. Thanks very much for watching, I hope you make some great finds the next time you're out - Paul

Also, did the Coast Guard ever retrieve those two channel markers or are they still there?

@@dirtsandandrocks it’s just a great spot bc all the shells bypass that inlet and go straight to dog beach. Every time I go I find so many shells and glass. Love it there.
So the markers I believe are put there by wildlife management. Last time I was there I did see 2 of the protected birds so I haven’t gone back bc I figured they were probably setting up their nests. I’m assuming by now they have come and taken down the washed up ones and put new ones up. I’ve had the best luck on that beach in early October, the water is still warm and I go out to my knees and waist and can just grab whelks right out of the water!

Is it true that black shells are probably prehistoric that have washed up from deep in the ocean?

Hi Frank Schwartz! No, I don't think that's true. I do know that shells turn darker colors after they've been buried for a while in the ocean floor, but I think the oceans are too dynamic for something to be buried long enough to be considered prehistoric. That's just my opinion though and I'm not a scientist, I'm sure there are exceptions. Thanks for watching and please check back again sometime soon - Paul
